Note: I did search before posting and came up empty handed so dont bash me if this has been asked before.

So why pay for a text plan when you already probably have data plan on your phone? Not sure how much unlimited texts is now but I have an old plan which is $10 dollars a month for unlimited Verizon to Verizon; with 500 texts out of network. So, if I cancel texts on my cell phone plan I can just use the "mail" application that comes with the phone. Use my gmail account and send out texts to numbers and tell my friends when sending me a text just type "username@gmail.com". This way I receive texts from other people through my e-mail and I can also reply back with an e-mail which would really be like a text. You can text from your computer and cell phone.Very useful encase you want to save money. I am thinking about canceling texts on my plan. Maybe you all already knew this. I knew I could send pictures to my phone years ago before I even had a smart phone but I just realized this again and thought about canceling my text plan. What do you guys think?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there an Android app anywhere that will count how many SMS text messages I have used to date in a month? I have found a data counter which tells me the amount of data going through the phone via WiFi and the mobile network, but as these are both unlimited on my plan, it's no use. However I only get 300 minutes and 300 SMS messages each month included in my plan and would like to know where I am with those at any time.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo my wife and I went over on our text messaging (I'm glad she went over too, or I'd gotten an earfull. Now she can't say too much). Anyway, any recommendations for an SMS counter app? I dunno if Handcent has one built in, but I'd like one that retains all data between changing/updating ROMs. I have the 250 messaging package. Text messaging is ridiculous in price.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm finally going to make the jump over to android from winmo this week after years of loyalty but the one thing that could sway my decision is the ability to do t9 texting. yeah i know there are all these new fangled ways to text like swype but imo nothing beats the simplicity of a 9 button predictive layout I played with my brother's incredible which had it but i'm unsure if that was an HTC thing or not. So are all android keyboards the same with the same option and if not does anyone know if the X will have t9 text?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe vibrate feature for my text and email alerts no longer functions. It is just completely silent (ringer is off, but phone is set to vibrate, not silent). I have the setting for Also Vibrate on Notification checked so my setting are right, it seems. The vibration works for incoming calls, but not my alerts... I did have locale installed which is the only app I can imagine messing with it. I have uninstalled Locale but the problem persists.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have had a slider phone for years and could text super fast. Then I switched to an Eris where I had the option of using the qwerty keyboard on landscape OR I could hold it upright and use the numeric keyboard with T9 like I did on my slider. I always held it upright and was very happy. I was having reception issues with my eris so I traded it for a Moto Droid. Is there an option for the numeric type of keyboard becuase it takes me friggin forever to type a text.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo i have my contacts in my phone, fine and dandy, when i first got my phone i accidently synched facebook contacts with my phone, meaning every person on my facebook with a phone # on their fb was imported into my phone, you know as well as i do, 90% of our fb friends arent phone contact friends, so i unsynched fb..now the issue im having is this. If i go into messaging, and in the To: feild i start to type a persons name in my contact to text them, for some people it doesnt show up, altho if u go into my contacts their name is clearly there. The other issue, is when i start to type names, it still brings up peoples names and numbers from FB altho their contact isnt saved in my phone..so everytime i wanna text someone i hasve to goto contacts, find them, clickhold and select text contact..kind of annoying for mass texts ect....

View 2 Replies View RelatedI think I read it on here a while back, but can't find the post, about setting up an autoreply for texting. Something along the lines of "I am currently driving and cannot read nor respond to your message," that you turn on and off like an email "Out of Office" reply. Anyone know if there is an app that does this?

Like it shows the other person's pic next to their text when msging but when you reply it shows only a cartoon image of the android dude for you. Is there a way to change that picture? I can't seem to locate it.
I have a group of 5 friends whom are trying to stay in contact with each other. Heres the situation:
Me
Android
Free Texting to Verizon
Carrier: Verizon
Dara
Android
Unlimited Texting
Carrier: Verizon
Spader.................
Now theres some interesting groupchat apps out there. I was looking into using BrightKite... My classmates use it during boring lectures in gradschool. But the problem with BrightKite is that Empty (that is his nickname) does not have free texting to any carrier but verizon, and BrightKite's groupchat # is not verizon. I am in a similar situation, but since I have an android phone I can access the groupchat via that and I don't need to use up my texts.............
I am looking for a texting app that allows received text messages to be unlimited in length, without getting broken up into segments. Other improvements would be fine, but this is the one feature I am most interested in.

i also have wifi and gps on all the time, settings for brightness is automatic. cpu set 550min to 880max. and have juicy defender free running. also tons of widgets "about 3 screens full of widgets. and lookout defender/set cpu/ nimbuzz/ battery status running in the notification bar. to me it looks like its fine, but what i noticed after really looking at the plot is the battery power drops 10% almost every 30 minutes during heavy use. and a hour between 10% drops and its almost on the dot to.
With low use - screen at almost 0, pandora for less an hour, browsing for less then an hour and some mild txting/emailing, my phones about to die. I rarely get 8 hours of use like this. Screen times out at 15 seconds, all GPS, WiFi and BT off......all the tricks and tips.
I am thinking of exchangin it, but i really dont want to have to re-install all my apps and widgets, input all my contacts and re-set everything up like I have it. ive had the phone since day 1, and have spent a ton of time tweaking it how i like it.
Is this info stored on the SD card so it can be easily swapped over to the new phone?
Any spell check apps for texting, email and Facebooking? I suck at spelling..

View 5 Replies View RelatedHere go my top 10 problems with DROID.
1) EMAIL no empty the trash? I have over 1000 emails in the trash and I cant empty them.
2) EMAIL You can EASILY open an email trying to check it.
3) EMAIL No way to create filters to separate emails and create JUNK filters.
4) EMAIL You can easily open an email trying to scroll. Seems like we need a safe area on the left or right so we can scroll without opening the email.
5) Text Messaging. You cant copy a sent message or a portion of it? This doesn't seem possible and is very irritating. I cant forward a message either.
6) Text Messaging something read a text message for me? Like a text to voice reader? This can help with all the driving rules.
7) Text Messaging An automatic reply that can be turned off or on to inform users you are on the road.
8) Video Player. I like to play movies but have often noticed audio drift on several
videos. SO the video player needs a way to delay or advance audio to match the video like VLC has.
9) Video Player ZOOM I need custom zoom sizes so I can play video and resize them to FIT the video window irrespective of the aspect ratio. The screen it too small to care.
I want to digitize my video at 320x480 and zoom it up why not so I can get more video on my phone.
10) WEB Browser Last complaint for today.. FLASH WHERE THE $^$%#& is the FLASH support that was promised by Adobe?
11) WEB Browser Shouldn't you be able to copy text from a web page to use in a search?
WHY cant I view pages without being classified into special class?
I love the phone but it really lags from where I expected it to be at this point. With so many developers maybe its hard to find the good stuff?
