Received my HTC Desire this week and its amazing. I've ported over from another provided and it appears that Phone Information in the About Phone Section contains my temporary port number.Can this be updated? Or is this information taken from the SIM?

I am having some design techniques about How shall I schedule a code to retrieve the weather info? Should I use alarms to retrieve the weather each 10 minutes? And do I need to run a service for this? Or just put the code in the Broadcastreceiver and start when the alarm fired?

For instance id like too know information about how much space each mp3 is taking up and generally what else i have saved on there?? I also have backed up my theme i am using with launcherpro and it says this gets saved to the sd card. I have done this about 10 times as i save it everytime i tweak it but i no longer need the previous saved ones so how can i delete them?

I've tried Contact Owner but it adds the information to the 2nd unlock screen - the one with the unlock pattern. Anyone know of an app that can do this? I use iCal on the Touch and iCal on my Mac as well as the address book on both everyday and as a Mobile Me user, my two devices sync so everything is mirrored and up to date. I also HATE AT&T for their terrible signal strength and coverage and have been a loyal Verizon customer for many years and this is why I don't have an iPhone. Okay, all that being said, is there an easy way to still use everything I love and rely on with my Mac (the calender and address book, mainly) and easily sync all of my existing information and future info to an Android based device? How easy is it to use an Android device with a Mac? I don't want to have to manually re-enter my entire address book into a new device.
View 8 Replies View RelatedGot my desire yesterday, having defected from Windows Mobile and spent all yesterday and today getting very frustrated! I successfully set up my various email accounts - except one which requires a SSL outgoing SMTP server on port 465. When I put the correct settings into the setup wizard it simply fails to complete the account setup. If I change any of the fields to an incorrect parameter, it gives an error but at least lets me save the settings and exit the wizard.
With the correct settings in place - it communicates with the server stating: "Verifying account information" and then promptly does nothing (it doesn't hang up, it just returns to the SMTP screen). The only way I can get out of the wizard is to enter an incorrect setting. This means that whilst receiving emails on this account is no problem, I am unable to reply to them or send any emails from this account. I know there is nothing wrong with my ISP (T-mobile uk) because I am using the same SIM from my Touch-pro where this account worked fine for the previous 18 months.
I am on Orange so I am hoping to get the Froyo update sometime this week or the weekend. I was wondering what do I need to back up prior to updating. Will I need to back up my contacts, calendar etc? Does the upgrade wipe these?

I have tried to force it to update, removed all my subscriptions and re-added them, cleared the cache and stored data. All with various cycles of turning the phone on and off. No luck. It is now a blank widget and when I try to add RSS feeds it won't list any and effectively nothing happens when I tap the widget.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI got the update request on my phone for Froyo 2.2. I downloaded it using the WIFI. However when it came time to install it said I did not have enough memory and took me to a screen to delete some apps which I did.
After doing this I no longer get the request to upgrade and when I check to see if there any updates available (under "About Phone") it says "there are no updates available". I checked to see what the latest firmware was and it says 2.1 so I know it hasn't updated. I have no idea how to download it again and I have called Vodafone (my service provider), HTC and Carphone Warehouse (the place I got it from) to no avail.

I then deleted all contacts stored on the phone to remove duplicates.However, I now don't appear to be able to edit contacts. Changing primary contacts reverts after a few minutes, and I am unable to add new contacts to Google from my phone. It's almost as if my Desire is set to read only, or something.Any ideas?

When I updated the desire I never had the gold card in so I know this is the problem. post a link so I can download the vanilla 2.2 with sense as when I tried this morning to click on a link on here it was asking for usernames and passwords.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm pretty new to the android forum so please bare with me. I've got the DHD and I love it. But the only issue I have is these pre-installed apps such as; facebook, twitter and peep.
First of all why do i need twitter AND peep? I want to get rid of the latter and i've heard that I need to root my phone to do that. Can someone point me to a newbs step by step to rooting the DHD if such a thing exists please?
Secondly, the pre-installed apps don't have the option of updating! So as far as I can see I have to actually download these apps again from the market and then update them when they come.
The Gallery on my Desire isn't refreshing when I have copied new png files to a folder.The new folder just isn't appearing.Any ideas?The phone is using ota ROM which is stock vanilla rooted 2.2

Title says it all really, the widget worked fine until yesterday, it hasn't been updating at all automatically, and when I try to update manually, it just loads no tweets and the time at the bottom changes to present, as if it actually done something but it doesn't.
