HTC Eris :: RECOVERY - BETA - Kaos' Eris Multiboot Recovery Hack
Sep 9, 2010
As if punk.kaos didn't already have his hands full with his Froyo updates, he started working on this: [RECOVERY-BETA] Eris Multiboot recovery hack - xda-developers Apparently, its a (very early) multi-boot for the Eris...very interesting and very cool. Got other questions? Visit his thread (above) over on XDA...

once we get root and install the recovery tool, we'll never have to go through the loop process again to get into recovery. I feel like that's a major newb question but just wanted to make sure. If that's the case, can somebody list or point me to the procedure to do the wireless N hack using the recovery tool? Just read in the thread below how some users might be having problems with wireless teather after doing the "N" hack. If this is the case, perhaps it's best to skip it altogether.

I recently flashed tenzos2.1, or whatever the name is, anyways... it waas super tweaky with too many FC's so I decided I would try another sense rom instead of going back to KaosFroyo. I then wanted to put xtrsense on my phone but while running tenzos my computer would not read my phone.. so I flashed the 1.5rom to get back to stock be cause it was the only rom existing on my phone. After that I put xtrsense on my sd card unmounted it and attempted to go into recovery... doing that I get a picture of my phone and an exclamation point, what in the world happened?

You can test to make sure everything is working by going to a command prompt, go to the tools directory of the Android SDK, and type: "adb shell". If you see a "$" (or "#" if you're already rooted) sign you're good. i can't figure that out. what is directory of the android sdk? i think i know but im now sure. i did everything on the android sdk tutorial but it seems i was just doing it on my computer and not my phone. how do i know if it went on my phone? and how do i put it on my phone if i didnt do it. am i suppose to sync it of just connect it.

When I try to place the recovery.img in the /tools folder, it tells me that there is already a file named 'recovery.img'. Should I go ahead and have it replaced by this new one?

My phone works fine. Aside from rooting troubles, it boots up perfectly. Im on hboot 1.47 and want to root so I've been experimenting with it. ANyways, I boot into recovery mode, and all that came up was a picture of an eris with a red exclamation mark on it. What does this mean?

I went to flash a zip in recovery tonight, (specifically the stock keyboard zip for xtrrom 4.6, but that's beside the point) booted into recovery successfully, and I noticed my trackball isn't working at all! It would let me select reboot now, but thats it. Trackball is working fine once it reboots into normal mode, but it is completely useless in Recovery. Is it permanently like this or is it just a minor glitch I can fix with a few things.

so im on my second eris root. all is well thus far, accept now i am trying to boot from recovery to put vanilladroid on it, and i cant get into recovery mode. i didnt have this problem with the last phone i did this to, and i dont know what im doing wrong at this point. i have reloaded amon's recovery image, and done all of that process over again. nothing works, when i boot power/volume up, all i get is the skateboard guys, then the exclamation point inside a triangle, with a phone laying down. "button mashing" on the end and send buttons then leads the phone to reboot back to normal mode. i even tried to reboot recovery from adb, and still got this end result. i am out of ideas (as im no programmer...)also, i have tried to get on irc, but keep getting booted, even when switching sn's.so ive given up on that as well

I am pretty sure I have root, as if I open emulator and SU It goes $ to #. I am running build "2.19.605.1 CL123435 test_keys" and everything seems stable. It's funny that I'm running 2.1 because I never flashed the ROM, I couldn't get past recovery partition set-up.
When I try to press power+up volume all I get is the yellow triangle exclamation point with the android cartoon. This is where I stopped on my first attempt. When I powered the phone back up, it's running 2.1.
Can I re-download the recovery partition .zips and re-flash the root ROM to start all over? I'm thinking my DL's of some of the recovery images may have been corrupted. I'm thinking since I have root, re-flashing the root ROM shouldn't hurt anything right?
Kinda green here, it took me a long time to realize why there a bunch of different files with the same name, but not the same contents (pmb). I'm assuming that's the only filename that the boot loader will recognize.

I feel like such a moron for not knowing this. I used the one click method for rooting a week or so ago, and im currently running kaos froyo v30. I'm looking at running xtrROM4.0.6.1 and it says in the installation instructions that "YOU MUST HAVE A ROOTED PHONE WITH THE AMON_RA RECOVERY PARTITION"

I was running aloysius v12, tried flashing purehero 2.1, and got stuck on the white skateboarder boot screen. Pulled battery, tried recovering my nandroid backups, (use clockwork mod), and whenever I try recovering my backups, i get a "Error while flashing boot image!" message, and it stops.
I've tried flashing just the regular Aloysius2.0v12 file, not a backup, and i get:
Copying files...
E:Can't symlink /system/xbin/[
E:Failure at line 10:
symlink busybox SYSTEM:xbin/[
Installation aborted.
The only thing I can do from here is try to flash something else, or reboot. I can't get past the recovery screen.
I'm not sure where to go from here. Someone told me to install amon ra instead of clockwork, and to flash a new rom from there, but I don't know if that'll be the right way to go about it or even how to do that. Sorry for being such a noob, and i'm sure this problem is in a thread somewhere else but i looked all over and couldn't find it.

Does anyone know where I can find the instruction manual for ClockworkMod Recovery? I want to know what each one of the options does, and when it should be used. If I use app2sd should I be wiping something extra when I install a new ROM? What does it do when it wipes the cache partition and dalvik?

I've got the rooted 2.1, easy. I've got all the java and adk and what not I got the flash_image and recovery.img. The command prompts all work fine till the last command, (I've tried 2 different chain of commands both work until a certain point).
adb shell mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
adb push recovery.img /sdcard
adb push flash_image /system/bin
adb shell chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
(After this one it says it cannot find flash recovery or image, cant exactly remember.)
- Open the Terminal and copy and paste the following commands with the phone connected to your computer.
- adb shell [hit enter]
- su [hit enter]
- flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-eris-v1.6.2.img (once again not found but I believe I followed correctly) this the end of commands the first half worked fine.

I noticed that you can now add a "Reboot" button to SwitchPro that works a lot like Quick Boot. This is GREAT! and I am super excited. When you press the button, you're given the option for Reboot/Recovery/Bootloader (also awesome!).
The problem is... it doesn't work!
Is this an issue with my Eris/ROM or are other Eris users experiencing the same? If so, I'd be happy to ping the SwitchPro dev to see if a solution can be found.

There are probably threads about this already that my lurking has missed, but I'm trying to install the flash_image and recovery-ra-eris.img. I tried using this,
How To: Load a Custom ROM on the HTC Droid Eris (Updated ? 04.08.2010) | TheUnlockr
but when I get to adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-ra-eris.img, I get an error saying the flash_image not installed. Is there a better and/or easier way to get the flash_image and recovery-ra-eris.img install on my eris so I can get a nandroid backup? I really want to back everything up before I attempt to throw kaosfroyo on there.

I recently flashed a .zip file to change my lock screen (Semi-Transparent Lock Screen), The flash seemed successful except that I started having many force closes after the flash. All of these apps were HTC, like people, calendar, photos, clock. I then noticed some dialer issues. I could make outgoing calls, but my phone did not respond correctly when calls came in.
After much searching and not getting a response in the thread where I downloaded the lock screen, I decided to just flash an old Nandroid backup. But when I long pressed my power off key, the phone did a quick vibrate and restarted (instead of giving me the many options it should have).
So the main point is, I am fairly certain that it is not possible to "unflash" this .zip file that has caused these problems, so now I am left not knowing how I can get to recovery to flash an old backup. Thanks in advance for any help on the matter!
I am rooted running PlainJaneV2 and am fairly new to root so please be thorough in any wisdom you may be so kind to pass on to me.

An error? What did I do wrong? What I'm trying to do is apply a file I downloaded that is supposed to add Live Wallpapers to the phone.
