Three are agreeing to exchange my HTC Hero for an HTC Desire, because of the numerous problems with the Hero.
I've spent a bit of time setting up my Hero and installing apps - is there a way to easily back up my Hero's settings and apps and transfer them to the Desire?

I'm not comfortable enough with Android yet to Root my phone, but if that is the only way, then so be it. (Although I doubt it is, what with the lovely customisation options we have at our disposal).
Is there a program, native or download, that will back up the phone, settings, options, apps, etc.? For people familiar with BlackBerry, I am looking for something like Desktop Manager.

I found many threads on various forums, all slightly different and all assuming you have a certain level of knowledge about certain things. There was no easy, step by step guide.So I decided to post my guide up here for anyone who like me, wants to uninstall system apps but hasn't the foggiest.This is for if you have the ROM already installed and don't want to do a wipe/re-install. for ROMs you are about to install, just open the zip, browse to systemapp and delete the .apk prior to installation.Enjoy your bloatware free ROM. It goes without saying that you shouldn't remove anything you don't recognise and that if you do, you risk doing harm to your phone. I can take no responsibility for damage caused.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMe and a friend are trying to port a system app from the same phone but two different roms. Here's the situation. The phone is zopo zp998 and it comes with regular Android 4.2.2. Zopo is making the exact same phone for the Chinese market with on OS based on Android 4.2.2 that's called YunOS and it doesn't have Google account support so it's not usable outside China.
The YunOS has a black screen gesture feature that you can activate in the settings under display and then while the screen is Black you can make symbols on it with your finger and open specific apps. For instance if you draw the letter C the dialer will open.
My friend was able to find the system app for the gestures in YunOS and all its library files and put it in his rom. When the phone boots we can see that the gestures service is running fine but we don't have the option in the settings to activate the app. we can use on how to transfer a system setting and app like this? Is there another app we can use to trigger the on and off of the app?
I am trying to find an app which makes transferring things to and fro easily with bluetooth. I have downloaded 'bluetooth file transfer' and find it a little complicated for easy transfers of pictures, music etc. I can send items but nobody seems to be able to find me to send me anything (phone is set to discoverable). I think it is great app just a little too much for what I want to do!
Does anyone know of an app which wors quickly and easily?
One big problem I've noticed is that when you need to have your phone switched off (e.g. on an aircraft, etc.) it's all too easy for the phone to switch itself on whilst in your pocket - the "power on" button just needs the slightest tap and then it springs into life.I know whilst on a plane I could pre-set it to in-flight mode before powering it off, but that's not the point. Like when powering the phone off, there is a delay and a set of menu options. I'd like something similar for powering the phone on - programmable delay and/or combination of pressing say home and the "power on" button.Does anyone know of an app or some code I could run to alter the way the phone behaves ?. Not sure if the only way to add this functionality is part of a flash update as it needs to survive a power off, etc.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Orange UK branded HTC Desire HD running stock firmware & NOT rooted. Since the fairly recent 2.3.5 update with Sense 3.0 I have found that I am regularly seeing Sense restart upon exiting an app and returning to the home screen. This is not related to a particular app, as it can happen when returning to home from ANY app. My wife is seeing the same behaviour on hers too.
Having posted on both HTC's & Orange's Facebook pages, I have been advised in no uncertain terms that as a first step I should perform a factory reset.
This is something that I have not done since I got my DHD (my 1st Android - plenty of hard resets on WM ). I have had a bit of a tidy up - clearing unnecessary data, uninstalling apps I don't use, etc. Pretty much ready to reset (but aware that there is SOME data that I will lose). However, there is one thing that I am unsure about...
I have previously moved a number of apps to the SD card. If I leave them there, will the existing data be recognised upon reinstalling the apps? Or will it cause me problems? Or will the existing data just be orphaned? I.e. should I move all apps back to the phone before performing the reset?
I probably nuked my Droid doing something, either messing with it rooted or cold/snow/moisture got to it. I'd be in the middle of a call and the other person wouldn't hear me. This would happen randomly. I went to Verizon and they simply shipped me a new phone.
Now that I have it, i thought all my apps would be on the SD card. Nope. I can only get back Apps that are the Market has marked as needing update. all my other apps are gone. How can I move them along with my custom setting like GDE etc?
I'm considering flashing Clockwork but first I want to know if there is a way to back up some apps and settings so I don't have to start completely from scratch.

View 3 Replies View RelatedPerhaps there is a thread already about this but I discovered today that if you long press on an app and then drag it down to the trash can and then hold it on the trash can for a few seconds a text pops up telling you to let go to uninstall.I have uninstaller, but this is a really handy quick way to uninstall a single app. Hope it helps.This applies only to Launcher Pro, apparently it does not work with stock as stated by the below posters. I don't have that card yet, but I can't skip this window. According to HTC-support, a SIMcard is not necessary for setting up the phone, using many of the functions, and using WiFi. But they didn't tell me how to solve the problem.After a lot of fiddling around, I managed to find the WiFi settings and got connected there. But there simply is no Home Page (or whatever its called, the main page that you see in all the adverts), I can't get to settings, there are no applications.I did a hard/factory restart, but no joy - the problem stays the same.
View 15 Replies View RelatedYesterday my Droid Incredible kept telling me there was an update to my phone. I waited until 8 or 9 hours later and then did the update last night. EVERY single app, contact, messgae, email...everything is GONE...the phone is like the day I got it. I had no warning and I'm beyond devastated. I was able to use Backup Assistant for my contacts, LOTS of pictures are gone, ALL my message threads are gone and on Monday, I'm going to have to reset my Exchange email at work. I've reloaded my personal email and some apps I remember, but I cannot tell you how upset I am.
One of the biggest problems is I don't know what I don't have? I had so many apps, and I don't have a record of them.
Is there some way to back up everything on the phone, all settings, etc, to a website so this never happens again? I am NOT rooted and a I have Froyo 2.2
