Motorola Droid X :: Loss Of 3G Data Service

Aug 4, 2010

I did a factory reset 2 weeks ago, because when I uninstalled launcher pro, my dx went black. reboots did not help. Since that factory reset, everything has appeared to be fine though. I just read the big read stickied warning, and figured I better ask about the potential issue.

Motorola Droid :: SMS / MMS Data Loss

Dec 29, 2009

when I opened Handcent SMS on my phone, it came up with a white screen that I had assumed was just a bug, but after sending a text message,I realized that all of my previous messages had been lost or deleted for some reason. Absolutely nothing happened between last night and this morning that would have led me to expect such a result, and as you can imagine I'm pretty upset about the data loss. If you have any suggestions for steps to take, I would sincerely appreciate them. My phone is not rooted or anything of the sort if that changes anything. Also, I've been using SMS backup to back up to my gmail, but there are some longer texts that Handcent converts to MMS that were not backed up.

Motorola Droid :: Root Loss

Jul 3, 2010

So I had Pete's virgin 2.2 release on my phone, ran fine, full root access.

Sapphire 7.0 was released, so what the heck, I formatted system/cache, and installed.

But...lost root somehow. No SU app, no access.

Applied su.zip in Recovery to regain access. Didn't work...

Applied it a few more times, rebooted...nada.

Wiped system/cache and installed CM6 Alpha 3...no root. Applied su.zip, still no su app, no root.

Nandroided back to my backup of Pete's virgin 2.2 release. Root.

Wiped system/cache, installed CM6 Alpha 3, no root.

W-T-F?

Never seen this before...always wipe system/cache before a new ROM, never lost root before.

Really appreciate any suggestions...I have access to CW recovery.

Don't understand how flashing a rooted ROM could leave me w/out root access, or why installing an su zip doesn't add SU back in.

HTC Desire :: Data Loss And Photo Corruption

Aug 1, 2010

1. I connect my phone to my PC and copy mp3 files to the phone's sd card. But then immediately when it's done it's all gone again! The files just don't stay there.

2. Taking photos, lots of them age getting corrupted.

Could this be a quality issue with the SD card?? Admittedly i got 32gb for only $50. Could it be as simple as that ?

Samsung Moment :: Repeated Loss Of Data Connection

Jun 14, 2010

I keep having this problem with my Moment where it will refuse to do data connections. Sometimes rebooting helps, sometimes it doesn't. It happened three times today, and I was ready to throw my phone out the car window. It's happened on and off since I got the phone 2 months ago. I hoped it would go away after I updated to 2.1, but no dice. My wife, who doesn't use the phone as heavily, doesn't have these problems. Some days (like today) it seems worse than others. I see scattered forum posts about "evdo lockup" and "cdma lockup", but no real idea of how to diagnose what the problem is, and more importantly, whether it's worth taking it back to Sprint and trying to get them to do somethin.

General :: How To Avoid Data Loss In Android Device

Apr 9, 2013

Am a MMX A110 user, the phone is really great apart from occasional hanging. yesterday, it got hang when I tried to open the gallery, then I had no other option other than to remove the battery and turn on. When I turned it on, I was caught by surprise ,the apps which were moved to SD card where missing and the app list in settings shows some damaged icon then I rushed to gallery to find out wats happening. All my 300 photos were lost. Except my contacts and messages everything were corrupted. Though I recovered most of the lost stuff. I still lost many important memories. Later, I formatted my memory card to solve this issue.

1)a backup app which can function without internet connection and can synchronize it with my computer

2)Security app something like an antivirus.

Motorola Droid :: Rebooting - Significant Loss Of Contact

Jul 27, 2010

I bought one of the $4 batteries from Amazon. I dropped the Droid from several low levels at several angles and it never rebooted. Clearly the original battery was just slightly smaller dimensionally to allow a brief but significant loss of contact with the Droid. Verizon did send me a "refurb" but I send it back with a note that it was unacceptable to send a phone which at one time had someone else's problems in it as a replacement. I'm so very glad I did.

Is it also possible if I do this without having to lose all of my data?

Samsung Moment :: Occasional Complete Data Connection Loss With No 3g / 1x Icon

Apr 16, 2010

Running 2.1 dd03. I've had a few issues, the worst being-

- Occasional complete data connection loss with no 3g/1x icon (never with 1.5)
- Google voice search works from the soft keyboard but prompts "server problem" from the widget.
- Tower based location puts me 20 miles away from home in the same place all the time (cj05 days are here again).
- Phone turns on by itself when charging and occupationally unlocks and stays on (never in 1.5)
- Phone seems to heat up more and burn battery more rapidly (vs 1.5) when in low or no signal area.

Here's the new one I had this morning. I received a call, but when attempting to answer dropped/lost the call. I went to the call log and re called the number, connecting with the other parties voicemail. After leaving a message, I hung up with the red hard button. After a short time I tried to call again, but the phone wouldn't connect (stayed on dialing). I pressed the red button to cancel the call and then pressed again to turn off the phone. The screen would not turn off. I could navigate the home screen and pull down notifications, so it wasn't locked up, but I couldn't turn off the screen. The red button would quit apps, so its press was registering, but a long press didn't bring up the power off menu. I had to pull the battery to power down. This is a long way from a release OS version. Fix soon.

Android :: Parse Through Xml Data From Consumed Web Service Droid?

Oct 4, 2010

I have a web service, .asmx that when consumed gives a response in the form:

<lData>
<name>...</name>
<posx>..</posx>
<posy>...</posy>
</lData>

I use Ksoap2 to consume the web service in Android, and I see the response as a string anyType {lData=anyType{name=....;posx=....;posy=....;};}

So, I get the right data from my web service, but i don't know how to parse it correctly.
I want to find a way to iterate through the different nodes.

I have tried to use a SAXParser, but can't seem to understand what I should use instead of the url. In the tutotirals I have followed the link to a xml-file on a url, but my url is only part "finished" since i need to consume the web service first. code...

Is this above something I should use, but have another openStream?

I also tried re activating it on the verizon wireless website. No luck.

Android :: Random Complete Loss Of Database On Droid Only

Several Droid users have reported that my app's entire database just destroys itself randomly after a few days or so. This seems to be specific to the Droid. I'm at a loss. My app has a service that runs in the background to display notifications, it also supports widgets. Both of those (and the app itself, of course) access the database, and I marked every accessor to the database "synchronized", just in case. Any remote idea what could cause the entire database to just vanish?

Motorola Droid X :: Motorola Customer Service Contacts?

Oct 4, 2010

I have just had the WORST customer service experience EVER with Motorola. It started early last week, and is continuing through today. Suffices to say, the automated system is useless, the customer service reps are all in Argentina, and no one hears what you say. They only hear what they have been trained to hear, and can not think outside of their little scripts at all. If I hear " I really do apologize for the inconvenience, can you hold while I look that up" one more time, my head is going to explode.Does anyone have an email address for someone in Motorola Corporate that deals with the Consumer Electronics portion of the business? Preferably someone with a title of VP or such? I'd like to have a nice conversation with them.

Android :: Marshalling Web Service Data To UI

Sep 14, 2010

I'm stuck on a tough architectural problem. I have a collection of web services that produce data that will populate UI components - Text Views, List Views, and so on. Each web service may take up to about 10 seconds to respond, or it might not respond at all. When I click a button in the UI that requires data from the web services I need to show a Progress Dialog until either the data arrives or it times out. I'm pretty sure that an Intent Service is the best way to wrap the web services. From the documents (http://developer.android.com/reference/ android/app/Intent Service.html) "This "work queue processor" pattern is commonly used to offload tasks from an application's main thread." Also "Note that unlike other application components, calls on to the IBinder interface returned here may not happen on the main thread of the process."
The UI needs to get data back (asynchronously) from the Intent Service, which means using AIDL, onBind, and all that. But from the documents (http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/aidl.html) we have "By default, IPC calls are synchronous. If you know that an IPC service takes more than a few milliseconds to complete, you should not call it in the Activity/View thread, because it might hang the application (Android might display an "Application is Not Responding" dialog). Try to call them in a separate thread." Of course, that "separate thread" stuff in the AIDL docs in nonsense. If you spawn a separate thread in an Activity it will get blown up in On Destroy. But what do they mean by "By default"? Are there cases where the IPC can be asynchronous? Is that what is meant by the text in the Intent Service docs "may not happen on the main thread"? How does this work?

When I run my code inside the main activity it works. When I move it to a service I cant send the data back. This is what I have tried. After getting the current station info from I do this: submit Station(namer, loc, ids, dis, types); then: private void submit Station(String names, String loca, String idss, String diss, String typess){Intent intent = new Intent(NEW_STATION_LISTING); intent.putExtra("Station Name",names); intent.putExtra("Sid", loca); intent.putExtra("StationLoc", idss); intent.putExtra("Distance", diss); intent.putExtra("Types", typess);send Broadcast(intent);}
