I couldn't find any threads on this topic but im sure its been asked so sorry in advance. Is there anyway to change my settings on my HERO to work on 3G for AT T network? or is it a hardware issue that im stuck with? then again i hear EDGE is about the same in terms of speed?

View 23 Replies View RelatedI'm playing with the Hero and under mobile network settings, mode of operation you have 3 choices, Hybrid, EVDO only and 1X only. Does anyone know what Hybrid is? It's the default selection. Will selecting EVDO only help with battery life?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a Hero recently unlocked from the 3 network and I'm using a O2 SIM card in it, I have put in all the right settings to get my MMS and Internet working and everything is cool, however I seem to get really vague accuracy when using Google Maps, sometimes "accurate" to within 2400 metres. I think if somebody asked me to guess where they were in the world I reckon I could get closer than that! Anyway from searching the forum I have read a few comments saying to turn off the Wireless network setting in the Location menu and just leave the GPS one selected, which I have done but then even after waiting a few minutes in an open area it fails to find my location.
I know a couple of times with both wireless network and GPS settings enabled it has been accurate enough to be able to pinpoint my location and display the arrow next to the blue dot to show which way I am facing, which is really helpful if you are in a unfamiliar area and trying to navigate to somewhere. Any ideas why it's so poor at picking up my location and are there any apps to help the GPS get a lock? Would this be something that is fixed in the 2.1 update? Which doesn't ever look likely to come out.
Changing ur mobile network settings to sprint only not automatic is suppose to help with battery life also anyone noticed this.

I have an unlocked Hero currently on O2, ive tried several mms settings and have now just erased them all as non seem to work. Does anyone have some settings that work which i can copy? And also when i goto O2.co.uk the htc hero isnt selectable to be sent the settings.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI alternate between two wifi networks on my HTC Desire running Android 2.2 ( I think!)On one network I need to specify the network IP/subnet/Gateway and so on, on the other network I can use DHCP.Is there any way to tell Android that whenever I connect to one wifi network it should use the static IP and on the other it should get an IP automatically?I am forever going into advanced wifi settings and changing them back and forth. I'd love for my phone to remember the settings used on each wifi profile.

I rooted my hero a few days ago and got Wireless Tether up and working. It works great except none of the settings do anything. I can change them, wireless tether restarts, but they never take effect. I tried changing the SSID, adding encryption, and changing the encryption password. None of the settings took effect. My laptop and ipod touch still discovered the network as "AndroidTether" with no encryption.Is there any way to fix this problem?Rooted 2.1 HTC Hero with stock rom.

So here is my question, under Menu>Settings>Social Network> Facebook appears there. I have that set to update every 12 hours.
HOWEVER, my actual Facebook App is set to update every 2 hours.
So... does the settings under Menu>Settings>Social Network>Facebook control my facebook app or just the bookmark that comes pre-installed on the phone?
I am trying to save battery life, and I noticed that the settings under Menu>Settings>Social Network>Facebook were set to update every hour, but I had the settings under the downloaded app to update every two hours. My goal is to have only one facebook medium updating so I don't drain battery life!
Is there a way to send text messages automatically when entering sprint network. Sometimes I send text messages while on the train. I set it to Sprint only to avoid roaming charges. My old phone would automatically send. This one I have to resend. Are there settings to auto send when entering the sprint network?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do I use adb to perform some automated tasks on my android phone? I need to find commands that I can issue from the command line (ideally, using a .bat file) that will be capable of more than simply opening an application or sending an input keyevent (button press).
For instance, I want to toggle Airplane Mode on or off from the command line. Currently, the best I can do is launch the Wireless & network settings menu and then use input keyevents to click Airplane mode:

There are quite a few drawbacks to this method, primarily that the screen has to be on and unlocked. Also, the tasks I want to do are much broader than this simple example. Other things I'd like to do if possible:
1.Play an mp3 and set it on repeat. Current solution:

2.Play a video. (current solution: open MediaGallery, send keyevents, similar to above)
3.Change the volume (current solution: send volume-up button keyevents)
4.Change the display timeout (current solution: open sound & display settings, send keyevents)
As before, these all require the screen to be on and unlocked. The other major drawback to using keyevents is if the UI of the application is changed, the keyevents will no longer perform the correct function. If there is no easier way to do these sort of things, is there at least a way to turn the screen on (using adb) when it is off? Or to have keyevents still work when the screen is off?
I'm not very familiar with java. That said, I've seen code like the following (source: http://yenliangl.blogspot.com/2009/12/toggle-airplane-mode.html) to change a setting on the phone:

How do I translate something like the above into an adb shell command? Is this possible, or the wrong way to think about it?
Is it possible to create a sort of wifi lan network (i.e., make the captivate work as a local area network router without internet access)? this could potentially be useful: quick filesharing, improvised LAN for games, etc...

I have the Google Sync selected within the Data Synchornisation settings but I have auto synchronisation turned off.
Do I need to change my sync settings or is there a problem?

He loves the phone but like I said will have nothing to do with Sprint network. So I am wondering if he has any options with using it on any other network by possibly flashing the phone or something.
I believe he has settled everything with Spring paid the early termination fees and payed up on his bills. So does he have any options now?
I was wondering if it is possible to give the HTC Hero a network name. For example when i look at my routers status it lists all connected devices. My-PC, Sister-PC ect... and the MAC address of each device, as it should.
However the HTC Hero name field is left blank. I know it is the Hero seeing as the MAC matches the device. Does anyone know if it's possible to give the phone a network name?
I am going to NewYork in Sept,will I only be able to use my hero on the 2g network ? Will it still update weather etc on 2g and do Google maps work on the 2g network ?
