Motorola Droid :: Gmail Push Very Slow

Mar 18, 2010

Is anyone else seeing slower push from Gmail? Its taking 20-30 minutes for me to get my email on my droid over the last 2 days. I haven't downloaded any new software but have gone to getting email within minutes to getting email within 30 minutes if I am lucky.

HTC EVO 4G :: Exchange Activesync Will Not Sync With Gmail / Gmail Push Extremely Slow

Jun 22, 2010

This is my first post on the androidforums. I usually just read what other people wrote, but I can't seem to find a related post for my current problem.I date someone overseas in S. Korea, and since there's no way to send text msgs in Korean from here, I talk to her using activesync with a gmail account. She can check emails on her phone from Korea, and my phone sends me notification everytime I get an email from her. Basically it's same as texting except it allows me to type in Korean and doesn't cost a dime. For the reasons mentioned above, saving battery life isn't much of an option for me. I need to have activesync or gmail push running instantly. I tried using "check email every 5 minutes", but just imagine having to stay idle for 5 minutes everytime you text with your friends.

As of today, gmail push on android seems to work with 5 - 30 minutes delay (or manual refresh). However, Exchange Activesync will not even allow me to sync gmail (Different errors every time even though I'm putting the same information; gmail address,m.google.com as server address, username & password). I thought activesync just allows me to use "gmail push" on HTC mail app, so I don't quite understand why gmail app works (despite the lag), but activesync won't even let me sync my mail. Activesync last worked on 06/17/2010.Also, gmail push works with no lag when I'm on wifi. Is this normal?I'm starting to think there's a problem with the Sprint network or my phone. Gmail push also works instantly if my 3G bar is white. If it's greyed out, no emails come until the 3G bar turns white. Now I have to turn on AIM or MSN messenger to keep the data flowing and manually keep the 3G bar white. Then gmail push comes instantly. It's pretty ridiculous because the battery then lasts about 2-4 hours.

HTC EVO 4G :: Gmail And GVoice Push Is Slow / Delayed?

Jun 11, 2010

I know how to use google and search, but I still like personal feedback incase I missed something.Rooted with Unrevoked. Overclock Widget battery life tweak and the google talk/flickr/other battery tweaks. I'm going on 16 hours today with normal usage and the tweaks - Anyhow, yesterday and prior to that gmail and gvoice push was instant, but today and last night it's been slow and often never even comes unless I go to the app and update it manually. I do have ATK installed, but turned the auto kill to off and only use it when the bloat-sprint apps get running. So don't flame about that. Also, I changed the notification sound on each account and now I hear the set sound (quagmire app) and the android default after - when a push actually comes through.I can't find any settings that I unchecked that would make it not update as fast or at all (been back though all of them), but perhaps something else is screwy - I do have gmail and gvoice tabs open on 1 to 2 computers all day, if that would do it.And I guess I can't use data (unless it's wifi or 4G) while I'm in a phone call? Which really sucks because I like to do data related stuff while I'm talking to family and people who just blaber on and on. Miss that about my iPhone but other than that, I'm sold on android - 9 people I know got the evo already.

Motorola Droid :: Email App Vs GMail App And Push - Pull Notifications

Nov 6, 2009

Busy forum today, so I thought I would post this and try to get a response. Picked up the Droid/Motorola today and have been trying to figure out the Email App vs the GMail App and where I should tie my accounts in.

I have 4 GMail accounts, 2 Local ISP accounts, and 1 Exchange account. Setting up the Exchange account was pretty straight-forward and the phone put that account into the EMAIL application. The exchange account is also listed under the sync settings (since I assume exchange is pushed and therefore it gets labeled as a Sync On/Off ability). The local ISP accounts are POP and therefore also get placed into the EMAIL app due to them being pulled at my "every 5 minutes" setting.

The 4 GMail accounts are my real question. It basically comes down to this... Originally I setup the 4 accounts in the EMAIL app vs the GMAIL app; primarily because thats what I thought I needed to do. The problem I was was having though, is I wasn't receiving my email notifications and/or not receiving my email in a timely manner (push). I then figured out how to set them up in the GMAIL app and moved 2 of the accounts over there and ran some tests.

Emails sent to the 2 accounts in the GMAIL app were pushed to the device nearly instantly. Often times I would receive notification on the device before I got them on my desktop. The emails sent to the gmail accounts on the EMAIL app didn't notify me until the fetch timer (5 minutes) kicked in.

Now even though the auto-configure feature of the EMAIL app when setting up the gmail account defaulted to IMAP rather than POP, I wouldn't think that IMAP would be quicker. I guess it doesn't matter, it all depends on the fetch frequency in your settings.

The problem is, I like, almost love, the combined Inbox feature of the EMAIL application. I also like the account color-coding it does to make reading emails in the combined inbox easier. From what I can tell, the GMAIL app doesn't have such a feature and I need to Menu>>All Accounts>>Select Account>>Open Email to read an incoming message. I assume the GMail app takes advantage of Google Sync and therefore pushes your email to the device, but apparently this isn't available in the EMAIL app itself?

Motorola Droid :: Gmail Wont Push To Phne / Reason Of This?

Feb 27, 2010

My Gmail wont push to my droid. I can have 100 emails and nothing will be sent to my phone. If I pull up Gmal on my phone, then hit refresh everything shows up. But I never receive a notification. Also, trying to send something from gmail is useless. Ill reply to an Email and it will sit in the outgoing folder for hours saying, "Sending". If I hit refresh while it sits in the outgoing folder then the email will send.

I have check all my settings and I cant figure out what my issue is.

Motorola Droid :: Gmail Delivery Slow

Mar 4, 2010

Anyone else noticed the gmail delivery from the Droid sometimes takes days? It doesn't always happen, and doesn't seem to matter the domain to which you are sending, even other gmail accounts. For example, I sent an email on a Friday, and it wasn't recieved until the following Monday. A friend of mine, another Droid user, sent an email to me and I didn't get it for three days. He too says he's noticed delayed mail delivery from the Droid. I've also noticed that sometimes the gmail icon opens a state of gmail from several days ago. I have to refresh the screen to get to 'current' data, even though I used gmail daily on the Droid.

Motorola Droid X :: Turn Auto Sync Off - Application Enable Push Email For Gmail Account

Jul 30, 2010

I have been reading up on the concept of push email, and how it's supposed to be a huge battery saver (since in theory, the phone would only receive a notification of an e-mail, and not the actual e-mail itself). I have also been reading up on how the "Gmail" app's version of Push email is not the same as other Push e-mail software, in that it requires the phone to "Sync" whenever an e-mail hits the Gmail server. As a result, whenever I would try to turn Auto Sync off (supposedly to save battery), I would no longer be able to get my e-mail notifications in real time.

With this in mind, I attempted to find another application that would enable me to use Push email for my Gmail account, without having to "Sync" with Gmail's server. After messing around for a bit, I found that I could manually input my Gmail account info (Incoming Server, Outgoing Server, Username, Pass, Etc.) into the stock "Email" app that comes with the X. Once this was done, I was able to enable "Data Push" in the "Email" app's Settings menu (as well turning off any Polling intervals). By doing this, I was able to receive new Gmail notifications through the "E-mail" app, even when Auto Sync had been turned off. As a bonus, I received them around 15 seconds faster than I did with the "Gmail" app's version of Push.....

HTC Droid Eris : Gmail Push Sometimes Works

Dec 15, 2009

My emails are showing up in the gmail app at sporadic intervals; sometimes they show up immediately while other times I only receive the email if I refresh within the app itself. I noticed this after I manually did the update last Friday on my Eris. Emails are showing up rather quickly on 3G, but hardly at all on wifi. I'm testing this by sending myself emails to the gmail account from a non-gmail account on the laptop. I saw over in the Moto Droid forum that some users there are experiencing gmail push slowness/problems.

HTC Droid Eris :: Any Way To Set Gmail So That It Doesn't Push As Often

Feb 28, 2010

I just got my Droid Eris on Friday so I'm still trying to figure this thing out.

-Is there any way to set Gmail so that it doesn't push as often? I use that as my primary email account so it seems like my phone is constantly notifying me. I want the option to check Gmail without having to worry about my battery dying b/c of constant notifications.

-I've been looking around and I noticed some of you have Twitter as a full screen widget. How can I add that? I've tried peep and tweetcaster but I don't really like either of them.

-This may sound like a dumb question, but what's the best/easy way to make outgoing calls? I find it to be a PITA to find my contacts when trying to make a call.

-On that same token is there a better app for texting?

-How do I delete an app that I've installed?

Android : Push Gmail Without The Gmail App

I use the Gmail app for my business email. My email is pushed, and all is well. I have a personal Gmail account that I set up with the stock HTC email software. It just polls at whatever time frame I tell it. I don't like that. I want it to push.

Any way to make it push?

I'm not interested in forwarding my personal email to business, by the way.

HTC EVO 4G : No Push Gmail After Root

Jun 7, 2010

I flashed flipz rooted rom onto my EVO. Everything is working great except my email.

The only way I can get my email is to manually refresh from within the gmail app. Before flashing this rom, all my email was being pushed to my phone without any type of interaction, normally, it would reach my phone before it got to my desktop browser.

I've double checked every setting and it's all the way it was before. Even double checked it against my hero and everything looks copacetic. Has anybody else had this problem or possibly any clues as to what i can do or try?

HTC Incredible :: Push Email W/o Gmail

May 3, 2010

I've had my Incredible for almost a week now and I still havent brought myself to set up my Gmail to POP my work and Hotmail accounts. I just don't care for the Gmail system or client for Android OS.

I DO have a Gmail account (pretty much forced into it) but my main accounts are Hotmail and my own custom domain (non-exchange).

Yes, i'm coming from a Blackberry and have been spoiled with the best Push technology out there. No, i will not go back to Blackberry, so please spare the suggestions.

What i am wondering is if there is any 3rd party app out there that will Pop your email acct(s) and push the mail to your phone to either the stock HTC Mail app or it's own 3rd party client.

I've seen K-9 - but not sure if this is what i'm looking for.

I've seen Touchdown - but this appears to be only for Exchange.

Can either of these applications provide Push Email to Android or are there any others out there? If not, does anyone know of any on the horizon?

HTC EVO 4G :: Gmail Won't Push And Update To Froyo!

Aug 10, 2010

I know a lot of people have been having this problem AFTER updating to Froyo, but I haven't done the update yet and my Gmail just quit pushing about 2 days ago. I've had my Evo a little over a month and this is the first time this has been a problem. It's not even that it's just delayed, it will not push AT ALL without a manual refresh. Sometimes even the manual refresh doesn't bring up all of the most recent stuff.

I've tried hard and soft resets.
Deleted account and reinstated account.
I only have one Google account.
Google Calendar works.
GTalk is logged in and working.

Again, I know this has been a post-Froyo problem for many and Google is addressing it (according to another thread on here), but what about for those of us still on Eclair?

HTC Incredible : ActiveSync For Push Gmail

Apr 30, 2010

I haven't seen an follow up to this thread about using ActiveSync to get Gmail push to the HTC Mail app.

Just to share my experience, I setup ActiveSync for Gmail using the instructions posted in that thread, then setting the frequency to "as items arrive". I now get my Gmail litterally within 5-10 seconds of actually receiving it. In fact, I just tested it out by sending myself an email on my computer, and my phone beeped within 5 seconds.

Looking at my phone without any extra processes running, it doesn't seem to be "scanning" or trying to pull email every so often. Maybe I'm wrong, but this seems like a legit real time Gmail "push" to my phone. I'll have more info on battery life over the weekend, but for now this works great.
