LG Ally :: Turn "Verizon Loss Of Service" Voice Off On Phone?
Aug 26, 2010Does anyone know how I can turn that "Verizon Loss of Service" voice off on my Ally?

Does anyone know how I can turn that "Verizon Loss of Service" voice off on my Ally?
My phone has been working fine since June. Saturday morning I had no bars and the 3G icon was missing. I could not make a call nor access data. I re-started the phone and was able to make one call but then no bars. If I drive 1/2 north of my house everything is fine. Same with south. If I leave a two square mile radius from my house phone works just like it did before. I called Sprint to see if there was a problem with a tower or their network. Support only instructed me to do a factory reset. If that doesn't work I could take the phone to a service center. I drove to the local Sprint store - the phone worked fine. I am only having this problem - now -only at home. Issues with data at home is one thing but not being able to get voice calls is another. Will a factory reset work? Could something be blocking the signal? Other than getting a new phone how can I get Sprint to understand this problem?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got my LG Ally this past week, and I love it, but the thing is a power sucker. On my old phone (basic, no internet/data) I could go all week without charging it, this thing needs charging every other day! END RANT But that is aside the point. My problem is the phone won't stay turned off when I charge it. I plug it in, hold down the end call button, and shut it off. Then it turns right back on! Anyone know how to fix this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI did a factory reset 2 weeks ago, because when I uninstalled launcher pro, my dx went black. reboots did not help. Since that factory reset, everything has appeared to be fine though. I just read the big read stickied warning, and figured I better ask about the potential issue.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been told by one of my customers that my app (and some others) no longer works on his phone since he got an OTA for2.1-update. a bit of a Google about and it sounds like yes - my customer and my app are not alone. Has any-one else encountered this - is it Verizon's fault or has my app got some obscure bug? The icon has changed from the normal group text icon to a generic android icon, and instead of being called group text, the name that shows up in my app menu is "com.smallbould". When I click on the icon, every time I get an immediate message saying that Andriod Home has to be force closed. I never even make it to the group text main screen... nothing from group text loads, period. I can uninstall the app and then reinstall it from Android market and everything goes back to normal... the icon and the app name go back to normal and the app loads and works without a problem. But as soon as I power down the phone, the app reverts to the generic icon and becomes totally non functional again. For what its worth, Fandango and History Eraser also have this problem after 2.1-update1. All of these apps worked flawlessly before the update. My phone is an LG Ally from Verizon.

I live in an area with poor cell service (I knew this and I hate talking on my phone) and just want the noise shut off. I don't need a stupid beep to tell me that it's outta service. It's driving me nuts.

I am leaving the country and would like to be able to check my email using wifi, but want to prevent getting roaming charges incase the data/phone connection kicks on. I know that if you turn on airplane mode, it will not allow you to turn on wifi. Is there a way, or an app that will allow you to do this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe'll this is a deal breaker for me, after being pretty happy with the RUU update and the speed improvement it brought to the stock music player. When using the turn by turn navigation, every time the voice comes in the player puts itself on pause. After the instruction is over it remains paused instead of resuming. Then I have to manually hit play again to resume playback. This is a big deal while driving since I don't want to be fidgeting with my phone every couple seconds. This was not an issue with 2.1 , since as soon as the turn by turn instruction was gone the music would automatically resume.

Why do the menus seen different to other phones (more complicated)? is it just the phone or is it what to expect of Android phones?
Simple things like message ringtones menu, what are they called now?
I'm new to Android and I'm deciding on which phone to get. I believe I want the Fascinate but this issue with Google Maps navigation is an issue since turn-by-turn navigation is a big feature for me. Does Bing Maps also offer turn-by-turn navigation as well? Is it voice assisted? Personally I don't care if it's Bing or Google but I don't want the Verizon one since it will require a monthly fee. As long as Bing Maps offers the same functionality as Google Maps, I'm fine.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI don't know about anyone else, but I HATE the turn-by-turn directions voice in Google Navigation. I have a Moto Droid and the voice is practically unintelligible. As a die-hard Google devotee,I have faith that they will correct the problem if enough people tell them to. Surprisingly, I was not able to find this suggestion on their product suggestion forum, so I created one.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had my Droid for about a month and the Google Voice turn by turn naviagation has worked beautifully. Today, when I went to use it, I'm receiving directions...BUT I do not get turn by turn voice directions. The view of the map is from like an airplane, not the "over the shoulder" view like I used to get, and the voice part is totally gone (I've checked the volume and it's not that).I've tried powering the phone down/up, but doesn't help. I've called Verizon but they've told me they don't support this App.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI received the OTA 4.4.2 update earlier this week, and now the Bluetooth voice dialer has gone full retarded. If say "call Susan mobile", it responds, "did you say call Susan work mobile". what combination of words I use it never give me the correct option. If I answer yes at any of the suggested options, it invariably responds "no entry, try again", because, of course, there is not "work mobile" entry. I never had this problem prior to the update. The only work-around that works is storing the number is a speed dial number and using "speed dial 2" as a voice command, and it will successfully dial that speed dial number. But, of course, I can't put everybody in my contacts list into a speed dial number, and even if I could, I wouldn't e able to remember everyone's speed dial number.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMaybe this is a dumb question, but if Android is so cool and open source and whatnot, shouldn't it be possible to break off of one service provider and go to another with the same phone? Ex: From T-Mobile to Verizon? By just modifying the source code a bit?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got a Google Voice invite about a week ago, and while I mainly just wanted the voicemail perks, I went for the new number, just so I could have all the bells and whistles when I eventually need them.
In the meantime, however, rather than let the account sit idle, I really wanted to figure out how to use the Voice visual voicemail for my Verizon line. I was on an iPhone for almost two years--I'm never going to go without visual voicemail again. But I'm not paying Verizon for it, the third-party apps I've tried all had enough annoying traits to drive me away, and hot damn, inaccurate as it may be, I want voicemail transcription if only for the comedic benefits of reading the mad-lib transcriptions of friends' voicemails.
So, anyway, I finally stumbled across this post on the Google forums, giving a step-by-step procedure to redirect your missed/ignored/busy calls to your google voice account. (Basically, you make three calls using prefixes and your google voice number to set the redirects... the instructions also include all of the codes to undo all the redirects if/when you decide to go back to normal.) I tried it out, it took all 60 seconds to set up, and it works beautifully.
Depending on how your voice account is set up, you may need to adjust some settings (so you don't get an email, text, AND google voice notification every time you get a voicemail, which I quickly discovered was quite annoying).
Again, this only works if you have a Google Voice account, with a new number (but then, if you got GV for an existing number, you wouldn't have to go through all this).
I used Instamapper on my BB but had to disablr AGPS, now I have reinstalled it on my Motorola Droid and I cant get it to connect. I read when I had my BB Verizon does not allow the use of AGPS, but cant figure out hoe to turn it off in this app.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running the original Motorola Droid with Android v2.2.I'm sure this has been brought up in the past, but I've searched and can't find any real good answers.I've had Google Voice for about a year now on my Droid. Here are some concerns I have:
1) It uses anytime minutes when someone is leaving a message.
2) Often it doesn't know when the caller has hung up and eats up additional minutes recording only silence.
3) With the in-call volume maxed out I can barely hear the voicemail through the handset speaker.
For a couple months last year I had Verizon Visual Voicemail and these were the concerns I had:
1) It costs $2.99/month (but doesn't use anytime minutes)
2) Like Google Voice, with the in-call volume maxed out I can barely hear the voicemail through the handset speaker.
3) Notification of voicemails was nowhere near as quick as regular voicemail or Google Voice.
My biggest question right now for both of them- Is there any way to get the in-call volume fixed when listening to messages? Anyone else having these issues? It's important for me that voicemail volume is good and notification is quick. I can't seem to find a visual voicemail option that hits all the nails on the head.
I was having some issues with Google Voice (people saying that they didn't always get my voicemail or sometimes it was some automated thing instead of my Google Voice message). I can't afford not getting my voice messages so I want to switch back. However, now whenever I get a voicemail it shows up in my notification bar and I click on the notification and it automatically calls a google voice number. However, when I enter my pin it says I have no messages. So I'm assuming they are on my Verizon Voicemail. But I can't get to them. I finally figured out that in settings you have to then go to the Call menu and change the Voicemail Service back to "My carrier" from Google Voice. But then the Voicemail Number stills shows as the google voice number. What is the number to change it to for Verizon Voicemail? Will that take care of it and allow me to check the 3 unheard messages and then get all of my messages from here on out?

It's obnoxious as hell. Anyone know how to turn that "feature" off?
I am on my 3rd android phone, and the first thing I do on everyone is turn off all screen animations.
You do this in Menu-Settings-Display- NO ANIMATIONS
Doing this makes opening and closing apps, flinging through screens and many other things much faster.
You'll loose the cool looking transition when coming in or out of an app. But this is well worth it, IMO.
It's all about performance
