Android : Need Software To Organize Contacts On Phone
Jun 13, 2010
Is there any PC-software which I can use to organize contacts on my phone? Is there any possibility to copy all contacts from my SIM card (comes from another old handy) to the htc desire? Further, I only want to show up contacts on the phone but I always want my desire to store a copy of each contact on the SIM card...

I created 3 folders to organize and condense my direct dial/message contacts. This morning, I tried to open one of the folders, and it will not open. The other two open fine.

Im starting my first Android project so im still kind of n00b and not sure about how to organize some things to have a clean code :P
I have my first screen with a spinner and a button. When you click the button i catch the spinner selection and the app will move to a new screen (Depending on the spinner selection).
So now, i have 2 more .xml for the layout of the new screens, but i dont know if i must continue coding in the same Activitie/.java file, or if i should make a new Activitie and in that case, if i should create this new Activitie into another .java file os stay using the same..
Im not sure if i explained myself right xD. Anyway, if anyone need more info, just tell me and i will try to make it better.

It would interesting to see how people are organizing their desktop/home screen. I have read a few people's random forum posts but this might help some of us learn a new trick or tip.

I'm working on an Android app and it's up to 17 classes. I want to start organizing the .java class files into a more intuitive layout.
Say I want to have a source code directory called "views". When I create that directory using Eclipse, it changes my package name to com.xyz to com.xyz.views.
Since this package name (com.xyz.views) is different than the rest of my app (com.xyz) is this going to cause me to do a lot of extra work to link those packages? Will this cause problems with the fact that Android Market looks at the package name and is more or less locked to the package name?

I just got a hold of an HTC Evo and well my app really looked bad(What a shame my part But the app looked great on another device I got Xperia X10.The differences: Evo: 480x800 X10: 480x854.Currently I have only 2 layouts that need special attention. My questions... What is the best way to properly handle screens resolution/sizes/types? I thought I would create the following resource folders: res/layout res/layout-800x480 res/layout-854x480.Does anyone know if this is the best way to handle specific layouts for specific screens?Doing it by resolution size?

Is there any way out there to organize your apps menu other than by alphabetical order? When you have a heaps of different apps and are always trying new ones like me it's not always easy to find that one that has a name that relates nothing to its function.Ideally I'd like some way of making categories in my app menu and and grouping all my utility icons, all my game icons etc.

I tried a couple of the programs that allow you extra home screens but like some people, I found out running into more troubles.
I decided to create folders and name them on my home page and then put various shortcuts in each folder. I have one for games, one for utilities one for multimedia etc.
My question is, how can I get these to be listed in alpabetical order?
Or is there a way that I can organize the apps in the order that I want them (maybe a list view vs. having the icons listed)?
I realize I could delete every icon in the folder and then manually add them in alphabetical order BUT if I find a new app and move it to a folder, it always puts the icon at the bottom of the list.

I retrieve a JSON list of contacts from a social network site. It contains firstname, lastname, displayname, data1, data2, etc...
What is the efficient way to quickly lookup my local phone contacts database and "match" them based on their name. Since there are firstname, lastname and displayname this can vary.
What do you think, how can the best match be achieved?
Also how do I make sure I don't parse for each JSON item the whole database I want to avoide having JSON_COUNT x MOBILE COUNT steps

When I switched to the Samsung Fascinate from a previous non-smart phone, I transferred all of my contacts from the phone over. I think in the setup somewhere I chose to convert my contacts to Google contacts. That was really confusing at first, because I didn't know what it did, and didn't even remember I had done that until recently. I'd like to get the contacts back to phone contacts (not Google contacts) for multiple reasons, which I won't bother listing for now. So, does anyone know how to UN-convert or re-convert Google contacts back into phone contacts? I really don't want to have to recreate all of the phone contacts, because I've got a LOT of them. I would remove my Google account from the phone, but I worry that would remove all of my contacts completely, which wouldn't help me.

I own a HTC hero (Orange). With talks of android updates becoming available, there seems to be a mad rush to back up everything so that nothing is lost on the update. There are many ways of doing this, but one of the most common problems, is that people have their contacts saved as 'Phone' contacts and not 'Google' contacts. This means that they will not sync with Google mail. There was no contact export available to me (I think because my firmware was still 1.5).
This seems to be a solution that will solve the problem without having to write out every single contact number in Google mail.
1. Enter android market.
2. Search 'Contact sync'
3. Download/Install this application.
4. Run the application
5. All contacts will be turned from 'Phone' contacts to 'Google' Contacts
6. These contacts will then be synchronized with your Google mail
This means that if your contacts are lost on your phone at any point (eg. an update), they can easily be 'Exported' back to your phone through Google mail.

how y'all organize your music on the Eris. I have been just clicking and dragging from the computer to the SD card in a folder created "music." I would like to group all my songs into genres (blues, rock, etc.). The only way I've been able to do this is by adding songs to a playlist on the phone, which is way to time consuming. I have yet to sync my desktop w/ my computer. Would this make organizing any easier?

I got my DINC and I love this phone. One issue I'd like some help with. How can I manage and organize my photos. I'd like to be able to create some albums and seperate my photos so I can find them easier rather than having to go through them all to find a single shot. I know albums can be created some how, becasue in the users manual there is a page that shows a screen shot of the phone. This screen shot has a list of albums that have been created.

I've thought of starting to develop an application and one of its features is that it downloads some content (images, files, etc) and organize them into folders in accordance with site they were downloaded.
Well, the question is... How do Android organize your files? In Windows, for example, I could create some folders, one for each site, or one for each time period. But in Android, how does it work? Is there a system of folders like Windows? Or is there a totally different way to organize files?

So this may be a silly question. Folders are great for organizing like-apps, like Games, Utilities, chat etc. I know how to rename folders but is there any way to organize apps once they're IN a folder....or can you only do it by the order they were dropped in there?

Now that we've had our phones for a few weeks, the Application list is probably growing quite a bit. I know mine is! I wonder, how do you all organize your applications? Do you just put a few frequently used icons on your home screen and left the rest in the drawer? Do you create folders for different categories (Games, Utils, Social, etc) and place apps in there? Do you just load up your 3 home screens (or more if you have a home replacement) with EVERYTHING from the drawer?
