I wanted to put this in the droid X section because the default way of searching contacts is horrible. I installed gesture search last night and now one of my few gripes with the phone is solved. I hated having to having to hold the options button to bring up a keyboard and then having to clear my last entry to start another search.

Just downloaded this...Can anyone get it to work on the X? I changed it to easy and flipped and flipped, tried going back to the Moto homescreen to see if that helped, but no dice...

Now, after theming, the search button does nothing from the homescreen, but does still work while in applications, the browser, the market, etc. I am running launcher pro, deodexed w/ revolution.

View 1 Replies View RelatedGesture Search (by Google) is a battery hog. My Seidio 1750 battery (a replacement and brand new) was draining a lot quicker than the one it was exchanged for, so after having it on for most of the day I decided to see what was causing the drain.
Gesture Search used the most battery out of all of the processes and it had the least amount of actual use. With my battery at around 70% after 12 hours (not much actual use today), Gesture Search had 47% of the battery use (the next highest being cell standby at 17%) and the actual time it was in use was 1m38s.
I don't know why that would be except that it has to always be running in the background (when setup for flip to open) and that maybe the cause of the battery drain. I'm going to set it to only open from the application shortcut and see if that alleviates the excessive battery drain. I'll let you know what I find.
I wanted to disable the googlenow / google search swipe up launch from the bottom bar.
The reason - to use swipepad for another gesture.
I have seen apps in the market that disable the launch of the google app, but the ring still shows up and cannot be used for another app.
Is there a way to clear the search history in the market search engine?

However the results retrieved from this function are really bad and not at all consistent with the text I pass to it. Is there a better method of doing this to achieve accurate results?

In one of those, I'd like to implement type-to-search as well, but the standard method of adding search context info doesn't work in that case... the onSearchRequested() method in the activity is never called. Is there any way to include search context info in a type-to-search invocation, or am I stuck with only the Search key and menu option?

But when I start typing, the keyboard disappears and a white bar appears on the bottom of the screen with the first letter that I typed. It happens on this website and some others but not all. If I long press it I can use the voice search but without this I am honestly tempted to go back to stock. Does anyone know how to re-associate the button properly? Rooting has been fun and all but the headache is starting to far outweigh the reward at this point. ADW launcher doesn't freeze like the default does but I would like to be able to search to get to things instead of diving 5 menus deep all of the time.

It used to work that when I held down the little magnifying glass in the lower right corner of my screen it would bring up a voice search that let me say pretty much anything... navigate to [here], call [this person]. It's stopped doing that. Now when I hold it down it brings up a little message saying "you haven't enabled quick compose, please enable it from handcent settings"

When you start typing the letters you type appear above the keyboard and the emails are filtered on subject/sender by what you type.
Very cool...would like to have things like sorting by subject/sender, and searching contents, but heck, getting any search at all in exchange email on the Droid is great...does not exist in stock 2.2.
Hopefully I'm not the only one who didn't know. I'm on the 2.3.15 leak...no idea if it is in 2.2.20 as well...
My Droid 1 broke today, picked up a DX. With the newest voice search on my droid I could say "call starbucks".It would automatically call the nearest starbucks.Now on the DX it doesn't.It comes up with a list of places that are not even in my state.

View 12 Replies View RelatedWhenever I want to send a text message to my friend Bob, i'll type "bob" in the recipients name and no phone number will come up even though he is stored in my contacts. However, whenever i want to send a text to Jill, I simply type "Jill" in the recipients box in the SMS and her phone number pops up. In order to send a text message to Bob, i have to go into Contacts-->Search-->Send text. It's more of a nuisance than anything else and was wondering if there was a remedy for it. I have tried re-programming the contacts information into the phone but the problem still exists.
