View 4 RepliesI have been trying to find a way of quickly switching off/on the Mobile Network setting from the home screen. When searching Google there's loads of pages stating that it is an HTC Widget that can be added. I have checked all the widgets on the Desire HD and cannot seem to find it anywhere. I am using an unbranded handset.
The Desire HD manual even states "You can also add widgets that allow you to quickly switch on or off certain settings of your phone, such as Wi-Fi, Mobile Network...".
Does anyone else with an HD handset have this widget ?
Tried too root my three network HTC but its not happening what ever guide i use. Is three preventing use from doing this and if so is there a way around it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have had some issues concerning turning data management back on. Since I only have 250 MB included in my plan, I would much rather have the phone on wifi only when I'm at home Problem is, when I turn data network back on, it says "network not available". The only workaround seems to be turning the phone off completely and rebooting. SLOW.By the way, this happens both with the excellent app Quick Settings and the normal Parameters Phone App.I saw someone having similar issues regarding Wifi On/Offwith a Sprint Hero.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI am having this error since last two weeks "Your SIM does not allow connection to this network." I have tried everything to the best of my knowledge:
- Reset Phone (Soft & Factory Settings both)
- Rooted Phone
- AnyCut application to reset Radio
- Updated radio to 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26-signed
I bought my Hero yesterday, so I'm very new to the Android platform...I'm connected to the LAN at work via wifi. I'm curious to know if there's a way to map network drives or access network shares on a PC connected to the same LAN. It'd be nice to be able to access the office documents using my phone.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe best way to go with rooting, based on the info below please? From a thread I read ages ago (that I can't find now), I seem to remember that the Hero on the 3 network has to be downgraded and something about a gold card. Is this correct? I just want to make sure I'm following the right instructions before I start!

I've found a deal online on 3 mobile network that says 23.45 (previously 35) for the white model which i do prefer but once again i am not sure if this includes sat nav and 3G? So overall i'm looking for the best deal which includes the white model with sat nav and 3G. Orange have told me they only supply the graphite model but I am not certain if 3 mobile include 3G on thier model.

View 49 Replies View RelatedI have been looking at the ConnectivityManager class documented at http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/ConnectivityManage... .
I would like to know if an Android application can open a network connection (socket) on a specified network interface [on a device supporting multiple network interface types WiFi, Cellular, WiMax etc] ? I am looking for the capability for an application to open a socket on a given type of network for example over WiFi network or over 3G Cellular Data network.
If this is possible in Android, how would I code this requirement within the API Framework ? The ConnectivityManager enables an application to learn about available network connections and currently categorises them as either TYPE_WIFI or TYPE_MOBILE.
There is a member function in the ConnectivityManager class called requestRouteToHost(int, int) [url] which "Ensure that a network route exists to deliver traffic to the specified host via the specified network interface. An attempt to add a route that already exists is ignored, but treated as successful." Sounds like this would install an IP routing table entry to reach a given host via a specified network interface type (WiFi or Mobile). After calling this would it be sufficient for an application to open a socket and connect to the desired destination address ?
Or perhaps the application needs to bind() a socket to a local address of a network interface of the desired type (WiFi or Mobile) Or by setting a socket-level socket option of SO_DONTROUTE ?
My application for the most part prefers to be online, I have of course added an offline mode so that it works perfectly well when not attached and then re-syncs when connected again.I do, however, have an issue with the initial start of the main activity "black screening" on me while (i assume) it is waiting on a TCP timeout. It would be nice to query and skip the download step if the network is super slow.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to use my Hero (unlocked, unbranded UK version, 2.73 software on T-Mobile) to access the net when out and about with my MacBook (10.6 SnowLeopard).
Will this work just by connecting a USB cable and enabling mobile betwork sharing, or am I going to need the PDANet app?
(I know I could just try this when I get home, but I'm sure someone else must have tried and can save me the trouble )

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having a few issues with my Hero on Vodafone and am looking to see if anyone else has ever experienced any similar issues, as they're starting to drive me crazy!First and foremost is an issue of trying to dial out and make a call. A simple function that's failing to play ball.Basically I try to make phone calls and the phone just beeps and refuses to do even try, it just simply ends the attempt. This has been happening for the past few months and I've found the remedy to be simply switching off the mobile network option. However this is highly annoying when trying to make a call in hurry, or having done this not being able to have apps running in the background as I've forgotten to turn the network back on!I am having this issue even when there are no downloaded apps running at all, simply the com.htc.provider/calendar/messages, etc. I am using TasKiller to monitor this and therefore there should be NO mobile network activity.Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated. Finally has anyone been able to get mms to work on the Vodafone network yet? I've have tweaked the APN's sooo many times and have tried the settings that are in the sticked thread. Any thoughts, as Vodafone and HTC support offer no help whatsoever.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWell Sprint pissed of a co-worker of mine after a few days after the 30 day mark and now wants nothing to do with Sprint. He loves the phone but like I said will have nothing to do with Sprint network. So I am wondering if he has any options with using it on any other network by possibly flashing the phone or something.
I believe he has settled everything with Spring paid the early termination fees and payed up on his bills. So does he have any options now?
I was wondering if it is possible to give the HTC Hero a network name. For example when i look at my routers status it lists all connected devices. My-PC, Sister-PC ect... and the MAC address of each device, as it should.
However the HTC Hero name field is left blank. I know it is the Hero seeing as the MAC matches the device. Does anyone know if it's possible to give the phone a network name?
I am going to NewYork in Sept, will I only be able to use my hero on the 2g network ? Will it still update weather etc on 2g and do Google maps work on the 2g network ?
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have the newest firmware and everything is fine and i did read the "how to's" before posting this. i'm on sprint and i've got unlimited everything. i tried the "internet sharing" thing when i plugged it in to my computer (all htc sync software and drivers installed) and i kept getting a data call failure so i thought sprint disabled that feature. i was messing with the wifi on my phone and i connected to my router, then when i plugged it in i tried the "internet sharing" option again this time it worked. but, as in the "how to" it doesn't have the little 3g symbol beside the clock. all it has it the wifi symbol. so, is my pc connected to the internet via my phones internet or my home internet?
