I am still on custom rom and thinking if i should got and update with Orange ROM? what is the difference vs these 2 rom? any speed performance on orange or both the same and any new features? also when update to orange rom .. will u get orange boot screen too?

I'm the proud owner of an unlocked orange uk hero running on t mobile Austria network. I have heard that the newer heroes cant be unlocked because orange have made a deal with htc and changed the codes. I must have been lucky because mine unlocked no problem with the code received from the impel number. My question is if i update the Rom with the orange Rom version on the htc homepage will my phone become Sim locked again, and more worrying will i not be able to unlock it again when it has the new Rom on it?

Obviously, I can't try it myself, but it would seem Orange users can now upgrade in a more... official manner (thanks to Centaur291173 over on the XDA forums for actually posting about it).
my Orange UK Hero upgrade to 2.1 went well. Problem since then though with the device losing all mobile signal after a period. I go to use the phone and notice no service at all. Reboot and it finds network immediately and all fine. Any thoughts? It is a royal pain with me having to check if it is in coverage or not. Other Orange phones in same location (my house) are fine.

Ive pressed the check for updates button in the setting a few time and nothing, ive put the date a couple months forward aswell as a year forward, and again nothing, ive also pressed the update button will the date put forward, and that didnt work either.

Please try again.It asks me to force quit. I have turned it off waited for half an hour, turned it on again and its still all the same!Can anyone help?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to update my 1.5 hero on Orange. I first need to update to the latest ROM .66 which I am trying to do. HTC Sync thinks my phone is connected to PC and I have downloaded the ROM upgrade from HTC.
When I run the upgrade it says it is Verifying the Information on my Phone.....then says it is not connected. Can anyone suggest a reason for this as I really want to update to 2.1.
Update: This does not work DO NOT EVEN TRY!

This is the same update will go to Orange. apart from Orange will update and add their on logos' and crap.
I've done a search but I can't find a definitive answer.I got the unlock code but it just stays on the unlocking sim screen as per buggy Orange ROM.I don't have an Orange SIM though so is it possible to unlock it without this or will I have to source a SIM?
View 16 Replies View RelatedI followed the guide to the letter (gold carded) and received the Network locked screen after installing the HTC ROM ending 405.5 and receiving the updates for 2.1. By the way my Hero is Orange branded with Orange SIM and the product number is 99HHM022-00. Apart from waiting for Orange to release the update, whats my options? Read through numerous threads, but I'm confused whether an unlock code would work or whether its just better to bite the bullet and go for a Villain ROM that allows apps to install to SD cards. IF I was to go for a Villian ROM would that contain a compatible radio for my Orange phone, and would the Villain ROM work on my Orange branded Hero by just following their guide? I dont really want to have to wipe my phone again if its not going to work, so was just asking you guys for advice?

I have a great wifi signal but when i try and go onto the Internet IE goggle etc i just get a default orange message saying it needs to go onto an orange network to access the Internet. Ive set the default homepage to Google but nothing loads.

Orange insisted i had to be a customer for 3 months before they would give me a code but still would not refund the 20 they originally took for the code. So now i am trying to spread the word that it can be done pretty quickly for less than 10. Always a good idea to have HTC Sync (you can get this on the HTC website).

So far i am enjoying the updated UI however, i have noticed some changes, for instance, before i could easily assign ringtones to anyone now when i try to assign tones that are saved on my sd card to specific contacts it will not allow me to do so. The phone now only lets me set a default tone which can be any tone (sd card or factory) but all contacts have this tone & i cannot assign specific tones for certain contacts.

Today, I installed universal one-click root app onto my phone from this link : [APP] [ROOT] 1-click root for N1 (Latest ver: 1.6.2 beta 5) - xda-developers and I believe I got my phone rooted. Now, I am hoping to get custom recovery image installed on my phone so that I can nandroid back up my current stock 2.1 based image before installing CM6. I was hoping to try clockworkmod through ROM Manager app. Does this image work in HTC Hero ? If not, is there any other recovery image that I should try for my 2.1 hero ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've seen a few threads from people having issues with the latest orange rom (2.73.61.66) but have yet to find anyone with the issue i'm having.
Basically, i keep getting an error message saying something like:
"this process has stopped unexpectedly"
giving the only option to force close. When it is force closed the same message pops up again. and again. and again. The only way to stop it is to either battle against the message and hope you can hit the power down button, or to pop the battery.
Sometimes it throws up other messages similar to the above one but for specific applications (ie sense, google talk..whatever..) but these never come alone, they always bring the original force close message.
Anyway, i've been onto orange and, tho i'm very pissed off, they have been good. they set me a replacement handset in less than 24 hrs (as they thought it might be a screen malfunction) which i was buzzing over until i got the same message! gutted. After talking to their tech support he suggested a hard reset followed by not adding any apps to the phone, so now i have a stock hero with stock apps and i'm waiting to see if i get a similar message...but in the mean time does anyone know of any possible conflicting applications? here is a list of the market apps i have used:

Don't know if this has been mentioned but Orange maps is now available to download for the Hero. Working a treat on mine

What's your opinion about this one, good & bad points, and if there are better Roms to choose, more battery time, and all features working, like google maps, sat nav, etc. I'm a bit new to this, and trying to find my way around.
View 5 Replies View RelatedReceived a voicemail on my orange hero yesterday, so dragged the icon down from the top left of screen to activate the voicemail which it did as advertised. Once the phone connected to orange voicemail, the little green android appeared on the screen as normal due to the fact that a call was in progress. I was then given the normal options by the voicemail recorded message, PRESS 1 FOR ect. So here's my question! how the hell do you access the keypad to make the options? Iv'e tried every option I can think of! It appears that you can't do anything if the phone is in a call.

View 5 Replies View RelatedFlashed villain today, all working fine. Like a plank, I didn't back up my Orange Maps app cos I thought I'd D'L it again from Orange once villain5.3 was working ok. Since the new ROM has been on, I go to the D'L link on Oranges' website, but it says my phone is not compliant and Orange Maps won't work on my phone.
