Oct 8, 2010I just bought myself a brand-spanking new Samsung Vibrant from T-mobile the other day. I was then informed that the JI6 update was being pushed out via OTA. Only problem is, my plan was to use this thing via wifi only (I bought a 1 month voice-only Flex Plan to activate it). According to T-mobile, if I want any updates, my only choice is to switch over to a monthly data plan (big old $70 a month bill). So I turn to the experts on these forums... is there a way to install these updates manually over wifi? Or is it time to take the phone back?

Oct 20, 2010I installed the new OTA update for my Vibrant, and now my phone is having some very serious lag issues. I did not have any problems with lag until after this update, and now my phone is constantly lagging, even when I'm texting. Is anyone else having this problem? As for the GPS fix, I don't really see a difference. The GPS on google maps is still off, and as slow as ever, and the Navigation app works for awhile, and then sometimes will go crazy... What exactly was this "update" supposed to fix?

Oct 9, 2010So I have updated my phone through T-mobile yesterday after I received service message and the phone never got past the "samsung vibrant" screen, it stays here after it plays the welcoming melody. After that, it simply won't start. I have tried hard reboot, factory reset, nothing worked. Did this happen to some of you as well? Any ideas how to get my phone working again?

Oct 3, 2010Sorry if this has been answered, but I haven't found any many solutions through Google or this forum. The OTA update for the Samsung Captivate (that was supposed to fix the GPS and a couple other bugs) isn't working on my [rooted] phone. I am able to download it, but it says that the process failed after my phone restarts. Luckily, it doesn't brick my phone like it has done to some other people's phones. From what I can gather, it doesn't fail because the phone is rooted but because some of the stock AT&T apps have been removed. Is this the problem? If so, is there any place I can download those stock apps (AT&T Navigator, Where, Mobile Banking, etc.) and reload them onto my phone?

If you read through that page there is a guy on there who is talking to someone at Clove Technology who is supposedly talking to someone from Samsung. What they are saying is that the fixes will be bundled with Froyo and hoping for an end of September update.

May 10, 2010I am new to this whole droid scene and I had 2.0.1 rooted and rommed out but I am currently running stock 2.1 and wanted to know if there is any info on the progress of a new root process to root this firmware version. I really liked having the ability to control all aspects of my phone, including the nandroid recovery. I don't want to risk bricking my phone by trying to revert back to 2.0.1 using the RSD program.

Sep 8, 2010I'm looking at sending my phone back in to TMO, but I don't want there to be a trace of anything. I rooted via the update.zip and flashed Clockwork, but haven't flashed any other roms or anything.
I was curious, is there a way to flash back to the stock recovery? Or would uninstalling Rom Manager, then unrooting via terminal, have the same effect?

Aug 6, 2010I got the Galaxy from my mother (she switched to another phone), but she lost the USBcable. I found a way of sending files via WiFi to the sdcard, and also connected adb via WiFi, but I can't flash the new recovery because I'd have no WiFi connection in fastboot. Is there a way to flash an official update from the sdcard using stock recovery? I successfully entered recovery but there are no options, and I can't find a guide of any kind. I tried buying the cable, but none of the shops had the official one, so finally I bought a third party cable that only charges the phone through usb, but windows gives me some error and doesn't recognize it as a device.

Sep 24, 2010Ok, so I may be leaving the USA soon. I plan on unlocking my phone and going out of the country with it. I don't know how long I may be gone.maybe years, so here are a few questions.
1. I plan on going South Africa. According to this site, both the phone and 3g should work perfectly right? GSM World Coverage Map- GSM Country List by frequency bands
2. I have seen an app to unlock the Vibrant. It is by DaGentooBoy from XDA. Its called Samsung Galxy S Unlock. Would it be better for me to use this app or to just request T-Mobile to give me the unlock code. Are there any pros or cons for using either method.
3. If the OTA update or Froyo don't come out before I am gone, will I be able to get an OTA over wifi while I am in South Africa. Just to clarify, I will be using a local sim over there. I will discontinue from tmobile when I leave the US I know nothing of rooting. This is my first smartphone, so if possible I would be hesitant of doing any updates via the computer that requires me to loose all my info. I have too many apps and saved games and settings to download again so its just a scary thought of loosing it all.
4. Will google navigation work overseas. I have heard people say yes and no. I am hesitant to buy apps like co-pilot as they cost a lot and have mixed reviews, so I wanted to find out about this.

Oct 26, 2010After struggling along with everyone else with my GPS, I finally got the OTA update a little over a week ago. After updating, GPS seemed to be working better (not perfectly, but better). Then yesterday out of the blue it completely ceased to work. It stays permanently "searching for GPS".
Before getting the update I did use the LBSTestMode work around, but am now unable to access the settings in the same way I did before to reset to original settings...perhaps it is the workaround settings causing the problem now? (And without GPS that could become literal at any moment!)

I downloaded an app from the market which is one click lag fix(RyanZA's) and accidentally tapped a button which says: root your phone it took few seconds and said that my phone is rooted. Is there anything that I can do to know if my phone is really booted or not?
I downloaded the titanium back as what was said in there and upon opening it an Error message comes up: "sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will not work! please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes busybox and try again". Does that mean my phone is not rooted?
