HTC Hero :: Contact Transfer To Desire?
Nov 24, 2010
This may be a lame question but I want an easy way to transfer contact from HTC Hero to HTC Desire. (I'm helping my friend and I have never used Android before.) I prefer backup-and-restore style (provided nothing is lost in the process).

I am trying to tidy up contacts and want to transfer all the contacts on my Desire to my PC, tidy them and send them back. I had a look at the other thread s on this but they don't seem to cover Desire.
It seems I can only transfer contacts as VCards, one at a time, via bluetooth, is this the case? That would be a pain.
So, what are the alternatives? I think I can use sync but I'm not sure how. Any other options? Using the built in mailer in Desire, I assume, since I didn't load another one, and using Thunderbird on PC, if that info is pertinent.

I have a built in car system that connects to the phone via bluetooth. Unfortunately, this system will not read the phonebook directly from the phone, and you need to transfer the phonebook via bluetooth to the car system.
On my old phone (Samsung i8910), you were able to go into contacts, mark all the contacts and then transfer them via bluetooth.
On the DHD I cannot seem to find an option for this. Any ideas how I can achieve this?

Three are agreeing to exchange my HTC Hero for an HTC Desire, because of the numerous problems with the Hero.
I've spent a bit of time setting up my Hero and installing apps - is there a way to easily back up my Hero's settings and apps and transfer them to the Desire?

Just got it last night at ATT b&m (for $149!!) and yes (as my lovely wife can attest) I was captivated for many an hour. Battery cycling. Overall VERY good despite the posts I've read. Very intuitive UI but I could see where some mods would be sweet. EXCELLENT GPS performance; 15-30 sec fixes INDOORS with 5-10m accuracy w/out WiFi. My BJII was never this good. Excellent You Tube performance WITH HQ playback. 8GB SDHC works flawlessly, My only suck is phone contacts transfer from WM6. BTW - bod was 7/22/10. Now on to the Market, sideloading and may be root.

I found a new method to transfer contact data from Android to iPhone,I have used HTC desire for nearly one and half years and all the contact data in this device is so important for me. Then this year my brother gave me an iPhone 4S as my 21 years birthday present. It was a great gift, however, the problem comes to me that how I can transfer my contact data to my new iPhone 4s.
I searched Google and got some ways such as: using the Sim card, syncing to Google contacts; using Synkontact; or import and export my contact data using Moborobo.
I don't like to upload my contact data to any unknown internet space, so I choose not to use Google contacts and synkontact. Why? Because I don't trust any web storage space! So, Moborobo become my choice. I can safely export contact data on my HTC desire to my computer and import it to my lovely iPhone 4s. Ok, it's done! Easy and safe.
If you get other ways to transfer data between iPhone and Android.

Must admit, its a very nice phone. First thing I have done is update. Little bit of a shame I could not transfer anything but my contacts from my Hero but i'll live. I will upload some pictures to my personal flickr account in a bit. One I get everything configured and get over the shock of how much bigger the screen is over my Hero.

I have a damaged HTC Desire (but still working) and a new HTC Desire (gotta love it when your phone with a little liquid in the screen is "beyond economical repair". So I want to give the damaged one to the misses and I want to transfer everything from it to the new one. And then wipe the old one. The old one is 2.2 I don't know what the new one is, probably the one the stock version. Both are Vodafone.

I just switched from a Nokia N95 to an HTC Desire on Android 2.1 (Froyo isn't out in the Middle East yet I guess). I'm having a lot of trouble getting my contacts on to the Desire. On setting up the phone, it has pulled my contacts from Gmail & Facebook, which I don't really need. I will not be calling or mailing most of the people on that list. There are a 1000+ contacts on those lists and I don't need all of them on my contact list. I tried to use the Nokia Ovi Suite to sync contacts, but for some reason I was not able to transfer them onto the PC. So I copied them all onto the SIM card and then put the SIM into the Desire and exported them to the phone memory.
The problem is that on copying them onto the SIM on the N95, I have multiple entries on the list. For contacts with more than 1 number under them, there are separate entries for each number, with the same name. Is there a method to group them the same way they were earlier i.e. One contact entry with a Home, Mobile, & Business number? Do let me know. It will hugely helpful. The only other way I can think of is to sit and enter all the numbers manually!

I cannot get my Iphone 3G and DHD to sync my contacts using the "Transfer Data" function. I follow the on screen instructions on the DHD. Set the Iphone to 'discoverable' but cant get any further. Usually the Iphone doesn't even appear on the DHD Bluetooth devices list and on the odd occassion that it does, as soon as i go to connect it drops out and says i should restart both phones. I have done this numerous times to no avail. Has anyone managed to do this same transfer? And if so can they provide a little assistance?

I have been using astro to send files via bluetooth. I noticed however, that the type of files you can send is limited. It seems I can send pics & MP3s, but not PDFs or APKs for example. If i try to 'send' them in astro, I only get the mail or gmail options. Is this normal, or can't I drive the phone properly again?

Newbie to Androids here, just upgraded from a nokia 2323 (yep, pretty big upgrade). When I connect my phone to the computer, I want to put files on the phone and be able to access them. I have Astro File Manager, but when I go all the way to the top level of folders with that, the folders available are.
app
bin
build
customize
etc
fonts
framework
lib
lost+found
media
usr
xbin
And when I open the "external drive" (phone) on the computer, all I can see is.
.bookmark_thumb1
.footprints
albumthumbs
backup
data
DCIM
download
LOST.DIR
media
miner_savegames (from gem miner)
minerdemo_savegames (from gem miner demo im guessing)
MP3
Photofunia (guessing its data for the Photofunia)
rosie_scroll
rssreader
User Manual
HTCSync_2.0.28 (application)
robo_defense_full.bak
How do I get the files into any of those folders?

My old phone number appears to have been transferred over to my new contract this morning. So much for the text messages I was told I would receive before and after it happened. Anyway,
If I go to Settings > About > Phone Identity
It still shows my old number, how do I change it?

I'm using the usb cable, and am just getting around 3 MBps for large files. It takes too long to copy movies over.Is it because of the phone or because of the class of card I have (class 2)? What speeds are you getting? Should I get a new fast card?
