what do i have to do to my hero before the 2.1 upgrade hits the networks?
1 - my contacts
2 - my photos
3 - my apps
these are the three things i am concerned about?do i save them all onto my laptop first? but how do i save the apps to my laptop?my phone is not rooted or anything like that, just standard version.

I am using fresh 2.1.2 and have the vanilla lock screen but I want to know if it is possible to put the time and date back onto the lock screen? Wondering why flipz took it out in the first place?

I have backed up my apps using Astro. Not sure how much this back up. Could someone give me the definitive procedure for keeping as much data as possible on phone when the update is release in March?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI was told several times during Sprint Chat session that I could go into a Sprint Store 2 weeks before my 7/1/2010 upgrade date and get my upgrade on an EVO. So I got put on a waiting list and my phone came in a week before 7/1 but they said there was no way they would do it even if I was told during a sprint chat session that I could. Was the agent on Sprint Chat who told me I could just a complete idiot?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an upgrade available atm and I can't decide if I should wait or not. I currently have a Droid 1 rooted/OC'd. My options are either the Fascinate or wait till Jan-Feb. I have zero interest in the X, and can't see "upgrading" to the D2 or the Incredible.
It is probably meaningless to ask the Fascinate community because, like the D1 community, you're probably all biased..but how are you liking your Fascinates? Would you upgrade to it today if you had the choice? What's the highest achievable clock speed to date (stable)? How is audio quality, I've heard of speaker crackling when at max volume?
Not sure how but I lost the BIG DATE , time, local weather, etc on my main screen. I still have my shortcuts on the lower half of screen, but the top half (where the DATe, etc was) is just open space.

What's the best way to back up Android phones prior to a complete wipe / re-install of new OS? (back up of sms, apps, data for apps, call log, etc etc...) Early this year it was My Backup, and Astro File manager I believe. Is there something newer or better these days?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded my OS from 1.6 to 2.1 today using the PC companion.
As suggested, I have taken the backup using the backup & restore app.
After, the phone got upgraded, I could find only facebook contacts in my list.
then i went to View options and played around with all the check boxes and i could view the contacts.
how ever, i could see each contact having the numbers multiple times inside it.
so, I deleted the contacts and tried to restore them again.
the restore was successful. i can see the contacts in my favorites list. when i dial/receive calls, i can still see the contact name.
but, the contacts are not being shown in the list. i know this is a weird problem.
I have referred the article (at http://www.developer.com/article.php/3850276 ) for implementing the native calendar control, but i would like to display calendar also on the screen and also User can able to select date, and after selecting date user can also be able to event on that selected date.
So is there any way to display calendar (month view) in Android ?
I'm looking to root my G2 (T-Mobile UK's name for the Hero) and install a custom ROM - I waited for the T Mobile official ROM but I've heard that it'll prevent me running root in the future.Can someone point me toward a good, up-to date guide on what I need to do? I also want to take a backup before rooting so that if something goes wrong in the future, I can revert it to how it was out of the box (assuming this is possible!)

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed DamageControl v2.08.1 on my cdma Hero the calendar and date are 24 hours off! Time is correct but it's the next day. When I did a back up of this install it even used the wrong date on the backup. I have a bunch of small issues that I think with patience I may be able to work around but this clock/date thing has me puzzled. Also has anyone figured out how to put a custom city in for the weather widget and not one of the ones listed but for example a small town (any town) some where in the USA? I could do this on my 1.5 but this weather widget acts like the clock and you can only use their listed cities.

On the link provided by the 3 website the Rom upgrade available is ROM version 2.73.405.5 but the one on my phone is 2.73.771.62. Now I'm assuming that the bigger the number, the more recent the software. Am I right with this and if so, am I correct in thinking I don't need to upgrade the ROM?

View 5 Replies View Relatedso I took the plunge and threw SenseHero 2.2 on my HERO.As with many others I was curious as to why i should upgrade. Even now im still trying to find new things to do with 2.1 that i couldnt do before. I thought why have a thread that people can post new things about 2.1 ROMs so that fence sitters can have a decision. So put up the apps/widgets etc that are 2.1 only and why they are so great. Also remember to state if it is ROM dependant (Villain/SenseHero etc)I am on SenseHero 2.2 the pinch zoom in home screen that shows an overview of all your 7 screens is wonderful. It makes getting to the end screens so much quicker, and it looks super flashy.At first i didnt like the theme but now i really quite like it.Live Wallpapers & 3D gallery they are pretty nifty, however on my device were not so smooth so I uninstalled as it is really just eye candy and does not add to the use of the phone. Much the same with 3d gallery, i had a few minor problems but was happy with the original gallery so switched back. Your experience with these may differ though so they are worth a look.Bluetooth file transfer is working? Or so i have heard, i havn't tested yet though Google Goggles, Although 1.6 is required, most people are on 1.5 roms. It is a really cool app, works great when wanting an online price as opposed to a store price. Ive used it to find some info on books for uni etc. It stores your history so you can recall everything you have searched.
AOSP Keyboard, I got quite used to the HTC keyboard but once i swapper it for this there was no going back. Much quiker than HTC keyboard and a lot easier to type. Though i do miss the long press for symbols, i can live without them.As for apps and widgets, so far im not too sure. I hope some others can suggest some.
On Saturday the 3rd i got a htc hero from t-mobile on contract, since then a ROM has been released on the phone the build number is 1.76 110.6 146733 CL47214release keys. the question is do i need to upgrade the ROM on it?

It's a G-Sensor calibration tool so nothing exciting but I wasn't expecting anything ever again after getting 2.1!

Took about five minutes for the device to fully reboot into the phone after the progress bar reached the end so don't be tempted to turn it off during this process.

I recently learnt of this update, but having real trouble installing it. I sync Hero to HTC, follow instructions, get half way through to point where blue bar says it's erased 11% of contacts...and every single time I get error 171: USB connection error. The phone or computer keeps dropping the connection; anyone got any ideas why this might be happening and how to solve it?
