I flashed Villon Rom 10 about 2 weeks ago, and today i started noticing that my phone only connects at edge and won't go into 3g mode so super slow Internet. I'm with Fido (Canada) if that makes any difference, i haven't touched my APN settings, I used to connect to 3g all the time... not sure if this started when i rooted or not.

Lately, I've noticed it has been having connection issues. I start the hotspot, my laptop "sees" it. And I can connect (shows "connected" in the wifi window next to "FoxFi" on laptop). But, at the top of the same wifi window, it also shows (under "Currently connected to:"), "No internet access" (or something - connected right now on different wifi network, so I can't get the exact wording). But I hope this is clear.
Why this weird contradiction? One part of the window says I'm connected, the other says I'm not.
I've tried everything I can think of. disabling anti-virus and firewall. following HTC's troubleshooting, but nothing seems to work. I have the latest version of HTC sync, and my hero is recognised on USB. i've enabled USB debugging, and managing files on the SD card is not a problem, but HTC Sync just won't recognise that my hero is connected!

It's been happening for a few months, it worked ok for the first 6 months I had the phone, I've tried numerous PCs and cables, but nothing has worked. I'm currently stuck on v1.5 of Android.I've contacted Orange, but they've just passed me on to HTC, can anyone help before I just give up and buy an iphone?!

If I plug in my headphones it switches to headphone mode, but as soon as I disconnect them it switches back to headset mode. (making me unable to use my phone to make phone-calls) Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Hero today, and it looks like if it's always connected to mobile internet. The "E" icon is always there. What does that mean? I would prefer my HTC to connect only periodically. For example every 15 minutes to check my emails and sync my calendar. Is that possible? I think the battery life would much be better if we could do that, and I personally don't need my mobile phone to be connected to the internet 24 hours a day!

I can see plenty of websites offering APN details and the Hero manual points me to where I need to go to create APN settings on the phone, but I realise that I may flounder when I need to decide exactly what I need to do and in what order. Does anyone know of an idiot's guide setting out the steps I need to take, please?

When I connect to WiFi (home WEP and open), it says I am connected - shows IP address etc., but nothing actually works through the WiFi - can't sync Exchange email, can't download from market, won't even update location on Google Maps. If I switch WiFi off everything works fine over mobile network, but that is unsustainable due to data charges.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a serious problem with my HTC Hero. Basically, all of a sudden I got this icon of a pair of headphones in the notification area. I checked what it meant on the manual and it means: Wired Headset Connected.There were no headset connected when it appeared and never before because I have never put any headset in the phone. I thought that by restarting the mobile I'll have it solved..but no..the icon remains there. The major problem is not the icon in itself but the phonecalls. When I call someone or someone calls me, there is no sound in the ear speaker because the sound output is basically going into a headset that does not exist. I tried putting the factory headset in and out to refresh the icon however this does not sort out the problem neither. There is no setting to switch this thing on or off and I have no idea how it came up. I tried all settings even during an incoming call or so but nothing..there's this flag that keeps indicating a wired headset. I don't feel like formatting the phone because it's not fair!! (and i dont have the damn time to play around..it costs good money so i pretend it works fine he only way I can have a phone conversation is either by putting the call on speakerphone (obviously losing privacy) or by carrying a headset around with me all the time.

But I switch on the mobile network + WiFi at the same time, its work fine for everything included Browser. But after restart my HERO, I can switch on the WiFi without switch on the mobile network and no problem at all, but after using mobile network, problem is coming to me again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have done a search and found problems of people cannot mount and are not connected. However, my prob is different. This is my second PC to attempt with same problem. I dl HTC Sync and connect with USB cable that came with phone. I get the USB icon on the top of Hero but HTC Sync says disconnected. When I bring down the USB icon and press Mount I get a "Removable Disk (E" popup. The options at this point are: Copy pictures to folders, Use slide show of images, Print the Pictures, Copy Disc, Play, Play Video Files, Open Folder to View Files, Take No Action. This tells me that the PC is reading my phone, however, HTC still says disconnected. Do I select one of these options in order to be connected on Sync? My goal is to update the firmware.

But it seems to drop the connection for no reason, my previous phone a sony ericsson would just stay connected all the time, this drops it when it likes, could be 2 min, to 2 hours before i have to reconnect then disconnect then connect.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have manually installed the drivers, and I am running windows 7 64-bit. The problem is that my Hero will not connect to my pc as a mass storage device. I pull down the notifications, mount, but then a couple of seconds later, the hero remounts the SD card and closes the connection. My computer will detect it and I can access the "storage device" for a couple of seconds, but then it disconnects.

As an example, if I want to listen to a podcast on Beyondpod, the moment it starts playing, the music player kicks in & plays whatever track was last being played. I use Taskiller to close it down but it's starts up again after a few mins or even seconds. It also occasionally dials the last number I called, just to really wind me up. It also occasionally does this when watching a video with headphones in.

I've searched around and tried a lot of the tips and tricks that I've seen. I manually downloaded drivers, and that didn't work either.I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, which from what I've heard has been a source of problems for a lot of people. I decided to come to you guys before I went to HTC about this, so if you have any advice please share. I can't even get Pre-Kitchen until I fix this problem.I've tried:
1) Restarting my phone while connected
2) Checking off USB Debugging, plugging it in, then checking it on.
3) Restarting my computer while phone is connected.
4) Downloading 64-bit drivers.
5) Un-installing HTC Sync, Re-installing it.
Lately, I have had a lot of issues with my bluetooth headphones (won't start on the countless other issues). Out of no where it will stop working; so I go into my bluetooth settings and the headset says it is still connected.... (not the issue)
The issue is when I try disconnecting then re-connecting, the message "Headset is disconnected" appears and will not go away under any circumstance. It stays there when going back to the home page, putting the phone to sleep and back on, everywhere, even when reconnected!
The only way to get the message to go away is powering off the phone. I have repeated this several times with the same results 100% of the time.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am thinking of getting a HTC Hero. I am not well up on smart phones. I do like the iPhone but that seem way too expensive compared to the deal I can get on the Hero. On Google Maps, the manual says the phone needs connected toi wifi oir gprs for GM to work. I am going on holiday and dont want to use a huge amount of GPRS in case the bill starts to mount up for international usage. Can the maps for the area I am going to be cached on the phone in some way?
The other question I have is - can the phone be used as a GPS tracker. Say, recording my location every 10 seconds. Then downloading this to my PC and Google Maps when I get home so i can trace wherev I have been. On comparisons between the Hero and iPhone - this is nearly like a religious debate. Is the Hero a fair match for the iPhone.
Says I am connected to wifi but it doesn't work...anybody else have this problem or know how to fix it?

When the phone is unplugged, it says USB connected, and all of the icons are missing from the top of the homepage (time, signal strength, 3g, etc). The pull down menu is also hard to pull down then is real jerky when it does pull down. When the phone is plugged in, it has the signal for the USB and all the icons return, It also shows a full battery, then tho it is not.

I know most of the devices that are going to run 2.2 have a 1GHZ processor and a lot more internal memory than my Hero does. I am only thinking about doing this because 2.1 on Hero is so glitchy, but I love the 2.1 apps. Any help?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got a Telus version of the HTC Hero. Coming from an iPhone, I've been through some of the 'root/jailbreak' scenes, so most things are familiar. However, making the transition to the Anrdoid OS, there's many things I'm not understanding. Currently the Hero is running 1.5 (can that be updated). I tried running Instant Root and it failed. So I tried the Gold Card method (Eh, not too bad) and no luck with that. I'm not sure where to start, since the guides mentioned in the stickies for root don't work for me. I'm just a confused newbie with the Android customization scene.

So now i'm looking at the Goldcard way. Unfortunately when it comes to the step where you goto Free G1 goldcard generation ! to put in your email and CID I just get a duff page which says About, Download, Support Forum. All of these links take you to the PSAS website and I cannot see anywhere where you can put these details in.
