View 4 RepliesThis is excellent. I was feeling slightly overwhelmed since I got my Hero due to all the possibilities for apps/customising etc - but this thread has made it a lot easier to work things out. Would still like to have an easy way of editing my contacts though. Brought them over from my old sim and the names are messed up and numbers missing etc. I thought there might have been a way to do it on my PC, but not looked for anything yet.

I have tried to synchronize the phone using HTC Sync (HTC Hero - HTC Sync upgrade for HTC Magic, Hero &Tattoo) but the phone do not react when i have connected using USB cable same as the HTC Sync. View 15 Replies View RelatedI bought a new HTC hero last week, but I'm not sure if I need the "ROM version 2.73.405.5 update" available of the HTC website?? My build number is 1.76.405.6 , is that the old one?
If so, how do I back all my data? Do I need to take out the memory card before updating? And I also have a contract i.e. pay monthly, so do I need to take out the sim card because on the website it says: "This is a generic software update. Any additional software or settings provided by your mobile operator or company will be lost. If you require this customization, please contact your supplier first before upgrading."
My Hero won't start after applying the second upgrade, the 3.32 (the one containing android 2.1) the first one installed fine. The phone downloaded the update via WiFi and when I choose to install it, the phone rebooted and I saw the progress bar finishing, but afterwards I got an exclamation mark in a triangle, and the phone locked up. I then had to remove the battery to turn off the phone and apply the 2.73.405.6 ROM from HTC.com via fastboot usb.
The phone is fully charged, not rootet, and ive tried downgrading and upgrading it 3 times with the same result. I even called the HTC Hotline and got a hold in a nice female supporter whom was cleary not choosen for her technical skills, she didn't even know how to restore the phone via fastboot. She was also unable to answer why they didn't have a ROM (exe) installer for the 3.32 upgrade.
So basically my girlfriend did an update of her Android OS today, installed, the phone restarted automatically, started loading something and the loading bar stayed at 3/4 for like 2hrs. So she tried to turn it off using the button but didn't work so she took out the battery. Then after turning it on, the phone stays at the "Hero" homescreen and doesn't do anything. So I was thinking, is there a way to reinstall android on it? If so, where can I download the OS?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have the HTC Hero/T-Mobile G2 Touch and I still do not have the latest firmware 2.1 update on it. I've got as far as changing the year to 2013 and it brings up the request to update the phone. I select to update it and it turns off my phone to install.
It then loads but stops half-way and it just shows a white triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle with an image of a phone underneath. The update does not continue from there. I've tried it at least 4 times and it's done the same every time.
I am getting calls going straight to voicemail with no missed calls on my phone, when I have full signal, so orange have (after a lot of calls) agreed to terminate my contract. I have to return my phone (shame I could not keep it for free!) and have rooted my phone, and installed the modaco ROM.
I want to return it with an orange ROM, and was wondering if I can just install the updated orange ROM on my phone over the top of the modaco, and has anyone done this successfully? From reading around I am assuming that this would hide the fact that I have ever rooted or installed a custom ROM, as I want to be back on warranty?
I have rooted my phone just to delete some of the sprint crap apps. Now my question is since I did not flash a custom ROM on to my device will I be able to update the phone when Sprint releases the OTA Update or will I have to use the RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.56.651.2_signed_release.exe to put my phone back to factory stock. (Also can I just do a hard reset to accomplish the same thing).
The Apps I removed:
Sprint Nascar
Stocks
Amazon Mp3
OK, so why do I not see anyone else commenting on this? I have owned several cell phones in the past that needed updates. NONE of these phones ever needed to be backed up prior to updating because an update resets your phone. STUPID! I simply don't have the time to do so and then try to reset up my phone the way I spent so much time doing the first time. This update should be available on the settings menu and definitely should not require backup.

The handset itself is unbranded, my question is, which software update shall i download from the HTC website? Does the Orange software update imporve any functionality on the Orange network? or shall I just download the HTC update and avoid any nasty Orange GUI?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAnyone notice that after the update, when they charge their phone, the phone stays awake the whole time and starts getting really hot?? There was an option to make the phone go to sleep in 1.5 while charging, but is there also that same option on 2.1?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOk, my phone worked perfectly before I installed 2.1. I did a hard reset before I installed 2.1. It ran fine for about 20 minutes while I played with all the new features (I really like 2.1 when its working) but literally about every 20 minutes when I check my phone, the damn thing is OFF. Its really pissing me off. So I turn it back on, and within 20 minutes its off again. Im about to smash this damn thing. I've reinstalled 2.1 twice, hard reset, soft reset, and every combination of the 3. WTF is the problem!?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI just updated my phone to 2.1. What happened, was this: reboot, then the yellow bar was filling itself. So far so good. After the yellow bar was filled 100%, it took a while, and after that the box icon changed into a white triangle with a yellow exclamation mark. The yellow progress bar disappeared. I waited 10-15 minutes, display didn't change. After that I removed the battery, waited a while, plugged it back in. Pressed power button, and the result was "HERO" nothing more. Waited a long time. Nothing happened. So now I have a broken phone, with nothing working. Does someone have any clues on how to fix this?

I can see there is some old threads about auto updates, but I cant find any answers.
I wonder if there is a way to auto update all my applications. I take too much time go to marked, downloads and manually update 1 by 1..
I went through all the troubleshooting steps in the "Update Available From Sprint" thread, making sure I was on v1.29.651.1, yada yada. Worked on this for a week and a half. Spoke with Sprint, spoke with HTC, no luck. Going to firmware update always reported NO UPDATE AVAILABLE.
Took the phone back to Best Buy and demanded an exchange. After receiving the new phone, went to try to firmware update, it showed that one was available. I asked for my old battery back since it was charged fully so that I could do the update. Put my old battery back in, went to update, NO UPDATE AVAILABLE!
Turns out it was my battery? Put the new one back in and the update was successful. I had scoured the net before but did not notice anyone with this particular issue. I
please forgive my stupid question but i'm new to android after coming over from the horror of windows mobile i just got an unlocked hero off ebay with orange branded firmware (only noticable on startup splash screen) (build number 2.73.61.66 / i can only find mention of it in an italian forum!)am i right in thinking that when the new 2.1 update comes out, i can get it off the htc site and install it on the phone regardless of the orange branding, or do i have to wait for the orange update (i assume this only applies to orange customers?) in which case i'll be going down the rooting/custom rom route.i've been lurking here for the past 2 weeks and learnt so much, great forum, and i have to say i am absolutely smitten with the hero, it's astonishing

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an X10 Mini that when new was locked to the Orange UK network but I have since unlocked (but not unbranded) it and now use a different network. Which Android 2.1 update will I need? Generic, Orange or the new network provider? If it is the generic one will this also have the benefit of unbranding the phone and getting rid of Orange apps? If it is the Orange upgrade will the phone become locked to their network again and require unlocking again?I need the phone to stay unlocked for the future.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI updated the phone to 2.1 earlier, but it's still at 1.6... when I connected to PC Companion prior to the 'update' it said my phone was up-to date so I'm convinced I didn't actually update anything?
When should I be prompted that an update is available via PC Companion? because when I look in the phone settings and check for updates it says there's one available, but not on PCC?
I am running a Telus Hero on AT&T's network. I know other people are also doing this as well. I was thinking about the 2.1 update due out and was wondering what us unlocked Telus Hero owners should do to get it when it is released. I emailed HTC, and they said this. Quote:
