Last week I replaced my Treo 750 with a Hero. After spending 5 hours I converted my contacts into the Hero. I have also installed a couple of apps. I just checked the phone specifics:
Firmware Version 1.5
Build number 1.44.557.2
Software version 1.44.557.2
I assume this phone needs updating, right. Question is- what about the apps installed and contact list? Can I back them up somewhere?

I have a friend that has a htc hero. When he was updating the Rom using the fast boot the phone shutdown and now when he try to turn on the green led light up and if he touches the vol down the phone vibrate 3 times. The pc recognizes the phone. Is it dead? Or there is any solution?

My phone says I have 2.3, I think (It actually says, "MoDaCo Custom ROM 2.3 Core"). What steps do I take to update my ROM build?
Part 2 of this question: My phone is running on 1.5, and I've heard people saying that 2.1 is now widely available for the non-Sprint Hero, and being "pushed" in most parts of the world. (I purchased my phone in the states, and brought to Israel this week where I'm now using it.) I don't have any particular service for it other than regular cellphone service with a Cellcom SIM card. Is there a way I can actively download the 2.1 to my phone, or do I just have to "wait"?
Rooted my HTC Hero a few weeks back but ran into a few problems so reverted back to the original ROM. Now when I try to update the phone to 2.1, it restarts and says "Verification Signature failed". Any ideas how I would I get around this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedHad my Hero (T-mobile branded G2...) since release day, but in the last week or so I've had a few issues. Firstly, Gmail isn't synchronising regularly. Sometimes mail comes through instantly, sometimes it doesn't update for a day or more (if I open the Gmail app and "Refresh" it pulls the new mails down). I can't think of anything I've installed that could cause this (all i've installed in the last week are a few soundboards)Secondly, if I go into Market and try to either install a new app, or update an existing one, it sticks on "Starting download..." until I connect to Wifi (then downloads the app immediately). Is there a problem with the Market at the moment, or is this more likely to be a network issue?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI used Google Maps as I had some running around to do. I was not using GPS, I have it turned off and have full HSPA (H) showing on phone. Anyways, I put in my first stop and GMaps gave me the directions right away... so no problem.After I was done at the first place, I put in my second stop. GMaps showed exactly the same directions . I've been home now for about 1/2 and still, the exact same directions no matter what I put in.I have not turned the phone off/on or anything like that, because quite frankly, I shouldn't have to!Anyone get this happening with GMaps?

I'm on a UK Orange phone with the Modaco 2.9.
Reception is generally good, however there are times in good reception areas when I get an answerphone message come through when I havent moved away from a good reception area.. So it appears that the phone is dropping reception - I have read this before on the forum IIRC.
Hopefully updating the Radio will help? Which one and is it as easy as updating the ROM ?
The weather app that comes with the hero used to update location and weather whereever I went but it stopped doing that..I was in orlando all weekend and it gave me miami weather the whole time..is there a way to fix it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedNow we all know how frustrating it is to have to backup and restore all your data on your phone for the rare time you have to update the rom, do a factory reset, etc. I recently had to do a factory reset. I've lost all my call logs - I can live with that. I don't have my sms' on my phone anymore - I can live with that. I have lost all my apps - which is okay BUT what really annoys me is that some apps seem to have disappeared from the market. I found the perfect sticky note widget after trying out dozens of others and now it's gone from my phone and from the market. Same goes for the Skype beta app. What can I do to get these Apps back (especially one entitled 'sticky memo widget lite')?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm currently trying to flash my phone to the Android 2.1 ROM in this thread, but am stuck on updating the radio (one of the prerequisites of the howto is having the latest radio firmware).I've followed this guide to root the phone (successfully!), however the last step is updating the radio. I've downloaded the latest radio img file and renamed it to update.zip, but when I reboot (holding down the back key) I don't get an option to install this file (I get the three little skater dudes, and press vol-down for HBOOT mode etc). How do I force this to come up?As a side issue, I also don't appear to have a recovery mode any more? If I reboot recovery, my phone hangs on the Hero logo and goes no further (I've waited approx 15 mins for it to boot). How can I recreate my recovery profile?

At first, no matter how many times I refreshed, my new mails were not showing up. I tried deleting my email account from my phone and then adding it back. This fixed the problem for a day or two, but now I am having emails show up twice in the inbox, and my phone will update basically whenever it wants to. I only realized this, because every time I have checked my mail on my computer I have 5-10 emails more than are showing up on my phone. WTH?

Recently I've been missing incoming text messages and now not receiving my exchange emails, so I figured I'd go ahead and update to 2.0d (sticking with fresh). I downloaded the zip and flashed it but it didn't boot up (waited over 30 minutes) it just stayed on with the animated HTC text. Multiple attempts with the same results. Even tried Damagecontrol 2.08 and it boots and and I even get the sprint animated logo but stays at the htc "quietly brillant" and goes no further.

So i look at my clock widget two hours later and it is an hour behind. Happens to ALL my widgets.Even the quick turn on/off wifi,bt,gps and such. They just stop updating/showing animation.I have ADW launcher installed. I am wondering if it is that. I do not really want to remove it as i hate the stock 3 button interface at the bottom (why do i need a contacts and phone, just use the phone to look thru contacts, wasted space IMO) and am quite keen on keeping the 5 button.Any ideas? If i power off the phone and turn it back on it's fine again for about an hour. SOmetimes randomly thru the day it will start updating and working fine again then randomly stop again.

This has happened with Pandora, Key Ring Finder, Audio Manager and countless other apps. With some other apps, after updating the application, it will work fine, but the name will change to something odd like com.chompsms.Well, i was reading through Key Ring Finder update and realized that something is occuring specifically with the HTC Hero that is causing this with application updates.But there is a ::drum roll please:: workaround! When updating an app, do not select the 'update' option! This is where the programs become corrupt. Instead, click 'uninstall', then reinstall the application. The freshly installed copy will work perfectly!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI changed my main Google/gmail account recently, and decided to update my Hero, but having cleared the data from Google Apps (in Manage Applications) I now can't connect my new account due to the problems described here and here. I'm pretty much resigned to doing a factory reset (annoying though), but is there any way I can back up SMS messages? Some data I can extract from the SD Card, but I can't install anything to backup SMS as I'm unable to install anything from the market. So if anyone has any info on either of these issues I'd be really grateful - I'd either like to avoid having to do a reset, or find some way of backing-up without having access to the market.

I rooted my phone (HTC Hero 200 running 2.1) a few days ago, went with Fresh 2.1, but after having some trouble with WiFi Tethering I opted for Damage Control. I did a lot of searching online and found Damage Control 0.999999% and installed it on my phone. It is working okay for the most part, but I found out that there are a number of 2.0 versions out there so I decided I wanted to update to a new version.
1) Version 2.09.1 would not load (and I read that it was unstable so I removed it and rolled back.
2) I went with version 2.08.1 and when I rebooted the phone it would get stuck on the boot-up screen and would not go any further (I went in, wiped the phone, went back to the initial Kernel I installed (2.6.29-8f4e5478 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1), but it still wouldn't work.
3) I research other Damage Control ROMS and went with 2.06.1 Lite to download the DCUpdater, thinking that if I went with this edition I would use it to get to 2.08.1, but same result as before.
Do I need to download a new Kernel? Do I need to start from scratch and root my phone all over again?
I have a rooted Evo, and I decided to go ahead and get froyo today. I used the software update and downloaded it, went ahead and let it update, and now about 2 hours later it's still updating. I'm stuck on the screen with the Android guy with a triangle and exclamation point in it.Is this normal? How long does this update take?
