I've gone through the tutorials for how to root the eris on 1.5 like 30 times now, and they are all based for a PC. With my mac, some things are different, and therefore i can't find a way to root it. Does anyone have a guide for how to root on a mac?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHey everybody, I've looked for an answer on here, but to no avail. I tried to root my replacement Eris with 1.5, and HBOOT 1.47. Everything was going well until it got to the point of making a recovery, which for some reason, my phone wouldn't let me do. Infuriated and frustrated, I followed the steps to go back to 1.5 to a tee. However, I miss Vlingo so much, and i went to install the OTA 2.1, and it aborted the installation. I now have HBOOT 1.49.2000, so does my phone basically think I have the 2.1v3 leak, or am I just flat-out screwed? Done multiple factory resets, etc. and they haven't helped either
View 6 Replies View RelatedIn our alltel contract, all my family lines get unlimited data for $40 a month. My parents are looking to upgrade their regular phones (for free) and I was going to recommend the eris (from amazon) to them. I have heard some talk of not having very good signal and mention of some bugs and want to know how much truth there is behind these (especially signal) or if they were lemons, etc. if it matters all my parents would do is call/text (obviously), email sync, and maybe browse the web every once in a while. Bugs with, say face book, wouldn't matter.

I have downloaded sdk and all of the drivers but can not figure out how to get step #10 You can test to make sure everything is working by going to a command prompt, go tools directory of the Android SDK, and type: "ad b shell". If you see a "$" (or "#" if you're already rooted) sign you're good. How do you go to the TOOLS directory of SDK and type ad b shell when I am in my tools directory I do not have a command prompt. When I open a command prompt I can not figure out how to get to where I need to be... Guess this is over my head I can build a Harley motor in my sleep but can not figure this out Any help would be great thanks in advance and sorry for the dumb questions but I cant figure it out.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI followed all of these instructions to downgrade my wife's rooted 2.1 and it seems to have worked fine. I've got it back to 1.5. She wanted the OTA upgrade because the 2.1 rooted version was giving her the silent call issue. Again, I went back to 1.5 because I wanted the OTA update. After doing this, she got the OTA update notification, it downloaded, processed and then failed. I've also tried to install the OTA manually and it won't work. The hboot is version 1.47. Has anybody had success downgrading their 2.1 rooted install to 1.5 and then getting the OTA update to work? I'm back at 1.5. What should I do next to get the OTA update working?

I only want to root to be able to use the Eris as a hot spot for my itouch, so if there is another way to do that.

I was asked to press action and update like I did the first time I rooted but after it was finished I tried to go and flash a ROM it just brought me to a screen with an android robot and a triangle with an exclamation point. What I need to know is do I need to re-root and if not what do I need to do?

- Zero typing!

- No PC Needed! A Phone-only Rooting method!
Basically this is just a repackaging of the wag3slav3 method (as modified by jcase) into a form which allows you to do everything from the Eris without using a PC, and without any typing - just tap the Eris' screen in all the right places. For experts who are already have successfully set up the SDK and USB drivers, and are comfortable with the command line and adb, it is probably faster to just use the manual method. This method was created for the folks who have had trouble with, or are intimidated by, those things. Or, for those times when you want to help someone root their Eris without schlepping a "dev station" to their location.

I rooted my phone to the latest ROM using the script in the stickied thread. My google contacts re-synced when the phone started, and all was fine. I then proceeded to make a few edits to my contacts. That's when I noticed that they were disappearing from my "people" list. I can still pull them up by typing the name on the dialer screen, and I can still send email to them, but they just don't show up on the list. This also happens with newly-created contacts. I've tried forcing a manual sync, rbooting, editing the contacts through gmail on my computer, and nothing has worked.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an Incredible, so not familiar with Eris, but I want to root my wife's phone and install XtrSense 4.1, as it seems to be a fast and stable ROM with no tweaks needed.
So, here are the steps:
1) One click root on XDA, install the rootme.zip file, reboot and should be rooted.
2) Run a nandroid backup
3) copy Xtr ROM to root of SD, wipe, and flash via "install from zip"
Is there anything I am missing, seems straightforward. The one step that confused me is this:
Wipe SD:ext partition
What does that step do?
Is there a program out there that lets you access the root directory on the phone from Windows to view, move, delete and copy files?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just updated my Eris to 2.1. When i start it up, i give the google account info and the password and it all works good. But when i turn my phone on every time, it says there is a problem with my Google Account because the password is incorrect or your account has changed. It isnt the password that is wrong?
How to get it to work and remember the password? I was hoping to unroot back to 1.5 but i dont think that is possible.
I'm trying to root my Eris before I activate with Verizon again. (I had to go to a back-up phone last month). I can't get the SDK or EMA program to work. following all the directions. It will not "see" my phone.
