Motorola Droid :: Search Key Not Working / Fix It

Running SS 4.8 on my Droid and cannot use the search button on the front. I get the haptic feedback and then nothing happens. If I long press it I can use the voice search but without this I am honestly tempted to go back to stock. Does anyone know how to re-associate the button properly? Rooting has been fun and all but the headache is starting to far outweigh the reward at this point. ADW launcher doesn't freeze like the default does but I would like to be able to search to get to things instead of diving 5 menus deep all of the time.

My Droid 1 broke today, picked up a DX. With the newest voice search on my droid I could say "call starbucks".It would automatically call the nearest starbucks.Now on the DX it doesn't.It comes up with a list of places that are not even in my state.

I was trying to use the voice search app, and now I cannot get it to work. Every time I open it I get a FC. Can't uninstall it, and it is the latest version. Not sure why it stopped working. Running CM6 with Slayher 1.1 and LauncherPro.

Just this morning my voice search stopped working.. gives me "Connection Problem" Anyone having similar issues? Only thing i can think of is that i installed GDE yesterday.

When I click on the search button (magnifying glass), type in the name of a person I am looking for in my contacts, I come up with a list of people who match what I have typed. On my droid, I could then click on any of the results to bring up that persons contact information. On this phone, it flashes the contact information for about a 10th of a second then goes back to my search results. I can get the contact information by clicking on the icon for that person, then selecting the contacts icon that comes up below. Is this something that is going on with my phone only or are others having this issue also.

Before, when I pressed the search button (the one with the magnifying glass) it cued up the google search bar. Now, after theming, the search button does nothing from the homescreen, but does still work while in applications, the browser, the market, etc. I am running launcher pro, deodexed w/ revolution.

I wanted to put this in the droid X section because the default way of searching contacts is horrible. I installed gesture search last night and now one of my few gripes with the phone is solved. I hated having to having to hold the options button to bring up a keyboard and then having to clear my last entry to start another search.

The upload and the search buttons don't seem to be doing anything on the YouTube widget when it's on the home screen. When I actually open the program list and open the YouTube app, the buttons work from there, just not from the home screen widget.

I am constantly annoyed by google's mobile search app. Modifying the search term is a fiasco, and using the swype keyboard to do it takes you to the bottom. Lastly, the search icon on the bar is either broken, or just does not work for me. Is there a way to make it use classic by default?

Well, it only doesn't work for web searches. It works fine for texting and even making posts on the internet. But when I just do the regular google voice search using the voice search button, it gives me the Force Close message
Im using DE03 Noobl's 1.2.3 Rom along with the Stock template DE03 and ADW Launcher. I think it may be the stock template causing this?

When I'm on the forum and push the search button, the search forums box pops up. I tap the text box and the keyboard pops up. But when I start typing, the keyboard disappears and a white bar appears on the bottom of the screen with the first letter that I typed. It happens on this website and some others but not all. Anyone else have this happen?

The search slid over to the home screen to the left, during one of the phone calls. Now to access it, I have to go to the left home screen.I tried holding down and moving it, but it only moves about within the same homepage, and I can't get it back to the middle one.

When I am browsing this forum on Dolphin HD and I click in the search button at the top right it will bring down a new menu, when I click in the text area, the keyboard will pop up but then disappear along with the menu. I basically can't search on the phone.

Yesterday I updated to the android 2.1 & rooted my phone. I have voice caller ID, & speak message service (reads out SMS messages)...& yesterday & even a few hours ago, they were working just fine... I even tried out the new voice search stuff (microphone icon) & it was fine. Well bout an hour or so ago, my phone rang & it no longer said who was calling, nor will it read out my texts...& when I click on the microphone icon, a screen pops up that says "Audio Problems" try again or cancel. What could have happened that suddenly made these stop working? If I have to reset my phone again, will I have to re-update the androiod 2.1 & root my phone again? Can someone help me out please? I would really appreciate your guys help.

My search button on my Dinc randomly stopped working today. It lights up and when I press it, I do in fact receive the haptic feedback. It just doesn't do anything. Is there a setting somewhere I might have screwed up somehow? I haven't changed anything and I did try rebooting a few times.

Just got my 1st problem with my nexus 1, had since january. my home and google search keys has stopped working. also the power button no longer locks the phone. problem started when the wi-fi wouldnt turn on, so i rebooted phone and then lost all these buttons when started up again. not done a factory reset yet as i am still at work and want to make sure ive got everything backed up 1st. also what is the best application for backing up sms?

I've noticed lately that both the Android search widget, and the HTC search widget are both not working properly. Prior to this issue, when I used either of the search widgets as I typed it would populate search results below the search text box. For some reason now this isn't happening. When I search now I don't get the instant results. I have to submit the search, and it will display the google search results in a browser window.

I use it all of the time for voice commands. "Call so and so"... I am frustrated. I really don't want to do ANOTHER hard reset. It's such a pain to get everything customized again... Ringtones especially. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas on how to fix it besides resetting it? I tried a soft reset to no avail.

When I do a Google Search I am seeing a different screen than most friends. They have tabs for the different categories and the Search Tools on the left. I am seeing the different screen below plus when I click the wrench for search tools because I only want to see results for the last week. I get the screen below. I can't figure out how to change the time option. Clicking it is not working.

This morning I was listening to RadioTime with my phone in my pocket with the screen off and 3 separate times the voice search was activated. As far as I know I didn't press anything while it was in my pocket, has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know what I can do to stop it because it is really annoying.

Ever since I rooted I can no longer use any voice search on my droid. It always tells me that its has to force close as soon as I click on the icon. Is this a known issue with bugless beast 1.2 that I just have to deal with? I love having my phone rooted but id rather have a fully functioning phone that a rooted phone.
