I'm thinking of fixing my motorolla droid so I can give it to my dad so he can use it's wifi ability to do some stuff. He wouldn't be signing up with Verizon. Is it possible to use the phone without a Verizon account (no calling obviously but everything else)?

For some strange reason I can't seem to set-up my personal e-mail account on this Droid phone. I click on "e-mail", I type in my e-mail address and my password, and then I click "next". And then I get a message that says my username and/or password does not match. But I am positive it does, as I have gone online to test it. I have tried retyping my username and passwrod over and over again without any success. I can't get passed that screen.
I have Verizon FiOS at my house, so my e-mail is set-up through Verizon/Yahoo.
When I got my droid Verizon had me sign up for a gmail account. Does anyone know why I need this?

Go to the GMail app, select add account, fill in the metrics and then...... "Needs to communicate" message for ~ 3 minutes, then bombs out with - "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server". 3G is fine, on a wifi connection that is fine, web browser works fine..... Google Apps account works fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is the second Droid that has started freezing on me and I have checked all of my apps individually and I have soft reset and factory reset twice....still keeps freezing when trying to return to home screen.(screen goes black and does nothing). So I called the VZ rep and he was extremely helpful. Instead of sending a refurb, he sent me a brand new droid. It wont be here until Monday (due to the holidays) but I was quite impressed with their customer service.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI spent an hour on the phone with a Verizon CSR and he could not get wifi to work on my DX, so he said they will send a new replacement on 8/3.He instructed me to do a factory reset, so it looks like I lost all my data. I really wish I would have backed up my contacts, but he said they would sync back up within an hour. I hope he's right because I don't want to bluetooth them again ONE BY ONE. Can anybody confirm the gmail sync? I lost all my texts and apps too. I'm pretty sure I read that if I had used appbrain I wouldn't have lost all my apps. But, I don't know if there's a way to back up texts.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to log into my youtube account on my Droid, it freezes up. I will open the Youtube app, press menu and click My account. Then it has 2 choices: 1) My email address, 2) Add account. When I click on my email it freezes up and eventually the Droid gives me the option to "Force close" it, as it is not responding. I also tried "Add account" and typed in my email address (which had already shown up as the first choice) and password, and it said "authenticating" and then froze up too.
View 1 Replies View RelatedGoogle Phones were handed out to all Google employees. The phone is apparently going to be sold directly by Google and apparently available in January. I'm not sure who the attorneys for Verizon are, but Google must have done some deft negotiations to be able to pull this off. They just shafted Motorala, Verizon - and us - in the butt. I'm pretty sure, post Christmas, Droid updates and fixes will become non-existent as Google focuses on their own offering. Google is indeed Microsoft with a crayola logo.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 2 gmail accounts. Unfortunately, one of them is for my calendar and contacts and the other is for my personal e-mail. As of now, my cal and contacts are syncing fine but I do not use the e-mail account that is associated with thier username. I have my other account (personal e-mail) set up sepeartely....along with a few other e-mail accounts(work and etc.). I would like to know if i can leave my cal and contacts setup on the regular droid sync account but change the e-mail account to my personal acct. so it will "push" by default with out having it in a seperate palce on the droid. I know this is confusing but i dont know how else to explian it.

Or do they glow with pride, knowing that they have developed something that struck a creative chord with so many people and that their product is something we just can't get enough of? It just may be some of the Moto-gurus themselves who prompt and post some of the modifications and changes that get us nudged into one astonishing direction or another. I can think of several helpful members here now that I would not be a bit surprised if I found that they were co-creators and architects of the Droid. Hats off and thanks to you, either way! View 3 Replies View RelatedSo i just got off the phone with a customer service rep from Verizon and was telling them about my issues because i'm on my 3rd replacement phone, and the 3rd one that just got sent out today is even worser then the ones i had to have replace, i told the rep that i wanted a new model phone, and all they could tell me was that well we'll have to just replace it with the same model, and if you're wanting to get a new model phone you would have to pay for it.How are some of you members getting the Moto Droid without any charges?? Do you guys just get nice reps? Because the rep i got was just a D*ck he wouldn't listen to what i was trying to say and kept cutting me off.
