Sprint HTC Hero : Voice Mail Not Working
Sep 7, 2010I have a Sprint Hero, and I flashed the newest cyanogenmod (6.0 froyo) rom.but my voicemail does not work properly.I just get a text message saying the person has sent me a Voice SMS, but then I cannot retrieve it. Anything I can do, or is this a quirk with the rom?

Nov 5, 2009I clicked on the voicemail icon, on my homepage, and it asked me if I wanted to download an update to which I said yes. It then started with the process and the screen said it was downloading.........2 days later, every time I go into voicemail ..it says it's downloading. I tried to cancel...1 day later it is still cancelling. How can I get out of this screen?

Jan 10, 2010I've had my Hero for about 4 months now, and other than the battery issue (I do use it a lot) I'm pretty satisfied. However since Thursday last week, I've had the SAME phone number call me, have someone jabber at me, and then hang up! I looked up the area code, and it's in Jamaica! Today has been the worst, I've had 5 calls from that same number. Frankly its really started to get annoying. I called Sprint, and asked customer care if they can block that number from the account. And they can't do that. Apparently blocking that number is an infringement on their rights. On my Hero, I've been able to find that I can just push all those calls from that number to my voice mail, but I can't block it from my line altogether. Anyone else having the same or similar issue that has come up with another option?

Feb 15, 2010I would like a different notification sound for my email than I have for voice mail. I keep reading that each app has a setting that allows one to select a unique sound, but I am not able to find this setting for the stock email app, or the voicemail app. The only options under email settings are:
Email notifications - ON or OFF
Notification sound - ON or OFF
Notification vibrate - ON or OFF
Under Voicemail settings, I see NO choices for notifications.

Nov 25, 2009should the voice mail icon have a number on it like the email or text icons if you get a new voicemail? If I get a notification, it only shows up on the task bar. I was also experiencing not recieving texts. I have since done a reset which fixed the text issue (and sleep-for now), but not the voicemail. Should I take the phone back? I fear its anotjer software bug, not hardware. I love this phone, but I'm getting very annoyed that it can't even do what its suppose to.

Jan 4, 2010One thing I've noticed with my HTC Hero (Sprint) is that I have a very short period of time to answer an incoming call before the caller is directed to voice mail. When I do answer the phone people are routinely telling me that it rang 4 or more times before I answered even though, from my perspective, I answered it rather quickly. Could this have something to do with using downloaded ringtones? Perhaps, while the phone should be ringing, instead, it is loading the ringtone off the sdcard.

Nov 7, 2009When I first activated my Hero, it required me to setup my voice mail again. There is no prompt to activate the default system greeting that reads your phone number back to the caller. For example "You have reached the voicemail box of 123-123-1234" Now I am required to record my own name or greeting. I just got off of the phone with Sprint and they told me due to "Visual Voicemail" that I have been switched to a new voicemail system. Can you confirm that you no longer have a prompt for the System Greeting?

I've been using the HTC app, but have noticed that after a day or so the notification sound stops playing when I receive an email. This happened for anyone else? Anyone tried both apps for any length of time and have strong opinions over which app is better? I saw a review that said the HTC app is better but the Google one doesn't seem too bad to me... Aug 29, 2009just got my new Hero yesterday and spent last night setting it up.I pull e-mail from my home e-mail server (an Excito Bubba) via IMAP, and had settings that worked flawlessly with my old HTC Tyntyn I entered these these into the Hero and although the device 'accepted' them it's not downloading any e-mail.I've searched through all the settings including how many and how frequently to download e-mail and all seems ok.It's really frustrating as it should be so simple.I've also tried a simple pop3 account that I have with lineone and no joy in setting that one up either.I called Orange tech support but they couldn't help either and I don't really want to return the phone.I have also tried a factory reset a few times and re-entered the settings via the wizard and manually but still no joy.

Now, the app won't retrieve mail from my account. I am looking at my mail app, and dont see the new mail that I am seeing when viewing my in box on my computer. Jul 29, 2010I finally changed the voicemail system on my Hero from Sprint's "visual voicemail" (which is misleading because it doesn't transcribe voicemails) to Google Voice. It's nice to see my transcribed voicemails now. However, when I actually want to hear them (if the transcription didn't work well), it only comes through the external speaker; the speaker on the back of the phone. I went into Google Voice settings and under "Voicemail Playback" I tried the only two options: "Play via Handset" and "Play via Speaker." Unfortunately, both play through the speaker phone speaker. How do I change it to the phone speaker? I also can't adjust the volume, so the whole world hears my voicemails through the external speaker.

Jan 23, 2010I changed the voice mail number from *86 (version default) to my Google voice number. This works when I am not answering the phone and I the caller gets connected to my GV account. But when my phone is not in coverage the caller gets my version voice mail. Appreciate if someone can correct my settings or suggest any app that does it. I am from Windows mobile world and missing those settings when you can define several settings for voice mail (unanswered, rejected, unavailable etc...)

What is important to me is my email.. I want to be able to sync my yahoo account with yahoo mail and the mail on the phone so if i send an email on my phone it will appear in the sent folder on my yahoo mail on the computer and vice versa if you follow... With Android being google will i be able to do this from the phones email client like the iphone does...

Aug 28, 2010We'll this is a deal breaker for me, after being pretty happy with the RUU update and the speed improvement it brought to the stock music player.When using the turn by turn navigation, every time the voice comes in the player puts itself on pause.After the instruction is over it remains paused instead of resuming.Then I have to manually hit play again to resume playback.This is a big deal while driving since I don't want to be fidgeting with my phone every couple seconds.This was not an issue with 2.1 , since as soon as the turn by turn instruction was gone the music would automatically resume.

I believe I want the Fascinate but this issue with Google Maps navigation is an issue since turn-by-turn navigation is a big feature for me. Does Bing Maps also offer turn-by-turn navigation as well? Is it voice assisted? Personally I don't care if it's Bing or Google but I don't want the Verizon one since it will require a monthly fee. As long as Bing Maps offers the same functionality as Google Maps, I'm fine.
