HTC Hero :: Up To Date Rooting Guides?

Oct 24, 2009

I'm looking to root my G2 (T-Mobile UK's name for the Hero) and install a custom ROM - I waited for the T Mobile official ROM but I've heard that it'll prevent me running root in the future. Can someone point me toward a good, up-to date guide on what I need to do? I also want to take a backup before rooting so that if something goes wrong in the future, I can revert it to how it was out of the box (assuming this is possible!)

HTC Incredible :: Want To Know About Mods / Guides / Members?

Sep 26, 2010

I just wanted to acknowledge all of the Mods & Guides that make this such a great forum and community. After using many other forums trying to find help and support for family members phones, both dumb and smart. do I mean the phones or the family members?), it is easily apparent how much your hard work and time have really helped to make this such a great place. Unlike most of the other forums I have visited (which shall remain nameless), this forum is heads and shoulders above the rest in terms of organization, content and courtesy. You guys and gals do a tremendous job keeping the forum easy to use and also help to keep community going.

Motorola Droid :: Stream - Video - Guides

Aug 31, 2010

I was wondering if anyone has successfully streamed AVI's to their droid?

My history with streaming:

- Used Orblive on PC to stream media (Media Skin)
- Streamed to my omnia i910, played media with Coreplayer

Worked pretty good with that setup, streamed AVI's very well (which is practically 99% of my media library)

Now i have a moto droid(1) but im having trouble trying to find an easy setup to stream video media.

Have tried:

- VLC. The setup to stream media isnt very user friendly such as a web menu that you log into your PC and browse through your library (or atleast i havent found a good tutorial yet)
- GMOTE. Its easy. Install GMOTE (w/java) on the PC (if linux have VLC on the PC too) but on the droid... you cant stream AVI. I have tried installing VLC on my droid, opens the program but wont play video. I also have Rock Player but you cant make it the default media player, so thus it wont play the stream either (or atleast i havent found/read a way to do so)
- Orblive. Great web interface. Problems though is that orb only streams in WMV/.SDP/.3GP/.PLS/Flash. The droid can only do Flash (recently, as in... 2 days ago or so) or 3GP. Flash looks... well... to give it some credit... "decent" but isnt the best FPS IMO. The 3GP format looks like watching horrible pixelling crap, to say the least. Other formats wont even stream due to the media player.

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Looking for stream software (either Win7 or Linux (ubuntu)) that will stream video files (AVI's) w/o having to convert them before streaming to the android phone. If possible... A Decent setup such as web interface thats easy to point/click navigate through the stream library (like GMOTE or Orblive)

Is this possible? I would like to just keep using Orblive but i cant change the default media player... and the only other media player i have found is Rock Player (and recently VLC on android)

Sprint HTC Hero :: DamageControl V2.08.1 Clock / Date 24 Hours Off / Weather Widget

May 10, 2010

When I installed DamageControl v2.08.1 on my cdma Hero the calendar and date are 24 hours off! Time is correct but it's the next day. When I did a back up of this install it even used the wrong date on the backup. I have a bunch of small issues that I think with patience I may be able to work around but this clock/date thing has me puzzled. Also has anyone figured out how to put a custom city in for the weather widget and not one of the ones listed but for example a small town (any town) some where in the USA? I could do this on my 1.5 but this weather widget acts like the clock and you can only use their listed cities.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Rooting Hero Than Putting On 2.2

Jun 20, 2010

I wanted to know if I root my HTC Hero on Sprint and then load 2.2 if it will have any problems. Like can the hardware on the Hero run 2.2? I know most of the devices that are going to run 2.2 have a 1GHZ processor and a lot more internal memory than my Hero does. I am only thinking about doing this because 2.1 on Hero is so glitchy, but I love the 2.1 apps. Any help?

HTC Hero :: Rooting HTC Hero GSM - Telus Version

May 18, 2010

I just got a Telus version of the HTC Hero. Coming from an iPhone, I've been through some of the 'root/jailbreak' scenes, so most things are familiar. However, making the transition to the Anrdoid OS, there's many things I'm not understanding. Currently the Hero is running 1.5 (can that be updated). I tried running Instant Root and it failed. So I tried the Gold Card method (Eh, not too bad) and no luck with that. I'm not sure where to start, since the guides mentioned in the stickies for root don't work for me. I'm just a confused newbie with the Android customization scene.

I'd probably prefer the manual method so let's troubleshoot that I get through most the steps found here (and I believe I've followed them exactly, to the letter): How-To Root a Sprint Hero But when I enter the code for #6: /data/local /asroot2 /system/bin/sh My system returns: [1] killed /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh It simply won't continue past that point. Ideas please?

It is recognised when I search on rom manager gives me 2 options to backup and wip/clear cache and says press ok to complete install.

I press ok and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? should the rom file be zipped and if not can anyone give me a few short steps from here?
