I was wondering if it is possible to give the HTC Hero a network name. For example when i look at my routers status it lists all connected devices. My-PC, Sister-PC ect... and the MAC address of each device, as it should.
However the HTC Hero name field is left blank. I know it is the Hero seeing as the MAC matches the device. Does anyone know if it's possible to give the phone a network name?

I got the chomp sms [i really love it, btw] but it only seems to give me my texts when i have my phone screen on..does anyone else have this problem..? cause i want to use this app but im iffy about not getting my text. please help. thanks! and one more thing..does anyone use the different color LED light for the text? cause i tried setting it to another color besides green but it doesn't work. it just turns green still..im also using a HTC hero.
View 12 Replies View RelatedSo I've rooted my Hero, flashed a custom ROM, flashed a custom kernel, and then I downloaded some root-requiring apps (namely setCPU and Wifi Tether). However, whenever I open these apps, they do not ask me for Superuser Permissions!
For example, when I open setCPU, it says "No root access detected. Are applications allowed access to root? Operating in read-only mode." How do I fix this?
Well Sprint pissed of a co-worker of mine after a few days after the 30 day mark and now wants nothing to do with Sprint. He loves the phone but like I said will have nothing to do with Sprint network. So I am wondering if he has any options with using it on any other network by possibly flashing the phone or something.
I believe he has settled everything with Spring paid the early termination fees and payed up on his bills. So does he have any options now?
I am going to NewYork in Sept,will I only be able to use my hero on the 2g network ? Will it still update weather etc on 2g and do Google maps work on the 2g network ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI wanted to see if anybody had some advice on the 1.29-1.56 update. I have tried several times including multiple hard resets to get my device to update. Each time the update downloads successfully but after the phone restarts and shows the progress bar unzipping the package it stops halfway and shows the phone with a triangle and a yellow exclamation point.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have finally figured out why I don't always get a notification for new mails on my HTC Hero.
I have setup an Exchange account for the build in mail application that comes with the phone, and I want it to give me a notification when I receive a new e-mail.
This will however only happen if the mail ends up in the Inbox folder in my Exchange account.
I do not get any notification if I have a rule that moves the mail automatically to a sub folder in the Inbox.
I like to sort my mails using a folder for each sender and I use the rules in Outlook to do this automatically, but this prevents the notification feature in the HTC Hero mail application from working.
I can still refresh a folder in the phone mail program and download all received mails, but no notifications and I have to do this manually.
It seems to me that the Inbox folder is only folder to be updated automatically by the ActiveSync connection.
I have my Data Syncronization settings set to As Items Arrive.
So do any of you out there know how to get the mail program to download all new mails as they arrive and give a notification on the phone, not matter what folder the mail ends up in on the Echange server?
I couldn't find any threads on this topic but im sure its been asked so sorry in advance. Is there anyway to change my settings on my HERO to work on 3G for AT T network? or is it a hardware issue that im stuck with? then again i hear EDGE is about the same in terms of speed?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI wanted to ask you if there are some must do's after upgrading to 2.1.Since upgrading..the phone is very laggy and sometimes the network will just drop.I won't be able to surf or use any programs that require getting on the internet.Is there something I can do now that I'm on 2.1 to restore it's speed? Should I do a reset to the phone and then upgrade to 2.1?What have you guys done to speed up the phone?
View 8 Replies View RelatedNot really a "problem" per se, but an annoyance.I ported my number across to Orange from Voda but in the Phone Status the MSISDN field is still displaying the old number. It's not that I can't remember my number (it's a memorable no. which is why I wanted to keep it), but it's annoying me as I can't seem to get this field to reflect the change.I've tried rebooting it after leaving the SIM out but no difference.Is this just a "bug" or is it something Orange will have to fix/update for me by sending a request to my SIM or something?

Now when I try and check emails from my captivate it says invalid user name or password. When I try to go to setting it doesn't giver me the option to change password for the phone. View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently tried to root my HTC desire using UNrevoked 3.1. Everything was going well and I even had the desktop gui tell me that the process was "done", however the phone never made it into the green and black recovery menu, and now when I try and enter the recovery menu the phone gives a black screen. I then have to do a hard reset by taking out the battery. I have tried running unrevoked again with the same results and have tried using Rom manager to enter recovery this way, niether of which have helped.
I've spent alot of time searching without answers, if any one thinks they can help or just point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

I'm in South America, and I bought my X10 Mini in a sales opportunity for a low price but branded for one company.I want to debrand it, but i want to know if in the future, when the 2.1 Android Patch is released... will i have any trouble? Since I only have 250 MB included in my plan, I would much rather have the phone on wifi only when I'm at home Problem is, when I turn data network back on, it says "network not available". The only workaround seems to be turning the phone off completely and rebooting. SLOW.By the way, this happens both with the excellent app Quick Settings and the normal Parameters Phone App.I saw someone having similar issues regarding Wifi On/Offwith a Sprint Hero.

I've found a deal online on 3 mobile network that says �23.45 (previously �35) for the white model which i do prefer but once again i am not sure if this includes sat nav and 3G? I would like to know if an Android application can open a network connection (socket) on a specified network interface [on a device supporting multiple network interface types WiFi, Cellular, WiMax etc] ? I am looking for the capability for an application to open a socket on a given type of network for example over WiFi network or over 3G Cellular Data network.
If this is possible in Android, how would I code this requirement within the API Framework ? The ConnectivityManager enables an application to learn about available network connections and currently categorises them as either TYPE_WIFI or TYPE_MOBILE.
There is a member function in the ConnectivityManager class called requestRouteToHost(int,int) [url] which "Ensure that a network route exists to deliver traffic to the specified host via the specified network interface. An attempt to add a route that already exists is ignored, but treated as successful." Sounds like this would install an IP routing table entry to reach a given host via a specified network interface type (WiFi or Mobile). After calling this would it be sufficient for an application to open a socket and connect to the desired destination address ?
Or perhaps the application needs to bind() a socket to a local address of a network interface of the desired type (WiFi or Mobile) Or by setting a socket-level socket option of SO_DONTROUTE ?
i got a new htc her and my network provider did the APN settings everything seem to work fine, mails, google mail, facebook , twitter - all services work well on both 3G and WIFI.ONLY THE BROWSER WORKS ON WIFI AND NOT ON THE 3G when i open browser on 3g it tells me PAGE NOT AVAILABLE.
