Dec 2, 2009
I created 3 folders to organize and condense my direct dial/message contacts. This morning, I tried to open one of the folders, and it will not open. The other two open fine.

How do you add a icon to a home screen for one touch direct dial to a contact? Used to be easy to do with the original droid. I can't find anything on the X. (running launcher pro).

I found a way to get a Direct Dial shortcut using the free app Folder Organizer Lite. Long press the homescreen (or setup in Launcher Pro Dock) and select Shortcut, Folder Organizer Item, Direct Call, choose from your contact list. For the Direct Text using Folder Organizer Lite again. Long press the homescreen (or setup in Launcher Pro Dock) and select Shortcut, Folder Organizer Item, Direct Text, choose from your contact list.

I have been trying out new ROM's and it's been fun. Here is my biggest headache with doing this. I have about 10 contacts that are Direct Dial (speed dial to the rest of the world). What I do is put them in a folder as a shortcut to prevent accidental dialing. But I have to constantly redo this set up. Is there a way to save a folder and it's contents, such as direct dial numbers, to my sd card and bring it back with each new ROM or launcher? Starred folder doesn't work for me as it's more clicking when I am driving. The app Direct Dial still takes several clicks.

I have made a folder with shortcuts to direct dial. This way I can have my one touch favorite phone list.
How do I arrange the icons in the folder ? I was able to change the folder name, move icons into it, and delete icons from it. But can not find out how to move them around.

I'm working on an Android app and it's up to 17 classes. I want to start organizing the .java class files into a more intuitive layout.
Say I want to have a source code directory called "views". When I create that directory using Eclipse, it changes my package name to com.xyz to com.xyz.views.
Since this package name (com.xyz.views) is different than the rest of my app (com.xyz) is this going to cause me to do a lot of extra work to link those packages? Will this cause problems with the fact that Android Market looks at the package name and is more or less locked to the package name?

Can we organize all of our apps into folders in the app tray? I know that you can do it and have them displayed on the home page, but I want to do it on the app tray itself. Can I put all my shopping apps together, my sports apps together, etc.? I don't want to change the home pages, just the app tray.

I tried a couple of the programs that allow you extra home screens but like some people, I found out running into more troubles.
I decided to create folders and name them on my home page and then put various shortcuts in each folder. I have one for games, one for utilities one for multimedia etc.
My question is, how can I get these to be listed in alpabetical order?
Or is there a way that I can organize the apps in the order that I want them (maybe a list view vs. having the icons listed)?
I realize I could delete every icon in the folder and then manually add them in alphabetical order BUT if I find a new app and move it to a folder, it always puts the icon at the bottom of the list.

I don't mean folders on the home screen, look at the attached imaged if you don't understand. I want to know if it's possible to organize those instead of having to go through multiple pages.

Is it not possible to organize bookmarks into folders, eg News, Tech, Accounts, Retailers? Surely there is a means by which this can be done with the stock browser, no?

I'm looking for the source code of the Direct Dial Widget (preferred from 4.1.1), I've looked and found the icon of the direct dial, in the contact.apk, it is - ic_launcher_shortcut_directdial.png, then I've looked in the manifest, and saw that it is used:
<activity-alias android:name="alias.DialShortcut"
android:targetActivity=".activities.ContactSelecti onActivity"
android:label="@string/shortcutDialContact"
android:icon="@mipmap/ic_launcher_shortcut_directdial"
android:enabled="@*android:bool/config_voice_capable">
But I can't find the source code, I think this is only the shortcut for creating the widget, but not the widget....

In ICS, when I make a shortcut with Direct Dial, it shows the label "Home" over the bottom-half of my contact's picture... 99% of my contacts only have one number anyway, so the "Home" title is useless & only blocks half their picture. Is there a way to remove this?

Does anyone know of an app to improve contact searching in the Phone app? I would love a BlackBerry-like interface where the phone opens and you can just start typing a contact name (on dialpad) (or any contact data to select and narrow a contact search? Instead you have to perform an actual search or scroll - what a pain! If nothing exists - who's willing to build it?

When I place a direct dial picture on a home screen, it shows their face and a small phone icon. (Covering one corner of their face) What the heck? My other direct dials are not like that.

I've been looking for a widget that will allow me to direct dial (direct text a bonus!) from home screen. I've looked around online and there doesn't seem to be anything that suits me well. I tried making the "direct dial" shortcuts by long-pressing, but those icons are small and have a little "M" and image of Android which obscures the photo icon. I found the perfect app while searching for other stuff. I've attached the image to this post. Does anyone know what the app is that allows me to place those 2x1 icons onto the screen?

Doesn't this phone support the direct dial shortcut on the desktop? I am trying to add contacts on my desktop that I would like 1-touch access to but the only way to add a contact is using the shortcut to contact. Clicking on that opens up the contact details and then I have to click on the number I want to call and select call or message. Is there any way to add a particular number for a particular contact directly onto the home screen? I know that the MT3G used to have a shortcut to direct dial option. Is there anyway to get that on this phone

Anyways, on every other phone I've ever had, text messaging had a regular group of folders such as Inbox, Sent, Deleted, Outbox, etc. I do not see this on my Eris. I can see the new ones of course but not sure where my sent items are (if anywhere?) and where my deleted items go (permanently deleted?). I've had a couple of texts deleted that I needed later on but couldn't find so it's irritating enough to start searching for answers!

As I am a new user I do have a question. When I try to compose a text message in the Messaging app my contacts do not show up whether I search by phone number or by name. My contacts are synced with my phone through my gmail account. I am able to see my contacts as well as go into the contacts app and send a text from there. Is there something that I am doing wrong or perhaps just not getting?

So this may be a silly question. Folders are great for organizing like-apps, like Games, Utilities, chat etc. I know how to rename folders but is there any way to organize apps once they're IN a folder....or can you only do it by the order they were dropped in there?

Now that we've had our phones for a few weeks, the Application list is probably growing quite a bit. I know mine is! I wonder, how do you all organize your applications? Do you just put a few frequently used icons on your home screen and left the rest in the drawer? Do you create folders for different categories (Games, Utils, Social, etc) and place apps in there? Do you just load up your 3 home screens (or more if you have a home replacement) with EVERYTHING from the drawer?

Seems to be such a simple thing, but I can't figure it out. I switched between thumbnail and list mode, tried setup in each one and don't see any options. In list most, I can tap and hold over the link to bring up options, but there is no option to delete or to move.
