If I turn off the gmail sync to save battery, is there a way to have it refresh on it's own every hour or so, or is it all or nothing? Either push or manual.

Is anyone noticing no rhyme or reason as to when Gmail syncs? I'm getting a long delay sometimes. I am hooked up to WiFi at work, but have low cell signal in this area. I looked for a setting to change sync time but didn't find one.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been reading up on the concept of push email, and how it's supposed to be a huge battery saver (since in theory, the phone would only receive a notification of an e-mail, and not the actual e-mail itself). I have also been reading up on how the "Gmail" app's version of Push email is not the same as other Push e-mail software, in that it requires the phone to "Sync" whenever an e-mail hits the Gmail server. As a result, whenever I would try to turn Auto Sync off (supposedly to save battery), I would no longer be able to get my e-mail notifications in real time.
With this in mind, I attempted to find another application that would enable me to use Push email for my Gmail account, without having to "Sync" with Gmail's server. After messing around for a bit, I found that I could manually input my Gmail account info (Incoming Server, Outgoing Server, Username, Pass, Etc.) into the stock "Email" app that comes with the X. Once this was done, I was able to enable "Data Push" in the "Email" app's Settings menu (as well turning off any Polling intervals). By doing this, I was able to receive new Gmail notifications through the "E-mail" app, even when Auto Sync had been turned off. As a bonus, I received them around 15 seconds faster than I did with the "Gmail" app's version of Push.....
I seem to remember changing the refresh rate for gmail, and now I'd like to change it back, but I can't figure out how to get to the screen that lets me select the refresh rate (5 min, 30 min, 1 hr, 2 hr, 4 hours or something like that).
View 10 Replies View Relatedim not an expert on how push email works, but my understanding is that gmail messages should appear on my phone without me having to refresh or manually sync the gmail app. for a reason unknown to me, sometimes this works and sometimes it doesnt. at night, i shut down wifi and the mobile network to conserve battery and start up the mobile network when i leave for work in the morning. i get notification of new yahoo email, thru the htc widget, almost instantaneously, yet gmail doesnt come thru until i manually sync the gmail app. then during the course of the day, sometimes gmail messages get pushed right thru and other times not at all until i manually sync the app. meanwhile my yahoo mail comes thru flawlessly.
considering gmail is supposed to push and the htc widget does not, this is the opposite of what i expect. as far as settings, i have auto sync enabled for both the device and for the gmail app. while i always assume user error until proven otherwise, in this instance i think i have all the correct settings, which makes sense considering sometimes gmail does get pushed. its just erratic and unpredictable. anybody got any ideas what's going on here?
I have 3 Gmail accounts that are constantly syncing and its draining my battery. Where is the option to set accounts to manual? As in, I'll refresh when I care.
I've found the option for number of days to sync (1-All), but that's not what I want. Did they move this? I used to be able to find it...
This is my first post on the androidforums. I usually just read what other people wrote, but I can't seem to find a related post for my current problem.I date someone overseas in S. Korea, and since there's no way to send text msgs in Korean from here, I talk to her using activesync with a gmail account. She can check emails on her phone from Korea, and my phone sends me notification everytime I get an email from her. Basically it's same as texting except it allows me to type in Korean and doesn't cost a dime.For the reasons mentioned above, saving battery life isn't much of an option for me. I need to have activesync or gmail push running instantly. I tried using "check email every 5 minutes", but just imagine having to stay idle for 5 minutes everytime you text with your friends.
As of today, gmail push on android seems to work with 5 - 30 minutes delay (or manual refresh). However, Exchange Activesync will not even allow me to sync gmail (Different errors every time even though I'm putting the same information; gmail address,m.google.com as server address, username & password). I thought activesync just allows me to use "gmail push" on HTC mail app, so I don't quite understand why gmail app works (despite the lag), but activesync won't even let me sync my mail. Activesync last worked on 06/17/2010.Also, gmail push works with no lag when I'm on wifi. Is this normal?I'm starting to think there's a problem with the Sprint network or my phone. Gmail push also works instantly if my 3G bar is white. If it's greyed out, no emails come until the 3G bar turns white. Now I have to turn on AIM or MSN messenger to keep the data flowing and manually keep the 3G bar white. Then gmail push comes instantly. It's pretty ridiculous because the battery then lasts about 2-4 hours.
Just got my Motorola Droid. I've loaded up all the Google stuff as usual and all is well. What I'd like to do is create contacts from WORK and keep them separate from my personal stuff (GMail Contacts, etc). Can I, and if so, how? Secondly, is there a user guide for this beast other than the dinky booklet that came with it?

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Verizon Galaxy S3 with Cleanrom Seven installed stopped automatically syncing my gmail. I can manually refresh my mail, but it does not sync automatically despite the sync being enabled. I've also wiped data, removed my google account, and even done a factory reset without restoring any google data...and although it occasionally works temporarily, it always stops working. If a factory reset won't fix it, I don't know what to do anymore.

How do I set up e-mail push service for gmail to Dx? I have the account added and can manually go to the account and tell it to sync and it works. It never updates by itself. I went to settings> data manager> data delivery and "email and corporate sync is a darker color and I can not click it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy gmail won't push with Google sync in X10, definitely have no problem with the sync settings (all ticked), and tried to clear the data in Gmail and even a factory reset, but still no push. I then tried Moxier coming with the X10, surprisingly Gmail push works in it, and a very good function in Moxier is that you can customize the periods of pushing and polling mode within the day. But I still want to know why Google sync does not work in my X10, any other people have similar problem? I actually have a Moto Quench, which could push Gmail in the beginning, but suddenly stop pushing without a reason. Finally, can someone explain how the Gmail push works in Moxier. As Moxier is based on Microsoft Exchange server, I wonder how Microsoft Exchange server synchronizes with Google, is Gmail built based on Microsoft Exchange server?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Microsoft Outlook 2007 as my MAIN email and calendaring software. I will be accessing my mail and calendar via Outlook on my office PC for the vast majority of time.
My main email accounts are currently configured as POP3 but are also configured to leave copies of messages on the server for 30 days, which allows me to check new messages via my ISPs webmail when out of the office.
I have considered changing to IMAP for my main email account but have purposely avoided it up to now as I have a huge number of mail folders and messages my Outlook pst file is currently 7.2GB. A lot of those are for archive reference and I dont need to see them on other devices BUT, as I understand it, IMAP does not let me only select certain folders to mirror and sync between different devices (it must sync all of them) so I feel it would be unwieldy to use IMAP on my account. (If anyone knows of a way to set IMAP to only include specific folders please let me know!).
I do have a Google Mail account already, but rarely use it its just there as a back-up account. I�ve NOT as yet imported my Outlook contacts or calendar into my Google account.
Now I know that I can use HTC Sync to sync up my Contacts and Calendar, but what I�ve read suggests that the phone works best when you sync it with your Google account. I COULD of course import my Outlook Contacts and Calendar into my Google account, and I COULD also use my Gmail account to check mail from my main POP3 accounts. However, Im unsure about going down that route as Im worried that might confuse things, cause conflicts, or cause double-work for me when I update my contacts or calendar from Outlook or from Google. Are there possible problems with going down that route?
Secondly, Im very intrigued to have read that Gmail is more efficient for the phone as Ive read it works as a push email service. That is, I dont need to check my mail by doing a send/receive from my phone either manually or automatically at set intervals, but that Gmail will just automatically PUSH new emails to my phone as soon as they arrive. Is that correct?
If it is correct it sounds good, but does that mean my phone must be or will be permanently connected to the net? As I don�t use my mobile that much Im on a Pay-As You-Go service so need to ensure my phone is ONLY connecting to a data connection when I need it to. Will I be able to work-around this?
I know HTC Sync doesn't transfer Outlook Notes or Tasks. Has anyone found, or can recommend, an app that will do that for me?
Is anyone else seeing slower push from Gmail? Its taking 20-30 minutes for me to get my email on my droid over the last 2 days. I haven't downloaded any new software but have gone to getting email within minutes to getting email within 30 minutes if I am lucky.

View 42 Replies View RelatedBusy forum today, so I thought I would post this and try to get a response. Picked up the Droid/Motorola today and have been trying to figure out the Email App vs the GMail App and where I should tie my accounts in.
I have 4 GMail accounts, 2 Local ISP accounts, and 1 Exchange account. Setting up the Exchange account was pretty straight-forward and the phone put that account into the EMAIL application. The exchange account is also listed under the sync settings (since I assume exchange is pushed and therefore it gets labeled as a Sync On/Off ability). The local ISP accounts are POP and therefore also get placed into the EMAIL app due to them being pulled at my "every 5 minutes" setting.
The 4 GMail accounts are my real question. It basically comes down to this... Originally I setup the 4 accounts in the EMAIL app vs the GMAIL app; primarily because thats what I thought I needed to do. The problem I was was having though, is I wasn't receiving my email notifications and/or not receiving my email in a timely manner (push). I then figured out how to set them up in the GMAIL app and moved 2 of the accounts over there and ran some tests.
Emails sent to the 2 accounts in the GMAIL app were pushed to the device nearly instantly. Often times I would receive notification on the device before I got them on my desktop. The emails sent to the gmail accounts on the EMAIL app didn't notify me until the fetch timer (5 minutes) kicked in.
Now even though the auto-configure feature of the EMAIL app when setting up the gmail account defaulted to IMAP rather than POP, I wouldn't think that IMAP would be quicker. I guess it doesn't matter, it all depends on the fetch frequency in your settings.
The problem is, I like, almost love, the combined Inbox feature of the EMAIL application. I also like the account color-coding it does to make reading emails in the combined inbox easier. From what I can tell, the GMAIL app doesn't have such a feature and I need to Menu>>All Accounts>>Select Account>>Open Email to read an incoming message. I assume the GMail app takes advantage of Google Sync and therefore pushes your email to the device, but apparently this isn't available in the EMAIL app itself?
My Gmail wont push to my droid. I can have 100 emails and nothing will be sent to my phone. If I pull up Gmal on my phone, then hit refresh everything shows up. But I never receive a notification. Also, trying to send something from gmail is useless. Ill reply to an Email and it will sit in the outgoing folder for hours saying, "Sending". If I hit refresh while it sits in the outgoing folder then the email will send.
I have check all my settings and I cant figure out what my issue is.
I just got my D2 the other day and have it all setup, but something I've noticed differently from the D1 is that all my Outlook/Exchange e-mails take 5-10 minutes to be delivered even with the Push feature turned on. On the Droid 1, the messages were delivered instantly ometimes even before they arrived in my Outlook client at my desk.
I have it setup as a Corporate Sync account with all the same settings, but I feel like they have taken a step backwards with the Corporate Sync settings. I'm running 2.2.20 (rooted of course), but it's just a hit or miss when the messages come in. I did call VZW's tech line and the lady on the phone said there was some memo about this issue. She didn't mention if there was a work around, or if a fix is coming. It's almost as if the Sync button doesn't do anything.
Is there a reason that fs is not updating? I have 2 refresh it manually. Is there anyway to make it update on set intervals?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a strange problem with Push email on my HTC Desire. I can set this up no problem - email comes in but only manually. I cannot get the push to actually work. When I go into the send receive schedule I can set up the days/hours for peak off peak and push but regardless of what I set these to be, when I go back to the previous screen it always says the Schedule is Manual. I've tried setting up lots of variations from manual through timed to push but still the same. Net result is push never seems to happen - manual overrides my schedule. To pick up email I have to go into email and do a manual sync.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI can't take this stupid gmail sync issue anymore. I have been browsing web for the last 2 days and have tried everything short of throwing my phone against the wall. My MacbookPro will get the gmail and it will literally take an hour or so to get the mail on Droid (unless i refresh it myself). Isn't this a GOOGLE phone??? Of all the things gmail should be a breeze on this phone. I had a blackberry prior to Droid and email on Blackberry was never a problem. Infact I used to brag about how quick it was. Anyways I have been going through different forums and lots of people are having this similar problem. I hope we get a fix soon as this seems to be a software problem.

Is this normal or is there automatic feature that i must enable to have it alert me once an email is received?
Secondly, is it possible to set-up a third party email account, ex: Yahoo? I went through the notion of manually enter email account, but was unsucessful. It give me a msg that mailbox access is not supported for some tpes of yahoo mail accounts. Could this be an interference with gmail email, thus causing the problem? Even, using the manually setup option, it still fails to connect to my yahoo account.
I've started using 2.2, and it's going great, but I've noticed that when I read and archive an email on my phone, it's not reflecting it on the computer.Previously whenever I'd run into issues like this I'd clear the cache on the Gmail Storage in the Manage Applications menu, and it'd resync, but in 2.2 there's only the Gmail app, and the Clear Cache button is grayed out.

Can droid do the same thing? Also it let her sync her contacts with facebook profile. This put the facebook picture next to the contact, and found birtday for the calander. IS this somthing that droid can do?
