On the Motorola Droid, when I go to messaging and click to compose a new text, there is no way to access my contacts. I have to go to a contact first or to past threads.

when i go into my sms text compose new text message and i start to type the name of a contact it only sometimes gives me the name of the contact to click on but most of the contacts in my phone book wont show up idk if this is a setting but it is really frusterating and i cant seem to figure it out i have to go threw my contact list to choose someone and then send sms text.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAm now onto my second Sony Ericsson Xperia phone, as I am unable to compose a new SMS message. ALthough I have imported all contacts from SD memory card, and they appear in my contacts and if somebody is to call or SMS me their name appears but when I go to send a new message no names appears just lets me type their name but does not allow to send the text as there is no number?
I really like this phone and do not want to have to get a 3rd one or change phones altogether.
SIM card does not work effectiviely either. SOme numbers come up with a search but I almost have to type the full name - cannot just enter say "D" and all names appear under that letter.
Vodafone and Sony Ericsson are unable to provide any further advise as I have completed factory data resets, un and reinstall software updates. Sony Ericsson has said they have not had another feedback like this?
Is there anyway to compose in gmail like the email app? Email app gives you the option to do bold, italisize, underline, and even bullets...I would think gmail would be superiorr in Driod phones.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm debating whether to go with the Inc (shipped to my house on Friday) or the D-X. I so much want to choose the DX b/c of the larger screen but to be honest, it seems like the usability of the Inc is a a bit better (much closer to iPhone experience than D-X) as the scrolling b/w menus is much smoother than the D-X
Separately, I tried accessing the chicago tribune website on both phones - the DX only allows me to access the mobile version but the Inc allows me to access the full desktop version. When I tried clicking on desktop icon at the bottom of the Tribune website on the DX, it still points me to the mobile website. Any idea why this is the case?
I have been using the default browser on a droid X to access a website on my web-server for weeks but 3 days ago the website became unavailable (showing the "Web page not available" message). Every other domain on the internet seems to work just fine. I then found out that other websites hosted on my server could not load on the droid. I checked the Apache log files and determined that no inbound http connects were being received on my server.
So it seems like a connection was not being established between my droid X and my server using the default browser at all. Then I downloaded a Ping (icmp) app off the market and pinged my server IP and bang, a response. Then I pinged the domain name and received a quick response, meaning that both a connection was possible and that DNS was resolving correctly.
Remembering that Opera browsers use compression and route requests through their servers I thought this could bypass any gateway or proxy Verizon might have in place. The website loaded quickly and completely on the Opera Mini browser. I called Verizon technical support and got through (a bunch of ads) to a nice agent who could not identify any problems on his terminal. He helpfully navigated to my website on his droid X and it worked perfectly. I think he said that he was on the east coast so at least its working there. But there was nothing else he could do so...............
As I am a new user I do have a question. When I try to compose a text message in the Messaging app my contacts do not show up whether I search by phone number or by name. My contacts are synced with my phone through my gmail account. I am able to see my contacts as well as go into the contacts app and send a text from there. Is there something that I am doing wrong or perhaps just not getting?

I was using the hero before and you could easily do it via vcard.For example, I want to send Mr Jones a contact number of a client, I can easily SMS him through contacts the client's contact numbers(emails and whatnots).However, this feature seems lacking on the Milestone. View 3 Replies View RelatedI haven't seen anything quite like this and am unable to identify this issue on the open forums here so thought I would reach out. I do apologize if I missed it somewhere so if its out there please feel to direct me there.Picked up the HTC Eris about 2 weeks ago. I've started noticing a very strange issue as of last week. Using the stock messaging app I keep all my text strings with my various contacts. So let's say I have 7 different text strings in there now all from 7 different people. Now, for whatever reason, If I receive a new text message from a new person it will throw that new person's text into an existing text string of one of the other contacts rather than creating its own separate text string. Make sense? Just mixes it in there. So for instance, If I have a previous string from me to my wife it will throw a new text from my mom into my wife's existing text string. If I attempt to reply to that text sent from my mom that went into my wife's text string then my wife will receive the message. And its totally random. I've noticed this with 3 different contacts. So its just not one specific contact. And its literally like 6 or 7 people. Its not like I have a huge backup of text messages.
Now as I've mentioned its only about 2.5 weeks old. I don't throw alot of apps on there (I think I have 6) and I've rebooted this thing twice. I've taken it to Verizon and the guy there didn't know what to make of it. Said I might have a defective phone or possibly try a factory reset. He also mentioned waiting for the update and if its not corrected by then I can get an Eris replacement. Anyway, I wasn't ready to switch it out yet cause I love this phone and am hoping someone out there has maybe seen this issue and maybe can tell me what the heck is going on. Thanks in reading this and I look forward to any possible suggestions.
I seem to be having a sync issue with my Droid.When I add a contact to my phone, it doesn't sync into "My contacts" in Gmail; it'll sync into "All contacts". So, a couple of questions:
1) How can I get the phone to add new contacts created on my Droid into "My contacts" in Gmail?
2) I'm trying to understand the point of "All contacts". Why does Gmail want to keep a list of anyone that I've ever sent an email to? Otherwise, it'll be simple enough to just merge the two groups and call it a day.(Note: When I bought my Droid I did NOT have the VZW sales person transfer my contacts or any data from my old Blackberry to my Droid. I used Google Sync on my BB and synced my contacts from my BB to Gmail, then when I got the Droid, it automatically pulled my contacts from Gmail.)(FWIW, yes, I did a search and found two great threads: http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting/15042-how-do-i-push-droid-contacts-back-gmails-my-contacts.html and http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/15069-contacts-dont-really-synchronize.html but I have a different situation than most of those guys and I'd actually prefer to sift through and merge a couple of contacts from "All contacts" to "My contacts" every once in a while than deal with a backup and factory reset.)

View 4 Replies View RelatedI can format the card from the phone. I can save pictures to the card from the camera app. The phone sees the card properly. When I plug in the pc usb cable I select "disk drive" but the drive doesn't show up on the computer. Sometimes I see the drive (Drive G) pop up for a split second then disappear. Sometimes it never appears. I always get the "choose a connection type" message and select disk drive. The notification bar shows "USB DEBUGGING." I have tried it with USB debugging off or on. I have also installed HTC SYnc but that didn't help (and doesn't connect). Computer says "USB device not recognized." It always worked fine with my MyTouch 3G. There is nothing amiss in device manager.

I have the MSL's for both, I type ##data# into the dialer, it brings up EPST, I choose edit and type in MSL. Always get a check password error on both phones. Used same procedure with MSL on Hero before 2.1 update, but not since. Used it to change cycle slot index to receive calls faster on my old Hero, went from 2.5-3.5 rings to 2 rings with a change to just 1 (default is 2, lowest is 0.) My EVO seems to be ringing on 1.5-2 rings, not too bad, but if it can get better I want to try it. Anyone else unable to access EPST with their MSL #? Anyone else able to with a different method? Both Best Buy and Sprint customer service have given me the same MSL #, and both have confirmed it is not the other 1 time use password (I forget that acronym)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got my DroidX on 7/15 and on 7/16 linked all my phone contacts who have facebook to a facebook contact via social networking. I kike how the phone sets the picture, I like that in the contact entry it shows me thier status on facebook. What I don't like is that when I open up a contac that is both a phone contact and a facebook contact and I tap the facebook icon on the contact screen I get 3 options (view profile, write on wall, and poke). If I open up a contact that is only facebook and tap that same Icon I get 4 options (view profile, message, write on wall, and poke). Is there some reason linking the facebook contact to a phone contact needs to remove that option? I'd like to be able to send a facebook message from the phone to any contact as easy as I can send a text message.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got my HTC Hero this morning - its my first smartphone and I am very impressed. I saw some fairly damning reviews online, but when I trialled it I was hooked. Superb device A+ so far, except for this little problem which I think is probably linked to my Laptop rather than the Hero... I have plugged it into my Laptop via USB. Vista found the drivers, installed all well and good. However, if I click on Removable Disk (F I get an error stating that there is no disk in the drive and please insert one. I've tried re-installing the drivers using the ones available online, and nothing. I've also installed HTC Sync which simply doesn't find the device despite being plugged in. The Hero reckons it is connected, complete with USB symbol and HTC sync symbol. So what have I done wrong? I've tried all the obvious ones - reinstalling drivers, different USB port, turning both off and on again (many times), uninstalling, reinstalling etc etc....

Please try again. Then the " Force close " box pops up. She took it to the Sprint store and they were stumped, the phone says that it is connected even though it is not!

It didn't gave me permissions to create the directory "files" in phone memory ( data/data/package name/) (2) any how i created the (data/data/package name//files/album) structure through coding but now i am unable to do "cd files" I need to push some image files in the folder data/data/package name// files/album.
