The over-the-air update for the Motorola CLIQ has been delayed to the week of February 22. An updated article will be available once a date has been determined.
On February 18, Motorola will begin sending over-the-air (OTA) software updates to Motorola CLIQ customers. The software update will improve device performance and resolve several known issues.
Improved Performance:
Improved battery life
Improved software performance and stability
Improved widget response
Decreased Force Close error messages
New Manage SIM Card application
Support of .WMA and .WAV media files
Removal of the imeem mobile application
Known Issues Resolved:
Accessories & Bluetooth
Error: 'Unable to pair' or 'Unable to connect to device'
Call functions
Can activate other functions while listening to visual voicemail
Call not ended by pressing the End key
Speakerphone turns on unexpectedly when answer incoming call
Plays ringtone or vibrates while on an active call
Unable to answer incoming call using �Slide to answer� feature
Accidentally opens Dialer or makes outbound while holding device
Device hardware (battery, keys, power, screen)
Battery indicator may not display accurate battery power
Call not eded by pressing the End key
Touch screen issues
Cannot answer incoming call using the Slide to answer feature
Incorrect keys registered using on-screen keyboard
Touch display appears to have �dead spots� that are unresponsive
Accidentally selects item when trying to flick through screens or menus

Customers can manually download the OTA on demand by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates. Customers do not need to wait for a notification message to download.
Action Steps
Be aware of the fixes and enhancements included in the Motorola CLIQ update.
If customers are experiencing any Known Issue that will be resolved by the software update:
Do not file a handset exchange
Advise customers that the issue will be resolved by a software update on February 18.
Important Rebate Changes

Customers eligible for rebates as part of new activations or upgrades must be advised they will receive their rebates in the form of a prepaid Visa card.
When customers take advantage of our new Early Upgrade or Early Upgrade Plus options, they are not eligible for upgrade rebate cards. These new upgrade options allow customers to take advantage of upgrades sooner and provide an instant discount, instead of having to wait for rebate cards.
To be eligible for an upgrade rebate card, customers must meet upgrade eligibility requirements.
Current, 1-year contracts: 11 or more active months since last discounted handset purchase.

Rebates on eligible purchases require contract extensions and a $9.99 or higher Data/Messaging feature.

In this ROM, there is an updated music player. While the update is not very significant, it does change it a little bit. -There are no longer buttons for songs, albums, playlists, and artist. They are now tabs and always there. -If a song is playing, a "now playing" bar is always at the bottom of the screen -When you open an album, the album art is in the background of the song list. You can see in the following screenshots: Once you get to the song playing screen, though, it is the same as before. As for overall, the new 2.1 ROM is very good. Improved performance for sure. The gallery is very quick, browser, etc. GPS works, keyboard back light is improved. LED notifications still are quirky.

When I originally downloaded the Spare Parts application for my Motorola Droid, it would show the amount of time each program had my phone in 'wakelock'. Ex: Going into the Partial Wake usage would show times. However, lately I noticed going in there this no longer happens... Anyways, just curious if anyone here has any ideas as to why.

Aug 10, 2010I've noticed that when the setting for Handcent SMS has the Blinking LED to "Fast", "Normal", or "Slow" it'll eat up resources and takes up +80% of the Partial Wake Time Usage according to Spare Parts. I've noticed this with 2.1, 2.2, and 2.2 again after a hard reset. I'm assuming it's an issue with the last few updates of Handcent as I did not have this problem a month ago.
With it set to "Default" blinking it'll consume normal resources like every other app. Thing is with the "Default" blinking, it just stays green like it's fully charged. I'd appreciate if someone else can look into this and see if this same issue is present for you.

Thanks for all the knowledgeable contributors.One thing that was recommended by several people was to download "spare parts", so I did. That being said, I have no idea what the results mean! For example, if I look under battery history, and other usage, it reads "running (100%) and screen time (100%) I have no idea what that means!
Also people state you can tell which applications are sucking the life of your battery, and I have no idea how to do that.

Dec 1, 2009I don't know if it's my phone or what but when I look up the Other Usage on my phone, it shows it "Running" more than 2/3 of the time.And on Network Usage, "Android System" and "Media" use a great deal of the phone as well.I think this might have to do with my "android.process.acore" crashing every once in a while when it's asleep. Based on everyone's feedback I might have to return the Moment for a third time.

Jun 2, 2010I didn't at first, but I have been for at least the last week. I'm not entirely certain why, though. I used to be below 30% at the end of every day (1.5 and 2.1 OTA), regardless of how much/little I used the phone. Often having to put it on the charger when I got home from work just to make it through the evening. Lately, I've been ending my day (15+ hours off the charger) at 50-60% remaining, consistently. I'm curious to know if others have experienced this, or if it's just something weird with my phone. AFAIK, most of the data sync settings are exactly the same as they were.
Interestingly, I am leaving 3g and GPS on always, now, where I used to turn them on only when needed. Also, it seems that my mail and weather widgets are not updating as consistently, which could be leading to some increases. I have used the "end all" in System Panel a few times when the battery seemed to be draining extra fast, but I have my mail, weather, sms, etc. Excluded, so I don't know if that's it.
HTC Droid Eris :: Solar Spare Battery - $30?
Feb 3, 2010Just saw this on Gizmodo, it's a solBAT charger for any USB device... it's a 1500 mA battery that pumps 5V through a USB hookup. It's not exactly a perfect solution to anything (especially since it seems like it would be most useful in a car, which is when you'd be able to plug into the cigarette lighter anyway), but still: you can essentially boost your battery using only the sun, and it's only $30... pretty cool!
Thought I'd post it here for anybody with environmentalist inclinations who's having battery problems... or if you're like me, and you're planning some extended hiking/camping trips for the summer, and were trying to figure out how you were going to keep your phone alive for more than a couple of days

Dec 3, 2009Will Android 2.0/2.1 improve performance? The Eris is a cool phone and all but it simply cant keep up with me. There is nothing wrong with my phone also. I have rebooted it and have 80mb free memory. Same thing at Verizon store display phone. It just cant keep up and the lag and waiting periods (1 second or so) are annoying me. Yes one second is alot of lag time when you are trying to do things. It sounds like "only one second" but there are 100 of these one second lag times all over the phone. Im not even an "expert" or "hardcore" user.
Anyon know if Android 2.0 will run faster? Playing a simple MP3 while trying to navigate the phone increases the lag times. Why dosnt the older iphone 3g have these lag issues when they both have equal CPUs?
When will Google and HTC aknowledge the MAJOR issue with the ENTIRE phone slowing down the a crawl once available RAM goes under 30mb. (common with all Android phones) Is it SO hard to have the ability to shutdown apps and automatically remove them from ram when Im done using them? This is the same stupidity Windows Mobile went through back in 2003. Yes I understand that Android will remove unused apps from RAM to make room for the next one but this is where the lag is coming from. The entire phone slows to a crawl unless you free up some memory with 3rd party apps.
HTC Droid Eris :: Instantly Improve Performance In 2.1 OTA?
May 25, 2010I have a couple friends with the Eris that went from loving their phones to hating them shortly after receiving the 2.1 OTA upgrade. They were quite happy with 1.5, but were looking forward to 2.1 - because I bragged about the improvements in the leaks.
I was playing around with their phones last night and they were having serious lag when scrolling, receiving calls and switching from portrait to landscape mode. I turned off window animations completely and those issues went away immediately. The phones are now pretty speedy.
If you're looking for that setting, it's under: Settings > Sound & display > Animation > No animations.

Jun 21, 2010I am curious to see if anyone has had improved battery life by disabling htc sense and running stock android 2.1. Since I purchased my evo I have been running sense and just recently disabled it from running by default and set it to run the original home by default. I have seen a little bit of battery improvement but not enough to come to any good conclusion just yet. To me sense makes the phone a lot better mostly because of the widgets so I'll end up switching it back after a while but I was just curious to see if there would be any major difference as far as battery life goes.
