May 4, 2010I can not for the life of me get the recovery image to work. I have downloaded sdk and all of the drivers but can not figure out how to get step #10 You can test to make sure everything is working by going to a command prompt, go tools directory of the Android SDK, and type: "ad b shell". If you see a "$" (or "#" if you're already rooted) sign you're good. How do you go to the TOOLS directory of SDK and type ad b shell when I am in my tools directory I do not have a command prompt. When I open a command prompt I can not figure out how to get to where I need to be... Guess this is over my head I can build a Harley motor in my sleep but can not figure this out Any help would be great thanks in advance and sorry for the dumb questions but I cant figure it out.

Sep 12, 2010I have a refurbished phone to replace my last one. I rooted it using gscript. This is how I rooted my previous phone. On my last phone I flashed plain Jane. This time i do not want a Rom just Su so I can install wireless tether. After using gscript it tells me I now have a rooted phone I reboot goto market install wireless tether than when I attempt to use it it tells me I need a rooted phone. What am I missing?

Jul 15, 2010My question is when you root the Eris is anything lost such as data on the phone that will have to be re-installed? Or is does it wipe the phone? I would prefer not to have to re-install but I will if it is necessary. Also will I be able to receive any further OTA updates? I know that the one scheduled for tomorrow is most likely the last that this phone will see but just in case I want all of my bases covered. I would also like to take advantage of possibly putting 2.2 on it if there is not an official release so I can take advantage of the awesome features that 2.2 offers. I really don't care about loosing SenseUi because I use Launcher Pro and love it and prefer not to switch back to SenseUi. One more thing. I really want to take out certain apps that came with the phone that are only a nuisance to me such as amazonmp3, Stocks, Tweet & google talk. And of course take advantage of the apps that are available only to rooted phones.

Apr 14, 2010So i found this link from theunlockr.com which shows you how to root your eris and put 2.1 on it. I want 2.1 but i am not sure about the root. Any cons to rooting? Will i still receive ota updates? Anything i can do with rooted eris that i can't do with non-rooted that would make the phone a lot better? I don't want to overclock it i am just looking for more options with the phone. Will i lose all my contacts and apps by doing this? Can i use different apps like the ones the moto droid can use but i can't because i am on 1.5?

Jun 23, 2010Hey everybody, I've looked for an answer on here, but to no avail. I tried to root my replacement Eris with 1.5, and HBOOT 1.47. Everything was going well until it got to the point of making a recovery, which for some reason, my phone wouldn't let me do. Infuriated and frustrated, I followed the steps to go back to 1.5 to a tee. However, I miss Vlingo so much, and i went to install the OTA 2.1, and it aborted the installation. I now have HBOOT 1.49.2000, so does my phone basically think I have the 2.1v3 leak, or am I just flat-out screwed? Done multiple factory resets, etc. and they haven't helped either

Apr 20, 2010In our alltel contract, all my family lines get unlimited data for $40 a month. My parents are looking to upgrade their regular phones (for free) and I was going to recommend the eris (from amazon) to them. I have heard some talk of not having very good signal and mention of some bugs and want to know how much truth there is behind these (especially signal) or if they were lemons, etc. if it matters all my parents would do is call/text (obviously), email sync, and maybe browse the web every once in a while. Bugs with, say face book, wouldn't matter.

May 27, 2010I followed all of these instructions to downgrade my wife's rooted 2.1 and it seems to have worked fine. I've got it back to 1.5. She wanted the OTA upgrade because the 2.1 rooted version was giving her the silent call issue. Again, I went back to 1.5 because I wanted the OTA update. After doing this, she got the OTA update notification, it downloaded, processed and then failed. I've also tried to install the OTA manually and it won't work. The hboot is version 1.47. Has anybody had success downgrading their 2.1 rooted install to 1.5 and then getting the OTA update to work? I'm back at 1.5. What should I do next to get the OTA update working?

Also, I can't get a simple definitive answer, that doesn't preface something Like, Here's a Link go read this and the 20 other links it references as well.Not that I have a problem reading all the info, it's just that everyday the answers change or someone offers a "better mousetrap" or just confuses the issue with opinions instead of facts.If there is anybody who can simply tell me if on leak 3 and the recent update, I can Root, How to "simply" do it. That one click root thread seems simple enough! And can give me the name and link of a ROM that will get rid of the Crap that runs in the background but wont cripple or disable the phones main functions such as Phone, GPS Email and the modified FLASH we have had since day one that for me at least, Works. I would be forever indebted.One other thing I would like to change is the phone dialer, I would love Moto Droid one, That just puts a large keypad on the screen, with tabs for contacts, recent etc. Instead of the horrible 1/2 screen one we have. that when you try swiping through the contacts it always dials them!

Jul 5, 2010I had my phone rooted and I accidentally hit volume down and power instead of volume up and power (I was going to flash a new ROM). I was asked to press action and update like I did the first time I rooted but after it was finished I tried to go and flash a ROM it just brought me to a screen with an android robot and a triangle with an exclamation point.
