I have an old BT GPS receiver. Just curious if using BT to connect to a GPS device would eat battery worse than the built in GPS? Also, is there a way to get Google maps to toggle GPS automatically?

Does anyone else find that their battery does best at like 60%-70% charged and when it gets below 40 it moves a lot quicker? Also I've done 3 full drain and full recharges so far and my battery has improved sloightly each time, do you reccomend I do it again or is that just bad for the battery?

A quick test shows that it renders the nytimes and cnn websites faster than the native browser...so it appears to have sped up on my Droid. I'm wondering what others think of the new UI.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy battery has never been worse since upgrading to Froyo. I don't use an auto task killer but I did use SystemPanel to manually close applications once in awhile. Now that I can't kill tasks easily, I just let everything run to see how it would turn out. I'm not saying the battery life is horrible, but it is noticeably worse now. I realize users experience will vary based on how many applications they have installed and running. I have not installed any new applications since Froyo.

View 7 Replies View Relatedso i had been having problems with the whole random rebooting issue that some people on the droid x have been having, so i called tech support and i had tried everything that they had suggested except the factory data reset. i was hesitant to do that because it just seems like doing something like that would never let me get my phone to working the way that it used to work. you know the way i had everything set up. well after the phone kept rebooting on its own i decided i would give it a shot. sure enough the phone just doesnt seem to be running the same as it did before. the phone seems to lag more, i am having to touch icons several times at times to make them work. task killer isnt running the way that it should. it just seems like the factory data reset made everything on the phone work just a little bit worse. has anyone else had this experience?

View 15 Replies View RelatedRooted Droid 1, running LFY 1.9 with it's 1ghz kernel, SPRecovery. Had a weird issue recently; the phone displayed that my battery life was at 40%, then probably ~30 minutes later it was down to 20%. I wasn't using it during that time, I just unlocked the screen to check something. Anyway, I opened my browser and within a minute or two I got the "15% battery life remaining" message, prompting me to connect my charger. I decided I would allow the phone to just die and shut itself down. So I waited ~45 minutes and it went down to 10%, then almost immediately to 5%. I turned on the GPS just to make it drain faster... I watched a one-hour television show and when it was over, I glanced over to the phone to see if it had died - nope, still on. I turned the LED light on, leaving the GPS running for ~25 minutes and it finally powered down. Then I plugged it in to charge and left the room. Came back in about 2.5 hours later and picked up the phone - it was very hot. Unlocked the screen and checked SetCPU and it was running ~135?F but it immediately started cooling down. It was fully charged, however so I unplugged it. I went to bed shortly thereafter and the battery life displayed 90% as I set the alarm to wake me up the next morning. I happened to wake up shortly before the alarm was set to go off and I picked up the phone to disable the alarm and noticed the red 'charge me' light blinking - unlocked the screen to see 5% and just then it powered itself down.
TL;DR -- Phone only got hot that one time, phone hasn't gone dead in stand-by mode again like it did that night. Battery drains at a seemingly normal rate based on my regular use from 100% down to 40%, then it rapidly drains after that, always skipping 30% and when it gets down to 5% it stays alive for quite a long time under heavy load. Is there a way to 'teach' the phone how to check and calculate actual and remaining battery % and to display it correctly? Is it kernel-related? I heard somewhere about doing a 'battery wipe' but I am unsure what that entails and searches are proving fruitless for me so far.

- I'm running the "Battery Left" widget and I have it displaying "estimated percentage left", "system percentage", and "estimated time left until dead".
- I listen to A LOT of Slacker Radio.
My issues:
- I was previously getting about 19+ hours out of a fully charged battery. 2-3 days ago I started having issues with the widget (I think it may have started when I installed an update to the widget) so I recalibrated it to no avail. Then I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Within a few hours it claimed that it was getting accurate readings (when I first installed the widget weeks ago, it took days to get accurate) and now says that I should be getting 9 hours out of a fully charged battery. I know that can't be right so I'll see how the widget adjusts itself over the next few days, but, any thoughts? (I know a lot of you guys use the same widget and know how it works...)
- Also, In the first two hours of my phone being unplugged this morning, it went from 100% to 70%. I did run Slacker for about an hour and a half of that time, but could it really drain the battery that much that quickly? And I noticed that when I close Slacker, if I go into phone settings, applications, running services - there's still a Slacker update thing running in there. Could that be draining the battery too, even if it's only checking for updates?
- I really don't run a lot of stuff on this phone. I keep wifi and gps turned off. I use bluetooth only a few hours each night. Minimal web browsing. Although, my POP email gets checked every 5 mins (but I just changed it to every 10) and I do use gchat and text a decent amount, but I'd say overall, it's "light" use (except for Slacker which could be a huge drain, right?)
So i've made the switch from my sprint blackberry to the evo, but my reception is actually worse now then what it was when i had my bb. Places I used to have 3 bars, I now have 1. Anyone else having this issue?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen i check my battery usage its saying that Maps has been using 90 percent of the battery. Its been doing this the last couple days even with me charging it at night. I didnt use maps at all today and its not showing up in my app manager as running, or a newly downloaded task killer. Its not really affecting my battery life which is weird and doesnt make sense. So i was just wondering if anyone else was having this problem(sorta more like inconvienence)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI did some testing with the Navigator yesterday and I have to say it's absolutely awesome. I'm not sure if anyone has posted this, couldn't find any mention of it, but I want to share my battery usage experience with it as well as some other cool things I noticed.
Very cool battery saver:
I used it for a 15-minute drive, keeping it only in the Notification Bar. When you are in the Navigation app, you can press the Home softkey to go back to your home screen. This keeps Navigator working in the background, but it is not drawing the maps and using the screen. You can press the Power button to put your phone to sleep, and the voice actually still talks to you and tells you when to turn. And even better, I started this trip with 76% battery and ended with 76% battery.
Now, the not-so-cool.
I used it for a 30-minute drive, keeping the screen on and letting it show me the map the entire way. I started the drive with 54% battery ended with 34% battery. So definitely keep it on the charger if you are using it for a long drive. But another awesome thing I noticed. I made a phone call toward the end of my destination, just to see what would happen. I used the Home key to back out of the Navigator (but keeping it in the background, as I said above), then made my call as normal. The Navigator still gave me directions while I was on the phone. It came through the earpiece now, so the other person doesn't hear it. How freaking cool is that?
Google Maps is taking up all of my battery life after using navigation. I've tried backing out instead of using home when on Maps. I always use 'Exit Navigation' when closing Navigation. I've tried killing the task. The only thing that has worked is restarting the phone.

The one that I found, the hard way after 3 straight days of only getting 10 hours of battery life, is the Google Talk service. I accidentally opened it and System Panel didn't kill it. I only found it by looking at Battery Uses>Running Services.

But something I'm finding very little info or comments on is how terrible the audio quality is on video recordings. It's surprisingly very bad. The video quality is looking good, but that makes the bad audio just that much worse. I've noticed this on every sample video I've checked out on You Tube. It seems that it is slightly better on the Incredible, but still pretty sub-par. If you watch video recorded from the Motorola Droid or iPhone, you can hear what a difference it is. Is this just a HTC thing, or is it something that can be adjusted?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI picked up my phone on launch day, version 2 hw. I was having a bit of the grounding issue, but the big problem was light leakage onto the screen. The whole bottom of the screen was brighter than the top. And the headphone port was junk. So I finally got my replacement yesterday, hoping to get a better phone. I turn it on, and its still a version 2 hardware. Looks good though as I played with it throughout the day. This morning I had some time to really look at it, and noticed a bunch of problems. The battery cover does not fit properly, the whole right side doesnt click in. It's literally just hanging there and has fallen off twice already. The grounding issue is bad on this phone, it wont even work in my gps holder in my car. And I am getting serious light leakage on the bottom of the phone now. I can literally stick my whole fingernail in between the bottom of the screen and the bezel. So what should I do here? Should I just try to get another replacement from RS and HOPE it works better? Or should I try to complain to Sprint about it? Sprint already told me they cant do anything yet since its within the 30 day purchase period. I really dont have time to be running back and forth to RS all week waiting for a replacement.
View 12 Replies View RelatedSo I got my replacement evo today that I was told would be new... its not, I am not very happy about that. but besides that the referb unit is in worse shape then my release day evo. The screen is up level with the bezel and higher in some spots ,the menu soft key only lights up half way and the vibrating is about half as strong as mine. they are both hardware 3. I have not activated it and have been talking to sprint for 2 hours, waiting on a supervise to call me now. I told them if they are not going to send me a new unit at least let me send back the refurb and have somebody physically test my new refurb before send it out to me to make sure it does not have issues. They say I have to send back mine and then after they get it they can send me out a new one...ERRRR I do not want to use this refurb unit untill I can get another. I am very frustrated with sprint at this point!!!
I am now calling HTC to see what they can do for me under the warenty... Ok He gave me a number for there warranty department but they closed 50 min ago so have to wait for there morning.
It has been half an hour no word from the sprint supervise. I am done ranting now hopefully this makes sense I wrote it really fast and angry. Hope everyone else is having a great Tuesday and if you got an EPIC congrats. Let me know how it is.
So, like many of you, my phone would occasionally get hot, and the battery would just zoom down to nothing. Usually this was just intermittent, and a restart would cure it.On June 10, it was happening, and persisted despite restarts, battery pulls, etc. I finally found that the problem was google trying to sync contacts. It was having some problem and cycling forever. When I unchecked the google contacts sync in the accounts preference panel, problem stopped. My battery life has never been better. Routinely getting 18-20 hrs or more.BUT I want to sync my google contacts! Every time I trial re-checking that box, it cycles and cycles, every few seconds giving a little error at the bottome of the screen (in prefs) "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly".I have 700-something contacts (Only 250 real "My Contacts" but another 500 or so auto-created contacts from gmail use.Presumably one of those entries has some corruption, but I can't figure out which, and I don't want to potentially lose all the contacts.I have seen that for some people this was fixed by factory reset and resync, but then the problem came back a few weeks later.
My dial screen has always had lag but recently it is 10 times worse, any solutions? I want to go clean my cache but cant remember / or find , how to get to that screen. Any help would be great,
