Looking to speed up my Samsung Captivate a bit. Seems like every since I loaded it up with some music and movies that it is slower. Any truth in that? Considering getting an SD card to hopefully help with that but not sure if it is just my imagination. Anything else for performance tweaking would be great too.

I bought my Captivate and am a Android convert from Iphone and many Windows Mobile devices. So far I like the phone and the app store however am annoyed I can't get outside android programs to load.I have seen the sticky on this but am leery to attempt it.In the meantime I have some questions.
1. Is there a regular way most people use to move their movie files over to this phone? I tried doubleTwist, however I have selected just one folder and it grabs everything in all media folders and I have deselected looking at Windows Media Player and Itunes so this is causing me much frustration. Is there an easier way?
2.I just realized that the phone doesn't utilize an alarm clock feature. I know this is very minor, I am assuming there is an app for that.
3.Any advice an a good ebook reader for this phone?
I know I have more, but I'll stop here for now. The syncing part is just driving me nuts!
I've searched all over the forums and can't find anyone else who is having this problem. I am able to set my captivate to "media player" under the USB settings and Windows Media Player is able to see it. I move files into the sync list and start to sync. It all works perfectly until, for whatever reason with no consistency, WMP freezes. I've concluded it's because the Captivate stops responding but I can't find a solution. The music files are not a problem since they are already condensed in mp3 format. But I need a solution for syncing pictures. Double Twist ignores the original folders and lumps every picture into one folder called "Images", so that's pointless.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHow can i put music from zune onto my phone? CDs that I ripped with media player work fine but whatever I ripped with zune I can't figure out how to put on there.
I haven't actually used my zune in years but I got used to the player on the computer so that's what I continue to use. I know theres an easier way than re-ripping everything but I have been toying with deleting the zune stuff anyway and just putting my most listened to music back on the computer to free up space but am not 100% sure I want to do that.
( I am a new Captivate convert from blackberry) and trying to find my way through.My sd card ( 32 gig kingston) is recognized by windows ( when attached to usb) and recognized by astro file reader , and winamp etc.yet the built in voice recorder and video player will not run and I get erroro message.Your phone does not have an SD card inserted.I didnt format the card originally since the phone recognized the card without it
I also disabled the scan at startup with a program startup manager is that the problem ?
I pulled my SD card out of the captivate with out unmounting it a land now it reads it as damaged and wants me to format it in order to use it. Any fixes without losing all my files?
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I plugged my new Captivate into my PC (Windows 7 64-bit) and the Captivate says it's connected, but the PC shows no signs of it being connected. I called SAmsung support, and from what I could understand of what the "tech" told me, this is a bug, and there's no way for a PC to recognize the Captivate unless there's a memory card installed. is this correct? Once a 16GB memory card is installed, do you have 64-GB of storage space you can use for music, etc?
This seems like a mammoth problem - do they have any timeframe for a fix for this? Or is the "tech" incorrect? I can't believe I just bought a brand new "Smartphone" to replace my old mobile phone and MP3 player, and I can't copy files to it. Help!

I've tried a couple times, both moving small amount of files and/or entire folders and got Error messages in Astro. Is this just lack of support or can u really just add files using a Computer to the internal memory?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 2010 F150 with sync and currently i use:ipod connected via USB for music blackberry connected via bluetooth for phone garmin connected via power for nav.I am planning on buying the samsung captivate when rogers releases it and a car dock and what I am wondering is if I put the phone in a car dock and connect only to USB and pair it to blue tooth, will I be able to make calls, play music, use the maps/nav all using sync? Because I notice when i try to play music via bluetooth sync doesnt have full voice control and when i hook up my ipod via usb the ford logo takes over and i cant control the device unless its through sync.So it seems like the phone to do all three is a bit unlikely.

Ok, here goes. So I have this fear that I won't be able to get all my lovely music from my computer to my Incredible. This is not an irrational fear, as I am notoriously bad with any kind of file management. And device management. And getting devices to talk nicely to each other.
(You may heckle me all you want. Yes, I am in over my head here. This will be an adventure.)
If I could figure out how to copy my music files to my SD card, could I then just put the card in the phone and have the stock music player recognize them and all that? Or would I end up down some dead-end street by myself in the middle of the night, drunk and dazed?
I want the music to go to the SD card anyway, whether I wait for the phone to get here or not. I'm just trying to skip a step. Will it work?
Brought over my 8GB Sandisk from my BB. Obviously over the past year it added a bunch of files and folders to the card for miscellaneous app data, music, pics, etc. Would I gain any speed on the device by reformatting the card and letting it start fresh in it's new home and re-syncing music and photos into fresh android directories?

When I deleted my external SD card partition, it wouldn't let me re-partition it. Now my computer won't even recognize my phone. Since I don't think there's a way to add an external higher gain antenna to the Captivate, I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck taking the SIM card out of the captivate and using it in a 3G USB device with any sort of an external antenna?
When we insert images or media files to sdcard, how we can see this in emulator, means in which folder, i inserted some images and checked in "pictures", but i cant see anything there, just blank only --"No Pictures found" displaying. For media i checked in "Media scanner" under 'Dev tools", there also cant see anything.Can anybody guide me in this issue.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I look at the settings and "SD card and phone storage" option I see the different types of storage. Based on what I see, please verify the following assumptions are correct. The external SD card is obviously the one I added. I assume it can be used to store media files (via USB, direct write on a PC, etc.). I read until Froyo we won't be able to install apps on this card.
The internal SD card is what is built into the phone for apps and other things those apps write to the phone.
Looks like Google Listen writes to this area (can't make it write to the external SD and not sure why). It appears that the only things writing to there are my camera and of course any music, pics, or videos I load on there directly. Nothing else seems to make use of it. The internal phone storage is for things like the OS and is pretty much off limits. When I go into the "My Files" app on the phone it dumps me into the home directory which happens to be /sdcard. I assume this is the internal SD card? Under that directory it also has "/sd" which appears to be my external SD card. Why would they make it look like "/sd" is a subdirectory of "/sdcard" when it's not?
I have the phone for about 2 weeks now, with 3-4 hours daily use. In the middle of a call this morning, it went silent and when turned on again, it displayed "SIM card removed. Reboot phone". I took the card out and put back in 3 times, but it still happens. Wi-Fi is working, phone is still running apps. I tried to press the SIM card tightly while trying to connect, but it's no good. A quick Google search does not show many people with this problem. Anyone has a quick solution before I call ATT or Samsung?

I picked up the AT&T Captivate yesterday at a store in another city (50 miles away) since my local store wasn't open on Sunday. I love this phone. The display is crisp, the response speed is smoking and surprisingly, I like the touch whiz interface, so far. I am having an issue however. When I left the store, I was on EDGE, and all was fine. Drove home on the EDGE network and had EDGE in town yesterday. When I got home I setup my wireless network on it and the web was crisp. Played for a bit, then went to bed. This morning, when I left for work and left range of my home wireless, The phone didn't pick up the EDGE network. ie. I have no EDGE connection. I've rebooted the phone and still no EDGE. (3G doesn't exist in this 1/2 horse town...sigh) I got EDGE pretty much everywhere with my I phone 3G in this crappy little town.
