Motorola Droid :: Rubbing Alcohol / Acetone And Droid's Plastic Parts?
Dec 5, 2009
More specifically, the rubber/plastic edge that runs around the keyboard the the edge of the keyboard itself (the piece without the letters).I got a tiny bit of super glue on that rubber/plastic (I'm sure it's plastic but it feels kind of rubbery) edge. I'm debating about trying to remove it (it's almost unnoticeable, except to me, meaning I'll notice it constantly ).I know acetone will remove super glue. I've heard that rubbing alcohol can too, which is why I would try it first (it's less caustic than acetone, less chance of damaging the plastic). Is this a bad idea? Also, if rubbing alcohol works, would the alcohol that's on alcohol wipes (like the screen cleaner wipes) work as well? They're both isopropyl so I don't see why it wouldn't (the concentrations may be different, that's the only thing I can think of).

Never applied either of these two things to plastic so I'm not sure what will happen.

Is the Droid X is constructed out of anodized aluminum or hard plastic? Hard to tell from pictures, and I haven't found any official data on this.I'm hoping for a nice aluminum build like the Nokia N8/Moto Devour/ Original Droid, but even if it is a hard plastic, at least it's a matte finish which is superior to the "finger print magnet" finish of its rival EVO 4G.

Is this plastic really necessary? My brother says it helps protect the back of the screen from the slide out mechanism.I'm asking because some of it is starting to come off through regular use and I'm wondring if it's gonna be a problem if it is necessary and it all comes off.

I had my X sent to me through the mail, which I've never done before. Always I've bought my phones in a store so the phone unboxing and set up has always been done for me. Since there was no instruction booklet I was left to my own devices. There was a little piece of plastic in the back that was marked pull or lift, so I did, thinking it was some sort of protection for the inerds while shipping. Pulled it completely off and then put the battery in. Now I think I've come to realize, that was to make pulling out the battery easier.
My question is this, is the sole purpose of that piece of plastic for pulling the battery out, or is it also protective layer between the phone and the battery? Should I get it replaced? Or am I fine leaving as is and it just being a pain to pull the battery out?

So I noticed some (protective) plastic on the back of the sliding screen today. I gave it a little flick to see if it was meant to stay, but it peeled right off. Seems to be part of the plastic films put on before shipping. Can't believe I haven't seen this in over 2 months (of course I rarely slide it open).Sliding mechanism is much smoother now and certainly not loose. It has also opened up a whole new Droid Feature: It is so shiny and reflective on the back of the slider now, if you get lost in the woods and are out of cel reception, you can use the back of the slider to reflect the sun and signal the rescue plane while still playing your favorite game to pass the time Droid does Survival tool!

The plastic edge that runs around the lower part of the slider on my phone is a bit loose right next to where you plug the micro USB into the phone. It's very minimal, just a little bit of give that you can't actually see but if you press against it there is a slight clicking noise from the plastic edge moving slightly.

I always hear people saying how amazing this app is and how to diagnose what is eating your battery. however I for the life of me can't figure it out. I bet it is super simple, but I just can't see it. Where do I go to see what programs maybe keeping my phone awake...what usage do I look at, what do I press? Also, what settings should I use for it? I am about to go into Verizon today, because my phones voltage is above 4v (I heard that when it is in the 4 range, you may have a bad battery also...), but I want to see the amazingess of this APP that everyone seems to know but me

I read online you can turn on battery percentage through Spare Parts. BB1 does have Spare Parts installed, but I cannot find the feature. I also found Spare Parts in the Marketplace, but can't download it. Any suggestions? Main feature I want in BB.

I notice that Spare Parts came with a Task Management option. I was wondering if anyone has seen a conflict between using Spare Parts and AutoKiller which seems to have the same job except with more features?

Anyone know of a "skin" type case, plastic or otherwise that goes on the back and will lock or prevent the keyboard from sliding open. I have no intention of using the keyboard.

I'm making an app which has a flow roughly as below: User starts on the main screen with an empty list, hits menu, and goes to "add item." (Activity A) User is given a new activity which allows them to specify search criteria, then hits "go" to do a search. (Activity B) User gets a list of results, and can click on one of them to view more details. (Activity C) User sees details of item, and can use a menu item to save it to their list in Activity A. (Activity D) Right now, I am having each Activity call each other Activity for results, and then it is passing the result all the way back up the stack as it returns to Activity A. Is there a way to jump this, since all I want is for a result in Activity D to get to Activity A directly? Note that a user should still be able to navigate backwards (using the back button) through each activity, but if they explicitly save the item in Activity D, I want it to jump straight to Activity A.

Picked up a tip for other 'wet phone accidents'. Don't use rice and don't put your Phone On, the best way to sort a wet phone is alcohol gel (the stuff used in hospital for your hands). 90% alcohol or more (you can buy that at a chemist or supermarket). Get a resealable bag. Put the alcohol gel in the resealable bag, drop your phone in, minus the battery/sim/memory card and shake it around a bit take/make sure the gel gets everywhere. Leave it a few minutes, bring it out and leave it sitting for a bit. And ok.
I know what your thinking, why wet an already wet phone. Well the alcohol gel evaporates at room temperature, it also more or less eats away the water in the phone. As another tip for water damage, get some scotch tape and put it over each moisture indicator when you return your phone-remove it. This may or may not work, however I don't recommend anyone try it, its just a point of conversation!

So I bought my LG ally and the sales rep walked out with a bunch of cases and asked my favorite color. I chose the clear one. I love the sales rep to death cause he is actually a really good friend, however, I don't feel safe with the cheap-feeling plastic case. Its the clear one that flexes alot and stuff. DOes it really protect it?I had the body glove on my old env touch and, while working on a 3 story roof on the phone, dropped it and it landed straight on concrete. Walked down, picked it up and finished my call. On the other hand, I drop my ally out of my car on accident and the case simply falls off.if theres no benefit, i'm just going to take it off as it looks dumb.

My Galaxy S came with a little piece of sticky plastic, with a cut-out hole for the lens itself, that covered the camera bezel.I assume this was just to prevent the silver bit getting scratched in transit, and not for anything important like keeping dust out of the housing, etc?I only ask because I assumed it was intended to be removed, but it was quite tricky to get off. So when I finally did get it off, I suddenly wondered if I should have done.
