Motorola Droid :: Can't Get Into Recovery Mode After Root
Sep 10, 2010
I think where I messed up was I then installed ROM Manager from the market to try to get overclocked. Before I did any searching or downloading for kernels, I tried to do a backup using ROM Managers Clockwork utility. It constantly crashed my phone; I didn't get one successful backup. So I was going to try using SPRecovery, but when I turn off my phone, then turn it on holding the X key, the Motorola logo stays there forever, blinks, and then reappears again. I have to release the X key for it to get passed the logo, but then it just boots normally.I've already uninstalled ROM Manager, but do I need to do anything different so I can use SPRecovery?I'm thinking my phone is confused as to which backup/recovery mode to launch.Did I just mess up my phone?I'm a total noob at this and feel like a moron.

Reading the forums I haven't seen any actual conformation that we can get into the recovery mode or at least that I understand. Is there any apps that we can use to achieve this? ( Like with root "easyroot")

Ok, I just bought an HTC Acquire with Android Version 2.3.4 HTC Sense 3.0 Software number 1.26.557.9 Kernel 2.6.35.10
When I reboot it into recovery mode it says:
***Locked***
Kingdom PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.22.0000
RADIO-1.11.00.0903
eMMC-boot

I have tried to root this phone using Gingerbreak, Revolutionary, Z4root, and a few others. When I search on Google or the XDA website I can't find absolutely anything about an HTC Acquire. It's like the internet thinks the phone doesn't exist? I recently upgraded to it from my HTC Desire CDMA Bravo-c that I had rooted, flashed a custom rom, custom kernel, custom radio, the works.

i originally rooted my phone using the sprecovery method. i also loaded up chevyno1's 1100lv kernal that same way.i was told to use rom manager to load up a new ROM in order to make it easier on myself to go back to the stock ROM should i choose to.i installed rommanager, and applied the new rom. nothing happened. it didn't load, my phone rebooted normally. i tried manually going into recovery and nothing happens. the big "m" stays on there for a while, blinks and stays on there a bit longer. it will stay there as long as im holding "x" down.can i uninstall rom manager and fix this issue? any other way?

So I have stock android 2.1 installed on my phone. I haven't gotten the OTA update. I tried to manually update, but recovery mode doesn't seem like its working - I see the triangle/question mark but there is also a phone laying down right next to it. No combination of keys will get me to a menu to apply the update.zip. I tried flashing back to 2.01 and 2.0 and updating from there - but the recovery mode stayed the same. Does anyone know where to find the full Froyo stock .SBF files?

I rooted my android device with froyo yesterday. I installed the rom manager and its associated programs. Then I downloaded and installed the Cyanogen 6.0 mod. I was able to install the mod yesterday but I did not wipe my data clean which made the startup screen loop. I restored my phone, and now I can not reinstall the Cyanogen 6.0 mod. I go into the rom manager and select download, I select to wipe my data and to backup the system, then I restart in the Clock Work Recovery Mod. Once there I can not find the Cyanogen 6.0 to flash. I have been trying to get this to work for the past 24 hours!

So the other day I rooted my phone and it just keeps restarting on me. Cant get into recovery mode or anything. Now I gotta send this phone back to Verizon and I don't want to send it back with it being rooted cause I don't want to get charged for the phone. Now my question is how can I mess up my phone so Verizon don't know that I rooted my phone. This may sound dumb but I kinda need a way to fry it or something like that.

I've been reading and I've downloaded the ROM Manager from the Marketplace. I've also downloaded a ROM to install. I have tried to boot my phone into recovery mode (pressing X while powering back on) and all I get to is a screen with the exclamation mark and a phone under it.

I cannot get SPRecovery to recognize my DROID, thus I cannot install it (I have tried every tip known to man). Can I just rename a ROM to update.zip and do it the way I updated to Froyo? Why does this or does this not work and what are the consequences?

Ok i have not been able to find any answers what so ever regarding the people that can not find the backup/restore option after entering the recovery mode. I have recently rooted using the new z4root application. I get a skull and crossbones supper user app, and was wondering if that means its different than the one with the ninja icon that everyone else gets.
Anyways, When i go to make a nandroid back up, i follow the steps to the letter, but when i get to the recovery menu, my options stop after the wipe baseband data option. there is absolutely nothing else there that says anything about backup/restore option everyone seems to be screaming about. Its not there!
Now please can someone figure out a solution to this problem?
My recovery looks like as follows: Android system recovery <3e>
Use d-pad to highlight: center to select.
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe baseband data

Just FYI in case anyone wants to know: For download mode, with the phone turned off, fold the number 1 key on the QWERTY keyboard and the power button simultaneously For recovery mode, with the phone turned off, hold Volume Down, CAmera, and Power simultaneously. You navigate with volume UP/DOWN, select with HOME, Menu toggles to "Manual Mode", whatever that it.

I have a droid eris that's flashed to cricket & everything works except my apps. I searched around the forum & found Pkopaleks thread on how to finish the full flash to get working apps. The store I got my phone flashed at said it was impossible to get working apps because the apps are verizons (lies) & now I'm disappointed their not working. My question is that do all stores that flash phones root phones before the flash? If so will going to recovery mode and loading pkopaleks cricket file ruin what has already been done? Lastly if the store didn't have to root to flash how will I fix this problem?

I hit the top button. Flash Clockworkmod recovery or what ever it said. I then backed up my Current ROM. I then downloaded Cyanogen v6.0.0 cr2. It downloaded and rebooted my phone. But It went to a screen with a Triangle w/ exclamation and a phone under it. I then hit the up vol button and camera, and now I'm at the Android system recovery page and I don't know what to do next. These are my options reboot system now apply sdcard:update.zip wipe data/factory rest wipe cache partition wipe base band data. I did click to backup current ROM and wipe data and cache.

First off let me say that I was wrong about this issue. Its not an issue with Easy root it is just something built into android. So I apologize to anyone I argued this subject with but specifically Patch. Its also not an issue with rom manager. This applys to users that after flashing a custom recovery they can boot into it once but the next time you try to boot into recovery it has reverted to stock.
This mostly happens to users of easy root or users that use my guide for rooting using Linux
So for the fix.
Download this file and place it in the root of your sd card.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7223192/install-recovery.sh
Download Terminal Emulator from the market. The one by the dev Jack Palevich.
Open it and type the following commands.
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
dd if=/sdcard/install-recovery.sh of=/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
chmod 550 /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
sync
after that just flash the custom recovery of your choice and you should be good to go.
I tested this on my phone and another user tested it for me and it worked for both of us. If anyone has an issue let me know. This issue is so sporadic that its hard to have people test the fix.
