Motorola Droid : Does Spare Parts 'Task Management Conflict At All With AutoKiller

Jun 4, 2010

I notice that Spare Parts came with a Task Management option. I was wondering if anyone has seen a conflict between using Spare Parts and AutoKiller which seems to have the same job except with more features?

Motorola Droid X :: Spare Parts App - Eating Battery

Aug 14, 2010

I always hear people saying how amazing this app is and how to diagnose what is eating your battery. however I for the life of me can't figure it out. I bet it is super simple, but I just can't see it. Where do I go to see what programs maybe keeping my phone awake...what usage do I look at, what do I press? Also, what settings should I use for it? I am about to go into Verizon today, because my phones voltage is above 4v (I heard that when it is in the 4 range, you may have a bad battery also...), but I want to see the amazingess of this APP that everyone seems to know but me

I tried the Search feature to no avail for this particular question. When I originally downloaded the Spare Parts application for my Motorola Droid, it would show the amount of time each program had my phone in 'wakelock'. Ex: Going into the Partial Wake usage would show times. However, lately I noticed going in there this no longer happens... Anyways, just curious if anyone here has any ideas as to why.

HTC EVO 4G : Does Handcent SMS Take Up A Lot Of Resources According To Spare Parts

Aug 10, 2010

I've noticed that when the setting for Handcent SMS has the Blinking LED to "Fast", "Normal", or "Slow" it'll eat up resources and takes up +80% of the Partial Wake Time Usage according to Spare Parts. I've noticed this with 2.1, 2.2, and 2.2 again after a hard reset. I'm assuming it's an issue with the last few updates of Handcent as I did not have this problem a month ago.

With it set to "Default" blinking it'll consume normal resources like every other app. Thing is with the "Default" blinking, it just stays green like it's fully charged. I'd appreciate if someone else can look into this and see if this same issue is present for you.

Samsung Moment :: How To Decipher 'Spare Parts' App?

Dec 21, 2009

I have been reading the forums since i got my phone, and it has been invaluable. Thanks for all the knowledgeable contributors. One thing that was recommended by several people was to download "spare parts", so I did. That being said, I have no idea what the results mean! For example, if I look under battery history, and other usage, it reads "running (100%) and screen time (100%) I have no idea what that means!

Also people state you can tell which applications are sucking the life of your battery, and I have no idea how to do that.

HTC Droid Eris :: Memory Management - Task Killing?

Feb 22, 2010

Ok after seeing the somewhat heated threads on here about whether or not to use a task killer to help mange memory and improve performance on the droid Eris I decided to run my own little unscientific test.

So just a bit of background, Ive been in enterprise wide IT for 10 years now. I will say that my O/S knowledge is not exactly current but that may not be a bad thing for this. I will also state that what I report is just my own experience and I have not repeated is several times to validate anything. YMMV!

About four weeks ago my Eris was running like poo. Slow, lag city and getting almost unusable. I had been using Advanced Task killer quite liberally during this time trying to keep the device usable. Short term it seemed to help restore some of the response issues but it didnt take long before I was trying reboots to get the phone working well. Here is a list of apps I had installed at the time.

Pandora
Weather Bug
Shop Savy
Google Sky
Daily Dilbert
Bloom County
WiFi Analyzer
Silent Mode Toggle
Taskiller
SpareParts
battery Widget
Robot Guitarist
keyring reward
tv.com
NPR News
Movies
Shazam
Zedge
ip-calc
aldiko
JogTracker
UnitConverter
Backgrounds
photoshop mobile
plink art
Weather channel
Radar now
Last.fm

Plus a few others that had been removed.

That quite a few apps but not overboard in my book, and most seem to be pretty stable.

Anyway I decided to wipe the device and start over again, but with the debate raging I decided that I was not going to run any sort of task killer or other memory manager. And that I was going to run for at least four weeks and report the results. I will say I trimmed some of the redundant apps (weather bug replaced all the other weather apps nicely)

I have to say that over all I dont feel like I need a memory manager or task killer. It would be hard to say that the phone is a zippy as it was right after I wiped it, but as of now its no where near as laggy as it was before I wiped it. I feel my battery life is just fine, but I am not one who thinks that battery is an issue anyway. If there is 10% left when my head hits the pillow at night then I am a happy camper.

So this does beg the question what does using a memory manager really do for your experience on the phone? I cant for sure state that using a task killer caused my lag issues before, but it was not helping at the time either. My apps and usage have not changed very much other then not using a task killer and as of now my phone is running pretty darn well.

For me I am pretty firmly in the do-not-need-a-task-killer-camp for now. And before you flame or argue with me I challenge you to try it both ways for a while (with a clean wipe). I am sure that others have had a different experiences and maybe using one works for them.

Motorola Droid X :: Conflict Between LauncherPro And WidgetLocker?

Aug 15, 2010

Today I rebooted my phone and LauncherPro got stuck starting, only displaying a window in the top left corner, like it couldn't finish rendering the preview screen, and it never starts on that anyway. I was totally stuck without access to the menu buttons but still had the notification for WidgetLocker, so I was able to get to that, unlock it, restart the Moto launcher, and disable WidgetLocker. Now that it's disabled, I seem to be able to make LauncherPro my home again, but it looks like I'll have to disable WidgetLocker, which I really liked. Not sure what else could be causing the problem - probably something to do with WidgetLocker's home launcher sub-app.

Motorola Droid :: Spare Battery - Solar Charger Or Powerpack?

Mar 3, 2010

Looking forward to warmer weather in the NE US and thinking about nice long bike rides. I am psyched to have such a cool little GPS/computer/map system and plan to take the Droid on long rides. Some will be 3+ hours and I don't want to worry about running out of juice. Researching it looks like I have a few options and wanted to know what you all think. Mostly I think the droid will just sit in my Jersey pocket with screen off but tracking GPS. Occasionally I will check maps.

1- buy a spare battery - weight- not much, 1300 mAh - Downside, sometime during the ride I will need to swap batteries and restart GPS apps that I might be running. This would be really annoying so I think this is out as an option.

2- battery extender like Satechi iCel 4400 mAh Battery Extender. Pricey but would certainly give me enough ride time & gets excellent reviews

3 - Solio H1000 Universal Hybrid Charger Not as much power as the battery extender but I really like the idea of charging while I am out riding, although it seems to charge pretty slowly and needs direct sunlight. Even without serious sun it would probably provide enough of a charge for all but the longest rides. Gets "ok" reviews

Motorola Droid :: Rubbing Alcohol / Acetone And Droid's Plastic Parts?

Dec 5, 2009

More specifically, the rubber/plastic edge that runs around the keyboard the the edge of the keyboard itself (the piece without the letters).I got a tiny bit of super glue on that rubber/plastic (I'm sure it's plastic but it feels kind of rubbery) edge. I'm debating about trying to remove it (it's almost unnoticeable, except to me, meaning I'll notice it constantly ).I know acetone will remove super glue. I've heard that rubbing alcohol can too, which is why I would try it first (it's less caustic than acetone, less chance of damaging the plastic). Is this a bad idea? Also, if rubbing alcohol works, would the alcohol that's on alcohol wipes (like the screen cleaner wipes) work as well? They're both isopropyl so I don't see why it wouldn't (the concentrations may be different, that's the only thing I can think of).

Android :: Project Management / Business - Money Management Applications?

Oct 30, 2009

I currently have a personal (HTC Touch Pro) and business phone (iPhone). With Sprint now offering unlimited any-mobile (freeing up 1300+ minutes a month on my family plan) and Google Voice allowing me to get a separate business number, I'm thinking about dropping my iPhone, and replacing the HTC with either a BlackBerry Tour or a Hero. I work in project management; I know that the BB does have applications that would be useful to me (as does the iPhone), but I can't find comparable apps for Android. As a personal phone though, I would rather have the Hero. Given that I've only been able to spend a limited amount of time browsing the Android Market in a Sprint store, I was hoping someone here might know of some good replacements for my "must have" apps.

1) PIM / Task management. I have a lot of tasks, meetings, and deadlines to manage. I need something similar to the functionality provided by Outlook. I currently use Pocket Informant on the iPhone, which allows me to view multiple calandars, see my schedule from the month-level view, and integrate my to-do lists. I can also assign calander events and to-do tasks to projects, give them priority, provide extra notes, add multiple reminders, etc.. I could probably live with the Android's calander, but I definately need a good to-do app.

2) Time tracking. I have an app on the iPhone (TimeLogger) that lets me track how much time I spend on projects for clients. The one I currently use allows me to start a timer and then come back later to stop it, which is helpful but not a must.

3) Personal finance manager. I track all of my purchases, have several accounts / cards, and need to be able to track/filter business vs personal purchases.

Motorola Droid :: Contact Management - New Contacts Don't Show

Nov 10, 2009

Here is what my Contacts look like in Gmail (See below). I imported phone numbers from old phone to the group "Phone Contacts" then got rid of old people and moved them to "Old Phone Contacts". I have it set to only show the 98 Phone Contacts in my contacts on the Droid. (Display Options - Only select "Phone Contacts") Then Facebook only updates those contacts. Then I tried to add a contact on the phone. New Contact --> then selected my google account to add it to. It would then add it to "My Contacts" and not a specific group. So when I go to my contacts in the phone i do not see the new contact because it is not in the "Phone Contacts" group.

See the problem? I tried to see if I could add the new contact to the group on setup of the contact. Nope. Any ideas on how best to do this? It is a real bummer.

Motorola Droid X :: File Management For Pics And Videos?

Aug 15, 2010

I am a former blackberry user and I've been trying to figure out the file system in this droid. I need to be able to do some things and I'm not sure they can be done. I have some pictures and vids that I want to keep private. I am often showing my pics and vids to people and the ones I don't want to be seen are in the same folders. I have tried to move certain pics and vids to a different place using the phone itself, but I can't figure that out.

I was hoping that when I plugged up the phone to my PC it might recognize it like it does a camera or something but it doesn't. I even installed the motorola software but that didn't do anything. If I take the card out of the phone and put it directly in my PC, I can see it that way and modify things, but when I put it back in the phone nothing is as I had changed it on the PC.

Motorola Droid 2 :: Contact Management - Google Contacts Dumped On Phone

Oct 28, 2010

Nothing seems to be working, so I figured I would give this a shot. I have a new Droid 2 from Verizon and it is a Motorola phone. ALL my Google contacts have been dumped on the phone. I have already verified that is ALL contacts, not just "My Contacts" and there doesn't seem to be any way to get it to just My Contacts.

I tried creating a group in the GMail contacts list for just the phone numbers I wanted, but there is zero way to get to that list. The only options I have when I open up Contacts in terms of filtering is All Contacts/Google contacts/Phone contacts. (The latter has no contacts in it because I prefer to have my phone numbers synced as a backup.)

My contact list is so large that when I go to text someone or pull up the contact list, it takes about five minutes for the list to propagate. All I want is my own user-defined list -- and have NO other contacts on the phone (not just filtered out, although I would take that, but not existing, period). The GMail app would be able to find any other contact anyways, so I don't need it in the actual phone book. I've looked everywhere on Google and it seems like no solutions out there seem to exist for me. All I want is to limit my contact list. I used to have Facebook and Twitter under Social Networking as well, but that just made my contacts list even worse so I got rid of those. Ideally I would like to get these back as well and just have them leave my contacts list alone.
