Nov 6, 2010

HTC Hero :: Phone shutdown while updating Rom using fast boot

General :: Shutdown Makes Phone Unable To Boot Without PC

Jan 21, 2013

After unlocking my phone's bootloader and flashing the kernel:

When I power off the phone, it gets into a state where I cannot control it by itself (black screen, no charging light if connected to a power source, does not react in any way to any key).

However, I am able to access it via adb over USB. Using adb, I can put it into some other state (reboot, reboot bootloader, etc) and again gain control over it (also through its own keys). When I select the "power off" function of the bootloader, it enters this state again.

I can even reboot the phone (also into recovery/bootloader/fastboot) from any state

So I can use the phone, but I can't power it on by itself, which isn't a good situation when I don't have a computer around.

device: HTC One S
ROM: CyanogenMod 10 (device is officially supported by CM10; I used the version I found in the Wiki.)
kernel: The one included in CM10 (had to be flashed manually via fastboot because of restrictions by the device; I flashed the kernel before flashing the ROM)

Sprint HTC Hero :: Updating Fresh 1.1 To 2.0 - No Boot Up

May 6, 2010

I rooted the phone a while back and was using fresh 1.1, probably over a month ago. Recently I've been missing incoming text messages and now not receiving my exchange emails, so I figured I'd go ahead and update to 2.0d (sticking with fresh). I downloaded the zip and flashed it but it didn't boot up (waited over 30 minutes) it just stayed on with the animated HTC text. Multiple attempts with the same results. Even tried Damagecontrol 2.08 and it boots and and I even get the sprint animated logo but stays at the htc "quietly brillant" and goes no further.

Android :: Appwidget With Fast Updating Needed

Feb 15, 2010

I would need a fast updating (minimum 5 frames/second) appwidget which can be on the desktop all the time (like the cpu usage or other things mostly measurement gauges). The appwidget is not a "must" but I've found it easy to configure for any customer so the management is easy and I need those gauges to be shown like an appwidget on the desktop. The only problem is the update speed - I've seen that appwidget is not really thought for my needs. In my case it's not about phones, the small unit will always have power supply so draining the battery is not an issue. I could tweak the 30 minute update time but it doesn't helps too much - the appwidget framework is simply too slow with all that serialization and would eat too much CPU. What other solutions can be used? I've seen that a system service (LoadAverageService for example) would do the job but that one is not really configurable, has to be compiled into Android so I kinda don't like it. The same is valid with custom app screens or any other solution which needs an custom Android build. So this is a last solution if nothing else works.

A good solution could be if the Appwidget framework would accept other views than the enlisted ones (AnalogClock, Button, Imageview, etc.) and the update would be done internally in the widget, not through the appwidget serialization chanels.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Get Fast Phone Charge Via Computer?

Feb 15, 2010

Was wondering if theres any way to get the fast charge that you get from the wall charger to work with a usb from computer charge. I know its "slower charge" because the computer also allows data transfer and mounting of the sd card, but maybe theres a possible way to shut that off? Also, would a double USB port cord that are used for external hard drives improve charge time at all? Two normal sized USB coming from computer to the miniUSB port on hero.

HTC Eris :: Fast Boot Flashing Recovery

Mar 25, 2010

I've got the rooted 2.1, easy. I've got all the java and adk and what not I got the flash_image and recovery.img. The command prompts all work fine till the last command, (I've tried 2 different chain of commands both work until a certain point).

adb shell mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
adb push recovery.img /sdcard
adb push flash_image /system/bin
adb shell chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
(After this one it says it cannot find flash recovery or image, cant exactly remember.)

- Open the Terminal and copy and paste the following commands with the phone connected to your computer.
- adb shell [hit enter]
- su [hit enter]
- flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-eris-v1.6.2.img (once again not found but I believe I followed correctly) this the end of commands the first half worked fine.

HTC Hero :: Phone Needs Updating

Feb 14, 2010

Last week I replaced my Treo 750 with a Hero. After spending 5 hours I converted my contacts into the Hero. I have also installed a couple of apps. I just checked the phone specifics:

Firmware Version 1.5
Build number 1.44.557.2
Software version 1.44.557.2
I assume this phone needs updating, right. Question is- what about the apps installed and contact list? Can I back them up somewhere?

HTC Desire :: Phone Hangs On Shutdown

Oct 21, 2010

im not sure why or what ive done but when i try and shut the phone down it just hangs at the "shutting down" screen for hours. it went 4 hours lastnight without shutting off. the only way to get it to stop is to pull the batt or it sometimes works to plug it into the computer with the usb cable. ive also noticed that mixzing wont read the sd card, keeps saying memory card is unavailible. could it be the same thing in both cases? the memory card is having issues? ive only had the phone for 2 weeks. i can save to and read from the card when mounted as a disc drive and i can shoot and save pics and videos as well as double twist reading from the card just fine. is there something im missing? this is driving me nuts im on telus, android 2.1, not rooted or modified in any way.

HTC Hero :: Phone Not Boot (VillainROM 10.3)

Jun 30, 2010

I am having issues having my phone boot. I was trying to get the APPS2SD to work on the phone and partitioned the SD card. this caused all of my apps to be deleted, not a big deal so i took that as an opportunity to start fresh again. So I factory reset, wiped the cache and re-flashed Villian10.3. Now the phone will not boot. It goes to the "Hero" screen then to the white "HTC quietly brilliant" screen and stays there. It seems to cycle, i.e. the screen will flash off then back to the white screen. It will however boot into recovery. Now I've tried re-wiping and reflasing and nothing seems to work. When I was using the factory wipe, it gave an error about not being able to mount the EXT partition.

HTC Hero :: Battery Performance Report - Draining Very Fast On 3G

Nov 5, 2009

I was quite frustrated earlier with my battery performance. I turned off:

- WiFi
- Bluetooth
- "Use wireless networks"
- Gmail/Email pull and Auto-sync (but leave the "Background data" on)
- "Enable GPS satellites"
- Weather update
- "Enable Always-On mobile" (but leave the "Mobile network" ticked)
- and let Twitter/Facebook to automatically update only once/twice a day.

Still the battery was draining very fast. The only thing I did not turn off is the 3G. Yesterday I decided to switch to 2G and replace the built-in SMS with Handcent SMS. To my very surprise, the battery life improves greatly. I will now do a test to see how fast it drains. I have just fully charged the unit and will update it here once I get the result.

HTC Incredible :: Updating Radio - How To Boot Into Stock Recovery And Not Clockworks Recovery

Aug 11, 2010

ok, so I put the PB31IMG file on my sdcard, and the dinc_ota. I changed dinc_ota to update. (I did not name the file update.zip.zip) I powered down, I entered bootloader, and it loaded the PB31IMG and whatever. then I hit volume down and selected recovery. this brought me to clockwork recovery. I noticed the isntructions said to boot into STOCK recovery. well, I like a dummy ignored that and tried to apply the update.zip thru clockwork.

This is what I got:

CODE:.......................

So, is this because I tried doing it through clockwork recovery? is it because I didn't apply the first OTA update we got? what does that mean exactly anyways? is it saying I need to install the leaked froyo ROM, and then update the radio? How do I boot into stock recovery and not clockworks recovery? does this count as applying the update.zip once, meening if I do it again I'll brick my phone? should I sell this thing and get a samsung flip phone because I'm too stupid to own a Dinc?

HTC Hero :: My Battery Is Draining Fast / Awake Time High

Feb 22, 2010

Before everybody redirects me to the standard "ways to extend your battery life" threads, I believe I've tried all the usual tricks, which is why I'm posting another thread. This is really starting to drive me nuts. Up until a few weeks ago, I was getting good battery life. A couple of days worth with normal usage, which I think is reasonable with all considered. But now, it lasts about half a day, which is obviously not much use when you can only charge it at night.I've been checking the "awake time" and sometimes it just keeps staying high. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. When the awake time is high, it is also warm to the touch, as if it is doing a lot of processing or something.

I've also been using "spare parts" to see what appears under "partial awake". I have never seen anything under this which accounts for the awake time. For example, the awake time might say "15 hrs", but "partial awake" in spare parts shows the biggest thing as being "Android system", but only taking "2 mins".I have (as far as I can tell) disabled the standard HTC messages app, and am now using Handcent SMS.I have turned off bluetooth and GPS, but leave wifi and mobile data on. I know switching these off saves power, but I've always had them on without as much drain as I do now.I have done a factory reset, and reinstalled all my usual apps, and left off any which I don't really need. All seemed well for a few days, but then the drain started again.

I have a feeling my battery drain is due to an update to an app, but as it's not consistent, I can't figure out which app or update it could be.As it is, with the battery lasting for less time than I am out in the day, it makes it a really rubbish phone, and just not fit for purpose. Is there any other way, other than using "spare parts", that I can tell what is using my power?

HTC Eris :: Fast And Functional Phone

Jun 26, 2010

I have been reading a lot about roms for the eris the past few days. my girlfriend has been getting frustrated with her eris's lag and how much it has seemed to slow down over the course of having it. I was just wondering what would be a stable, fast rom to make her phone snappy and her happy? I don't have any root experience yet so I'm looking for a solid out of the box rom to start with. All i would want is it to be fast and functional (so she doesn't get mad at me for messing up her phone). I've read about EE and WW. I read that EE isnt' very fast, would WW be a good choice, or is there a simpe fast one that I haven't read about yet?
