General :: Way To Have Backups Made Manually And Scheduled Backups Displayed In Separate Lists
Dec 23, 2013
Is there a way to have backups made manually and scheduled backups displayed in separate lists? I would like to have my manual backups in a list(with max history) and backups scheduled weekly and daily in a different list with a different max backup history(3 for daily, 2 for weekly).

Just downloaded the latest version of Titanium off the market and it now offers scheduled backups (not sure if this is only for the paid version). There are also a handful of other new features that I haven't checked out yet. I am pretty excited about this and just wanted to give my rooted brothers and sisters a heads up

Any nandroid backup explorer for backups made with CWM 6+? Neither App Extractor and Nandroid explorer works.

I made two backups of ROMs by manually booting into recovery. Everything went smooth except that I made one on 11-21-10 and it's named as 11-22-10 and the other was made the next day on 11-22-10 and it's named and dated 11-23-10.
The date and time are showing correctly on my phone. This is not a big deal now that I'm aware of it, but was curious if anyone has experienced this and could shed some light on this?

I am currently using the aid version on my s4 and the only down side I have with this phone is that it doesn't have good memory. So I wanted to set up the cloud services for my back ups to save some space.

I'm not sure what I must've done. But nevertheless my stock Touchwiz firmware from my Galaxy S3 is gone. I must've deleted it while doing a factory reset, because my play store was acting up.
I would like to flash back to stock Touchwiz on my phone but when I looked for it on ROM Manager and in recovery all my previous backups were gone. So I was wondering if there is a way to get my stock firmware back or maybe even retrieve it from my phone from someplace it could be hiding.
Some more info: I am running CyanogenMod 10.1.3 and rooted with clockwork mod. This is on my Samsung Galaxy S3. And I am with T-Mobile on a contract in the United States.

I just bought a tablet, and want to restore a few apps to it (I can install them from the market, but it's the data I'm more interested in). Is this a no-no?

Is there an easy way to clear out the backups from Titanium Backup? I've restored my backups and gotten the apps I want to keep to the point I want them, but there's a ton of bloat that got backed up from the original install of my phone and I want to clear it out.

I currently have the Gnex and I've spent soooooo much time setting it up to be exactly how I want it to be. I was just wondering if there was any way to save my cache and export it to another device or if cache backups are device specific

4.2 of Jelly Bean update could be imminent for my Nexus 7, and I'm wondering about what and how to backup before the update. The question I think is a general android one though... which is why I'm posting it here.
This was going to be a question about factory reset... but reading other posts I think I now understand that factory reset just deletes data/cache, so I think any time you do that it's just gonna return the device to a clean ROM state without changing the ROM. (whatever flavour/version ROM is)
When a ROM update is applied (either official or manually flashed), I guess it wipes everything, is it like a disk format or something like that? I have installed CWM recovery and rooted my device, I think the update will unroot it, but will the CWM recovery still be loaded?
And then, what backup should I take before the update... I think a Titanium Backup is a must, I understand how that works. But a Nandroid backup too? Or is that more like taking a disk image, would that be useless to restore after the ROM has been updated? And if so, does that mean any old Nandroid backups should be discarded?
Once the new update to 4.2 is installed, is it advisable to take a Nandroid backup immediately, or better to download the stock 4.2 image and keeping it as a starting point? (does this amount to the same thing?) I guess this is where a factory reset would return it to stock (providing I haven't moved anything to the system apps)?
Or is it possible/better to use a Nandroid backup as a point in time image of everything that's been installed on the device after adding back all the apps etc? I guess that leads me to wonder if the Nandroid backup is needed at all if I'm going with the Titanium Backups...

I enabled TB to sync to Dropbox this morning and it's at 78% after about 3 hours. I'd like to sync to the cloud regularly, but I can't afford half a day to do so. If after the initial backup will it only upload changes or does it upload all the backed up files each time?

I have a G2 rooted with the Desire Z HBOOT and clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.7 and everything was working perfectly when randomly out of nowhere my backups no longer restored properly. It would either say md5 sum mismatch or it would restore and get stuck at HTC bootscreen. This happens with any rom i flash. I've tried wiping/factory reset/formatting sdcard/flashing older cwm/ and even removing and creating new md5 images. NOTHING works. This is important to me because I ususally flash back and forth between different roms and I like being able to back them up.

I flashed + rooted (strangely in that order, which means I must have rooted my phone ages ago.. and then locked my bootloader after flashing..?)...
I do have Rom manager installed... but I don't quite recall how I ended up flashing the stock rom onto the phone..
Anyways, as I did seem to reset my phone, I upgraded all the apk packs and I'm pretty happy with the speed upgrade + ext2 internal space expansion.
As I now want to create a nandroid backup, so I can always come back to my current status, when I want a clean reinstall..!
My main question is that as I seem to have skipped creating a CWM recovery... if I do so now, will I loose all my data and go back to the basic stock rom?
The problem I'm facing right now is that I'm unable to boot into the recovery mode using either "adb reboot recovery" or the power on + vol buttons / menu button. (which means that I don't have the recovery mode installed.....)
So.... will I loose my current upgrades + phone settings (reset into factory mode), if I flash the recovery mode?

I have a few questions about TWRP. I have been using it for a while now on my SGS2 t989 hercules variant and I like it alot but there are some things I am not sure about.
First when I make backups is it okay to only backup the System,Data, boot for regular backups? Or Should I just check everything system,data,boot,recovery,cache,.android_secure,sd-ext? Also if I make a data backup is that okay to restore after flashing a new rom instead of using titanium? I would think not but I want to know for sure.
Next thing is under the wipe menu, what is rotation data? I have never heard of it before. So should I wipe it once in awhile when I wipe the cache and dalvik?

I just installed my first rom. Before I did this I ran a Nandroid backup after rooting, then a Titanium backup. Now that I have the new rom instaled, should I run another backup of both? Will the previous ones be saved in case I ever want to use those from before the rom flash?

Phone: nexus one
Love android....and love n1, but got a few issues/?'s
1) are my phones settings saved to my Gmail acct?
In SETTINGS>PRIVATE I have it set to "backup my settings".....I'm assuming this is to my Gmail account?
But after my one and only hard reset, all of my settings carried over except my text message settings.
In MESSAGING>SETTINGS>STORAGE SETTINGS I have it set to no limit to the amount of texts to save. I have one really important thread I don't want to lose. But after the hard reset, it went back to the factory default of only keeping 200. So I lost about 2 months of texts when I carried on as if the message storage settings were then same as before the hard reset.
After hard reset, I didn't lose the thread entirely. Just everything over the 200 limit. Oh well....I'm not getting em back, but I'd like to fully understand where I went wrong in my understanding of android/Google/gmail.
2) since i didnt lose the thread entirely, does this mean my texts are saved/backed up to my Gmail account? If not, where are they backed up if at all?
I'm beginning to think that this is the way it works (please correct me where I'm wrong):
- Gmail acct: saves most android phone settings, app history, contacts, email threads
- SD card: app data, pic & music data
- Phone flash memory: text threads & settings, internet bookmarks, apps
- Sim card: ?
3) Couple things....now moving forward:
Bought a new SIM card so I could get a new number/same phone.
- I want to put in new SIM
- do a hard reset
- login to my gmail
- keep my old internet bookmarks
- keep my old text threads from my old number
- keep my old settings
- re-download my old apps if necessary
How will a new SIM affect my situation/intentions?

So, I use Clockwork Recovery and all things associated with ROM Manager and Cyanogen Mod.I have lost all of my contacts. I perform full backups prior to installing a new version of CM.Can I recover my contacts and only my contacts? And before anyone reminds me: yes, I know about Google Sync. There's a problem with that: my gmail account was hijacked. I was able to recover it, and everything is now thoroughly locked down with insane passwords. But I just discovered: all my contacts on my phone, at least the majority of them, have disappeared. And worse, in the Contacts area of Gmail, there are ZERO contacts. My contacts got completely wiped! So.. kind of in a pickle, where Sync has made things worse by syncing one way, and not the other way! It forced the contacts off my phone, instead of uploading the contacts on my phone to Google! What's up with that?

In preparation for an upcoming firmware update to my Eris, I processed an app backup to my device's sdcard. In doing this, Estrong's File Manager notified me that only 3 of my total applications failed to backup. Can anybody tell me why these apk files failed to backup to my sdcard? Is there anything that can be done about this?

I have no problem restoring from backups, but has anyone successfully done this and not had the incorrect password with motoblur error? If so, how? I can't for the life of me do a backup and not get that error so it's kind of making backups pointless right now since we need communication with blur for the update service to get the OTA froyo update.

You can do a backup from within Rom Manager, Also from within Recovery. But if I do a backup in Rom Manager, it wont help me if I am in a bootloop right? Because I have no way to enter Rom Manager. So I do backups within Recovery also. But I don't see a way to name, or label them. Does anyone have a good system worked out other than keeping notes on a notepad?

I have a question about restoring nandroid backups. I have quite a few ROMs saved as backups, for switching if I want to try something else. I have White Widow 4.4 installed right now, and am apparently stuck with it since when trying to roll back to Aloysius or anything else. When I go to restore a back up, after wiping dalvik/data, I get this error. Error : run 'nandroid-mobile.shrestore' via adb! What the heck are they talking about? I hope this isn't something simple and stupid, but I am out to sea right now with no access to my computer. Please assist! Thanks guys! Also, WW4.4 rules.
