Media :: Why Wont Players Read Both The Phone HD And SD Card
Oct 15, 2010
I have a Droid Incredible, and I have music stored on both the phone and the SD card. Meridian and Cubed only read the music that's on the SD card, and while the music player that came with the phone reads both, it can't play FLAC or apple lossless files (DoubleTwist does neither). Is there any way to either reconfigure Meridian or Cubed, is there anyway to get the music player that came with the phone to play those formats, or is there some other player that reads all the data AND plays those formats.

I wanted to load up an A-DATA 16GB Class 6 card with music tonight so I can listen to music at work on the Evo tomorrow at work after i pick up phone in the morning...my questions is, since my PC (Windows 7) didn't need to format the card, will the phone need to do any formatting? Hoping I can just throw the card in at Radio Shack and enjoy my tunes.

Anyone know of any apps or media players that have a sound equalizer? Speakers on my Motorola Cliq aren't great and at full volume the speakers pop because of the bass on some songs. Equalizer would be great so I can turn the bass down as the Cliqs speakers cant handle it.

When I added a bunch of songs to my phone for listening in work, I noticed a huge chunk of them got lumped together in a folder "unknown artist/unknown album". The common factor was they all ended up with a track number before each song title. I have always been a stickler for removing track numbers when working with my MP3s, so any idea what may be triggering this phenomenon? I went back and verified some of the culprit tracks in iTunes and no where in any setting, was there a track number associated with the song name.

I should have posted this here instead of over in apps. i know the "best MP3 player" debate has been beaten to death, but i want to know whick player does the best job at randomizing your playlists? I have a large collection on my 16g card and mixzing still likes to stick to one or two albums ... the only things i need are great random (i like to shuffle all my songs and let it play) and a album cover and forward, backward, pause buttons like mixzings ..

My phone is telling me that I have low space, but according to my computer, I have well over 3GB on my SD, which leads me to believe that text messages and applications are stored in another part on the phone or on some server. Is there a way to transfer any of these to the SD card or send them to a Gmail account? I can't even read text messages that I already received because of this and I've deleted well over 100 text messages and still can't read them.

I've been using doubleTwist to sync & manage my music on my HTC EVO 4G (and Palm Pre) and I've had just about enough of its slow iTunes syncing, slow device syncing and overall clunkiness (yes, I'm a previous user of the iPod/iTunes and Zune/Zune Software systems). Though I love the doubleTwist player for Android I'm done with doubleTwist. And no I'm not interested in Salling Media Sync (especially since its not free).
If I manage things myself by manually syncing/copying music to my Android (i.e., artist/album/ folder structure under /sdcard/music/):
[1] Where do I place the playlists (in .m3u format)?: /sdcard/music/playlists OR /sdcard/music/playlist1.m3u, playlist2.m3u, etc.
[2] what Android players are compatible with this format/structure (i.e., that'll pick up the playlists just fine)?

This is technically a Win7 question, but much related to Android. On my older Android devices, when connected to PC via USB for file transfer, they would "mount" the SD card as a standard disk drive within Windows. On my newer Android devices, however, they instead connect the device to Windows as a "portable media player." This is fine, except for one thing which really irks me. Every time the portable media player director structure comes up, it is displayed as giant icons. If I change it to "list" or "detail" view within Windows, there are two big problems:
- it doesn't stick (i.e. I'll reconnect later and it will be back to giant icon view)
- it doesn't apply recursively to all subfolders
With regular Win7 file explorer (i.e. for disk drives), it is really easy to set a default folder view for all disk drives on the whole system, and it will stick forever, and apply to all subfolders on every drive. Is it possible to do the same thing with portable media players?

My daughter has a Blackberry Storm, and has ordered an Incredible, which is due to arrive Monday Sept. 13th. Is the card formatted in a format that Android can read? Or will I need to mount the card in my computer and copy all of the photos and stuff she wants to save, let Android reformat the card, mount it in the computer and transfer the stuff back onto the card? I would appreciate the advice of someone with knowledge of BB use of the Micro SD card.

i have my samsung SCH-R740C,and i put the SD card from my previous phone in it. ( it wasnt a samsung.i forgot what it was), and for a while, it was working fine in the new phone. however every once in a while, pictures, videos and music get corrupted and i dont know why.( i would save it to cloud, but it takes an extremely long time even with wifi. google+ backs up alot of ny files for me,but idk if it backs up audio.)
somehow the phone messes up my files. at first, music that i had already saved on the external SD card i could listen to(although some songs were corrupted and skipped a lot),but any new music had to be in the phone, or else i couldnt play it. now,NONE of the music can be on the exteral card so i have to move it to the phone just to hear it. id rather keep my music on my external SD card,so i could move it whenever i get a new phone.

First, I've just put Froyo on so I am up to date. I've also just installed a 32g card, formatted it on the phone (twice now) and used Windows explorer to copy mp3's of my CD's over from my laptop to the phone in to a folder called Music a couple of different times to rule out copy issues with the same results. FYI I normally carry/listen to my tunes on my Zune, and keep them associated with Zune.
My problem is that when I look at the phone's properties in Explorer, I see that I've used about 3.9g used, yet when I look at the individual CD folders I see nothing near that size. the Music folder on the phone shows 36 folders,108 files but a size of only 548m. No other phone folder shows any substantial usage. When I browse to the folders, a few of them have mp3's, but almost all show as empty, 0 files. I know I copied files, I watched it happen. When I launch the music app it doesn't see any of the folders with 0 files. Some of the folders that show mp3 files play but most don't. I get an "unable to play this type of audio file" message on the phone yet all of the files are the same. I should note that before I put the 32g card in, I did a trial copy of about 4 CD's with the 8g card in and they played fine. I didn't bother copying any more since I knew that I was getting the 32g card.
Any thoughts? Does the phone have a problem with a 32g card?

I tell you, I love this phone but I hate it. Compared to a Windows Mobile device where everything is as simple as dragging and dropping into folders, this phone gives me such headaches with its overly simplistic (and limited) processes. threads on making your own mp3 ringtone, I've got a kick-ass sampling from The Church's "Under the Milky Way" (you know the part. The synth bagpipe bridge). BUT I can only save it to the storage card. Which isn't a problem except until I get some spare cash, I can't quite swing a 16gb yet. Lots of little 512mb (don't laugh!) cards that I swap frequently (and I'd like a little sit-down with the person who designed the card slot cover to only be opened by gerbil paws). Is there a way to save my custom ringtone directly to the phone? Or will I have to stick it on every card until that glorious payday when I can get a 16gb?

I am becoming sick of the Incredible's stock player, mainly because of its poor shuffle mode. I have looked at apps like MixZing, Cubed, and DoubleTwist, but these all seem like they won't play music from both the sd card and internal phone storage like the stock player. Are there any players that will do this, and perhaps find album art like the others?

Looking to speed up my Samsung Captivate a bit. Seems like every since I loaded it up with some music and movies that it is slower. Any truth in that? Considering getting an SD card to hopefully help with that but not sure if it is just my imagination. Anything else for performance tweaking would be great too.

I have the HTC incredible, and I would like for it to be able to read memory cards other than the micro sd. Specifically, I am interested in using Sony Pro Duos and transferring pictures from the pro duo card to my device. Assuming I acquired the proper usb cables and then hooked a card reader up to the device, would this work?

How can I read the CID (Card Identification register) of an SD card with Java or C-Code in an Android phone? I tried "cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid" but at least on the Samsung I7500 Galaxy it does not return the CID of the SD card because it is always the same number with different SD cards.
