HTC Hero :: Manually Switch Orientation Of Phone

Feb 5, 2010

I like to read on my phone at night in my bed, so even though I am holding the phone sideways I do not want the orientation to change. In phones I had in the past you can assign a button to change the orientation. Is this possible on the hero?

Samsung Galaxy S :: Way To Change The Orientation Manually?

Sep 20, 2010

I got tired of the orientation changing when I didn't want it to, such as if I'm in bed or placing it on the kitchen counter. I turned off auto-orienatation, now I want to know if there's a way to change the orientation manually. I would have thought there would be, but I can't find such a feature even after googling it.

LG Ally :: Daylight Savings - Option To Switch Clock Manually?

Oct 31, 2010

I woke up this morning to find that my Ally has the wrong time in the notification bar, as well as one of the widgets that i have for an alarm which shows when the next alarm comes up. however, the correct time shows in the weather widget. as it is Sunday morning, i looked up daylight savings and noticed that the clocks in Europe get set back an hour today. could my phone somehow be in European mode or something? maybe an android 2.1 glitch, since it came out after the last fall switch if I recall and therefore may not have been tested for a problem like this. I can't find an option to switch the clock manually anywhere, is there a way to fix this or do i just wait a week for the US daylight savings to click in?

Motorola Milestone :: Manually Rotate Screen Or Keep / Fix Current Screen Orientation

May 29, 2010

is it possible to manually rotate the screen or fix the current screen orientation (with a key/button)? because it really annoys me having taken portrait pictures that cannot be viewed (with the media gallery application) in a portrait fashion on the milestone. this is because it always rotates the portrait picture back to landscape when rotating the milestone from landscape to portrait. right now there is no way of properly viewing portrait pictures on the milestone other than tilting your head (holding the milestone landscape and tilting your head along).this cannot be the way it was intended to be, right? or do I have to get a different viewing software which allows you to choose screen orientation? is there such an app?

HTC Hero :: Can't 'switch Off' Screen And Put Phone In Pocket And Call While Walking

Oct 6, 2009

I've switched from the iPhone to the Hero a week ago. I really like the Hero, even though some functions are better on the iphone (like the musci player).
There is one Issue however, which is really bugging me with the HTC, which might make me switch back to the iPHone if I can't find a solution.

Problem:
When I call with my headset (Not the original ones, I don't have huge ear holes....) I can't "switch off" the screen and put the phone in my pocket and call while walking... This sucks, as I have to hold the phone in my hands, which kind of kills the idea of having a headset.

Android :: Android - Screen Orientation Change To Switch Between Activities

Nov 12, 2010

I'm new to Android development. I'm trying to use the orientation change to switch between two activities. My idea is to use three Activities one TabActivity and a normal Activity. Here is some pseudo code:

public class Main extends Activity{
// this is the entry point into my app
@Override
public void onCreate(...){
if(this.getResources().getConfiguration().orientation == Configuration.ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE){
// Start Activity1
} else { //Start Activity2}..............

I'm taking a different approach. As i need a TabActivity, because i want to be able to start different activities in my tabs (I think i have to use a TabActivity in this case). I've edited the Manifest.xml and added android.configChanges="orientation" for the TabActivity and the second Activity. Then I've overridden the onConfigurationChanged() functions. With this approach I'm able to switch from landscape (this is the "normal" activity") to portrait (the TabActivity). The other way round does not work and i don't know why yet. I've exactly the same onConfigurationChanged functions (Copy & Pasted) and only changed the essential parts. Overriding the onConfigurationChanged of the Activities started in the tabs has no effect, too.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Floating Image App / Orientation On Hero?

Mar 3, 2010

I saw a post on here the other day about the screen orientation from landscape to portrait. This app which is free from the market, is unbelievable. Rotating the phone is super quick, with no lag like the normal rotation. Will the rotation be more like it is on floating image with 2.1? Or can Dev's take anything from this app and make the rotation orientation better for normal use on the hero?

My question: does anyone know how I can manually update to the new market again? The phone did it automatically before, so now I don't know how to get the "new" market.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Manually Export Contacts From Device?

Apr 12, 2010

Through a couple boneheaded mishaps when moving to one of the 2.1 ROMs, I managed to wipe out all my Outlook contacts I had stored on my company's exchange server.

I won't go into all the details, but it happened when I tried to restore some data I had backed up before upgrading to the new ROM, and I forgot to uncheck "contacts" from the stuff I was restoring. Some process croaked when the restore was done, causing some silliness with my Google contacts, but also wiping out my Exchange contacts on the phone as well as on the server.

The good news is I have a full NAND backup from before I upgraded the ROM, so I can jump back to that to access my contacts. Problem is, I can't get them to sync remotely with the Exchange server. They also won't sync (or "reverse-sync" if that is the correct term) with Outlook when I use the latest version of the HTC Sync software.

So basically, I can't find a way to move the contacts from the phone to the Exchange server. What I want to do is get those contacts from my old NAND backup, move them to Outlook/Exchange, and then have them sync 'naturally' from the Exchange server to my phone, while running the new ROM I have installed.

I'm okay with having to do a NAND backup of what I'm currently running, restore the old backup to extract the contacts somehow, and then restoring the 'new' NAND backup, but I can't figure out how to manually copy the contacts so I can then import them into Outlook.

Android :: Orientation Change - Dialog Above Activity With Fixed Orientation

May 14, 2009

I have created an activity for my game which handles all orientation changes by itself and has a fixed "portrait" layout. Actually it uses the accelerometer and is rendered using 2D canvas methods. If the level has been completed I show up a highscore dialog in which the user can enter his name. The dialog is floating above the underlying level screen which gets blurred out nicely. This generally works.

Problem is that the dialog does not get rotated if the orientation of the phone changes. So even if the keyboard is exposed the dialog is shown in portrait mode instead of landscape. I have tried to use an activity with dialog theme instead but the behavior didn't change. After several tries it seems that I have found the reason for this: Once there's an activity with fixed orientation in the activity stack then all subsequent activities keep this orientation, too. They will not react on orientation changes anymore (e.g. if the keyboard gets exposed).

After upgrading to 1.5 SDK the described behavior changed a little bit. Now at subactivities indead react on orientation changes like expected. However, the need to have an opaque background! That means that neither dialogs nor activities with dialog theme will work. Those will stick with the orientation of the underlaying activity. So my workaround is to first start a sub-activity with an opaque black background. This activity then shows my highscore dialog on top. It looks quite okay but I wonder if there's a better solution? Is it possible to show a dialog above a fixed portrait or landscape activity which automatically adapts to orientation changes?

Sprint HTC Hero : Weather Widget - Doesn't Work Even If Try To Manually Update

Jan 11, 2010

I'm having a problem with the clock/weather widget on my Hero. I have it set to Current City and I noticed the other day that the weather wasn't updating. ( I live in Long Beach, CA) It was stuck on one weather. I especially noticed when it still said partly sunny at 11pm. It doesn't work even if i try to manually update.

I thought it was just the current city function that was having trouble registering but when I go to other cities nearby it updates fine. And when I specifically set it to Long Beach, CA, it was still stuck and not updating.

Anyone else having this problem? Is there something wrong with the weather equipment in Long Beach?

HTC 4G :: Want To Switch From Hero To EVO?

Jun 24, 2010

I have been using the HTC Hero for sprint for about three weeks. Overall it has worked fine for me. Only problems I've had is is difficulty with using the keypad at times (wrong key getting pressed)and occasional phone lagging. all the great reviews I've been reading I have been considering upgrading to the EVO. My son got the EVO two weeks ago and has been having a nightmare with the battery draining very quickly and the phone shutting itself off at times. He just exchanged his EVO for a new one yesterday. I'm wondering if I'm just setting myself up for headaches making the move to an EVO. This is further complicated that because I am at the end of my 30 day trial period I would not have time to switch back if the EVO didn't turn out to be a good thing. All feedback greatly appreciated.

Motorola Droid X :: How To Manually Deodex Your Phone

Aug 25, 2010

This is a guide on manually deodexing, you phone. The reason I am making this tutorial is because I could not get my theme to work with Teenfaces deodexed android. You may want to follows this if you have the same probalem as me, or if you just want to take a shot at doing it.

What you'll need:
A Windows based machine
xUltimate v2.2
Patience

Process:
Unzip xUltimate v2.2, and launch "Main.exe"
If everything goes well you xUlt should recognize the phone and make a connection. You now should see a list of options.
Run option 1. After option 1 is done, run option 2.
Now these well take a while. Run option 3.
IMPORTANT: After you have run option 3, you MUST navigate to the xUltimate folder and find "origi_frame" folder, and delete "guava.odex". It's a bad file, and interferes with deodexing process.
Now run option 4, and wait.
Exit xUltimate, and put the phone in USB mass storage.
Go back into the xUltimate folder and copy "done_frame", and "done_app", and move them to the root of the sdcard.
Open a command prompt, and do the following:
