I usually do a NAND backup before flashing a new rom or going on an adventure but I always have wondered what the other options for the recovery backups exactly were?whats the difference between NAND, NAND + ext, and BART backups?

You can do a backup from within Rom Manager, Also from within Recovery. But if I do a backup in Rom Manager, it wont help me if I am in a bootloop right? Because I have no way to enter Rom Manager. So I do backups within Recovery also. But I don't see a way to name, or label them. Does anyone have a good system worked out other than keeping notes on a notepad?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI made two backups of ROMs by manually booting into recovery. Everything went smooth except that I made one on 11-21-10 and it's named as 11-22-10 and the other was made the next day on 11-22-10 and it's named and dated 11-23-10.
The date and time are showing correctly on my phone. This is not a big deal now that I'm aware of it, but was curious if anyone has experienced this and could shed some light on this?
I have a G2 rooted with the Desire Z HBOOT and clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.7 and everything was working perfectly when randomly out of nowhere my backups no longer restored properly. It would either say md5 sum mismatch or it would restore and get stuck at HTC bootscreen. This happens with any rom i flash. I've tried wiping/factory reset/formatting sdcard/flashing older cwm/ and even removing and creating new md5 images. NOTHING works. This is important to me because I ususally flash back and forth between different roms and I like being able to back them up.

I do have Rom manager installed... but I don't quite recall how I ended up flashing the stock rom onto the phone..
Anyways, as I did seem to reset my phone, I upgraded all the apk packs and I'm pretty happy with the speed upgrade + ext2 internal space expansion.
As I now want to create a nandroid backup, so I can always come back to my current status, when I want a clean reinstall..!
My main question is that as I seem to have skipped creating a CWM recovery... if I do so now, will I loose all my data and go back to the basic stock rom?
The problem I'm facing right now is that I'm unable to boot into the recovery mode using either "adb reboot recovery" or the power on + vol buttons / menu button. (which means that I don't have the recovery mode installed.....)
So.... will I loose my current upgrades + phone settings (reset into factory mode), if I flash the recovery mode?
Is there a way to have backups made manually and scheduled backups displayed in separate lists? I would like to have my manual backups in a list(with max history) and backups scheduled weekly and daily in a different list with a different max backup history(3 for daily, 2 for weekly).

1-reboot system now
2-apply sd card: update zip
3-wipe data factory reset
4-wipe cache partition
underneath is the message
e: can't open /cache/recovery/command. without a restore option, i cannot change mod's or kernels--or if i can, i don't know how. i've tried to flash sprecovery from rom manger, but the menu options do not change. any ideas how i can solve this issue?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a question about restoring nandroid backups. I have quite a few ROMs saved as backups, for switching if I want to try something else. I have White Widow 4.4 installed right now, and am apparently stuck with it since when trying to roll back to Aloysius or anything else. When I go to restore a back up, after wiping dalvik/data, I get this error. Error : run 'nandroid-mobile.shrestore' via adb! What the heck are they talking about? I hope this isn't something simple and stupid, but I am out to sea right now with no access to my computer. Please assist! Thanks guys! Also, WW4.4 rules.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Evil Eris 2.0.1, and about 20 mins ago I plugged in my phone and it says debugging is enabled, but the USB options screen, with mount, charge, etc. didn't appear. What I was doing was trying to get the eclair lock screen, so I had installed the .zip through the restore screen. When I rebooted, I could no longer see the screen. I tried removing startup manager, which people said caused problems, but still it didn't work. I restored to a nandroid backup from before the lock screen change and that didn't work. I'm restored to an earlier backup when I knew everything worked and when I boot, debugging comes up but the usb options do not.

I tried the (Google ?) keyboard available from the market (AnySoftKeyboard) but didn't like it.
Does anyone know of a relatively easy way to change the font of the Android OS? Right now I'm using WW and tried Googling it but couldn't find anything i could make sense of other than a tutorial written in very bad English.

When it said "device not found" I tried to sync it only to find out that now I have no options to sync or mount. When plugged in by usb I get nothing in the notification bar at all. It will charge but now I can't even mount my phone

I still wanted SMS and Email to come in, but I wanted those to be silent.I realize I can dive down into Menu > Setting and do it manually, but I'm looking for something simpler like an app or widget.I could turn off Mobile Network via a widget, but like I said above, I still want SMS and Email to come in, just not make a sound.Any ideas?
View 5 Replies View RelatedBefore I rooted, when I plugged in my Eris to the computer the screen popping up which had my choose either charge only, disk drive, or HTC sync would pop up, however after I rooted that screen doesn't pop up, nor is it in the notification bar. The debugging mode notification still pops up though.

View 6 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine just rooted the other day using the Root for Dummies thread, (the same as I used months ago), and loaded up Kayosfroyo 35-1. He is now attempting to flash nonsensycal 8.2 Black. Well he downloaded the rom but when he tries to power up the phone using volume up it just boots up regular. He doesn't get the options for Nand Backup Reboot Flash etc. Volume down works but he gets a different set of menu items.

1. How do I delete ALL text messages from ALL contacts?

I recently flashed tenzos2.1, or whatever the name is, anyways... it waas super tweaky with too many FC's so I decided I would try another sense rom instead of going back to KaosFroyo. I then wanted to put xtrsense on my phone but while running tenzos my computer would not read my phone.. so I flashed the 1.5rom to get back to stock be cause it was the only rom existing on my phone. After that I put xtrsense on my sd card unmounted it and attempted to go into recovery... doing that I get a picture of my phone and an exclamation point, what in the world happened?
View 10 Replies View RelatedYou can test to make sure everything is working by going to a command prompt, go to the tools directory of the Android SDK, and type: "adb shell". If you see a "$" (or "#" if you're already rooted) sign you're good. i can't figure that out. what is directory of the android sdk? i think i know but im now sure. i did everything on the android sdk tutorial but it seems i was just doing it on my computer and not my phone. how do i know if it went on my phone? and how do i put it on my phone if i didnt do it. am i suppose to sync it of just connect it.

adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
says file not found. What am I doing wrong
My phone works fine. Aside from rooting troubles, it boots up perfectly. Im on hboot 1.47 and want to root so I've been experimenting with it. ANyways, I boot into recovery mode, and all that came up was a picture of an eris with a red exclamation mark on it. What does this mean?
