View 10 RepliesI was trying to root my nexus one. I was able to complete unlocking the bootloader but when i used superboot to root it, i won't get pass the step where you verify to make sure superboot recognizes your device. Every time i enter fasboot-windows devices command, it just won't recognize it. I don't know what else to do.

But when I open it. Its just black and there is nothing in that file.
What did I do wrong?
Question 2. I flashed recovery image, but when I try to go to that recovery thingy. It turns to black and in few seconds there is android with "!".
I am going to wait to root for a bit but ultimately it is something I think I want to do. I understand how to do it and the risks involved, but what I am not really clear on are the benefits. I know it lets me run certain applications that require root access. But which ones are really that great? I don't need to overclock it. Its fast enough and battery life is bad enough. I don't need tethering although access point capabilities might be cool to show off. So what kind of programs / capabilities would I really be seeing?
View 29 Replies View RelatedAndroid Guys are reporting that the "one click" root program is no avaliable for the N1 (Universal One-Click Root Now Available for Nexus One | AndroidGuys). Can anyone confirm that this does indeed work without unlocking your boot-loader? My N1 is currently un-rooted and I think I am finally ready to root this phone. My biggest concern has always been that I don't have a good understanding of the root process and I didn't want to mess anything up. If this program really is "one click" then it seems like it's a no brainer. If I do go through with this "one click" root can I just follow the regular instructions to install cyanogen (I would like the ability to record HD)? Also do I still need to revert to an earlier build (running FRF91) to install cyanogen?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am considering rooting my phone because I like to tinker with things and learn new things, just for fun.Aside from learning new things, I would like to also install apps that require root permission like greenify... I'd also like to learn enough to remove crapware from my wife's gs3, but not until I learn how to do it with a level of confidence on my own phone.
I have a Nexus 4 right now, and a 5 on the way. I also have a 2012 nexus 7.Generally, how easy is to learn about rooting on a nexus? Good phone or tablet to start with? Easy to recover from mistakes?
I've just rooted my device (Nexus 5) with Chainfire auto setup and I've downloaded Superuser by Clockworkmod. When I opened it up, it showed a message saying that I needed to update the SU binary, I went back to the Play Store, I read the description and I found a link, that allows me to install it from a recovery files. Once I downloaded it I opened the app again using the recovery files, Android crashed and rebooted itself, but during the boot it showed a dead android image (the one with the red triangle). I've turned off my device (Nexus 5) and then I've reboot it, now all works fine. I'm terribly scared, what the hell happened? It's my fault or Superuser just crashed?

Ok, I posted this on my Google Groups page where I was able to Tidy it up and update it easier. Sources credited and applied. I did this on 2 N1's. No wiping, no data loss, both T-Mobile with FRF91. No data loss, no wipes, no nothing. The only reason you will have to wipe or anything is if you want to put a custom recovery on it and a custom ROM.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm contemplating if I should root my Nexus One mainly because I really want that extra performance boost. However I have a few questions. First will I still receive the OTA updates Google pushes out? And secondly, will I be able to revert back to stock android OS after rooting. And lastly, do all the Google apps work (mainly the Google GPS Navigation) without problems?

I recently got the new Nexus 7 running 4.3 and wondering if there's a way to block ads without rooting (I mean ads from webpages while using your browser). I had rooted my phone a long time ago and remember there was a great adblock that did the job perfectly. But I don't want to root the Nexus 7.
On my laptop computer, I use AdBlock as an extension the the Chrome browser. But extensions don't exist on the Chrome Android version (at least not that I'm aware of).
I did fine an ad blocker (forgot the name) that used a proxy, but it was a pain as you had to manually add the proxy to every wifi connection and it also wrecked havock on some websites (e.g. couldn't log into e-bay).
These ads really slow down web surfing, specially when your browser is in "Desktop" user agent mode.
Is it possible to get the black status bar similar to the Sense UI bar without rooting the phone? I don't want to root my phone b/c I love everything else but I want that status bar really bad. Any ideas?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to install Cyanogenmod and root my Nexus 7 2013, but I don't know what I should do to backup.
I previously tried to root and install CM on my Motorola Atrix HD on AT&T and successfully rooted it, unlocked the bootloader, and installed Clockwork Mod. I made sure to click backup and proceeded to delete the version of Android on the device and install Cyanogenmod. Cyanogenmod did not successfully install and I wanted to restore my device back to it the backup I made. It said that it did it successfully, but the device gets stuck on the AT&T logo when booting up and doesn't go past that.
I don't want to have to go through the same trouble with my Nexus 7 not being able to restore back to a backup in case something goes wrong. I'm using the Nexus Root Toolkit on my PC and will probably use the Cyanogenmod installer for installing CM11 (if there are any drawbacks to using the installer). What should I use to backup my device and how would I restore it back to stock if something goes wrong? And if I have a bricked device, how can I flash it back to stock?
