HTC Eris :: Downgrade 2.1 Root To 1.5 OTA?

I followed all of these instructions to downgrade my wife's rooted 2.1 and it seems to have worked fine. I've got it back to 1.5. She wanted the OTA upgrade because the 2.1 rooted version was giving her the silent call issue. Again, I went back to 1.5 because I wanted the OTA update. After doing this, she got the OTA update notification, it downloaded, processed and then failed. I've also tried to install the OTA manually and it won't work. The hboot is version 1.47. Has anybody had success downgrading their 2.1 rooted install to 1.5 and then getting the OTA update to work? I'm back at 1.5. What should I do next to get the OTA update working?

and on another android forum. every thread is huge with a TON of people having problems and answers scattered everywhere. Is there one place with an updated guide for windows and mac or just mac that officially roots so I can install custom ROMs? What about downgrading? I've been bouncing all around to different forums and guides and none are clear. The XDA thead by toast also says his root doesn't allow custom ROMs but I've seen custom ROMs mentioning toast?

How to downgrade and root your DInc from 2.2. when i try to type :adb push flash_image /data/local/ the cmd just says error device not found when my phone is on charging and usb debuging.

I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade/downgrade an android phone (samsung mostly) with official firmwares without the need to root? The reason is that some testing is needed on these devices and only with official firmwares it would be valid. And at will it would be nice to be able to switch versions for different test purposes.

When I try to place the recovery.img in the /tools folder, it tells me that there is already a file named 'recovery.img'. Should I go ahead and have it replaced by this new one?

Can any version of the leak be downgraded? for example can version 3 be downgraded the same way as version 1 or 2? (do all three use the same bootloader?)

I have been Googling/Youtubing/ everything to try and find a way to downgrade to version 1.5 so i can root my droid eris. I just found that they only way to downgrade is to have a rooted phone? so in order for me to root my phone...i need to have an already rooted phone?! my question is, is there a way to downgrade from 2.1 to 1.5? or is there seriously not a way?

I received the 2.1 OTA and ran the update. My phone is much more sluggish and I would like to revert back to the 1.5 software. Is this possible???

I found this on Android Central (thanks to IzelTokatl) and someone there did verify it worked for OTA 2.1 phones. I tried it on my leak version 3 phone and I got the Hboot error again. I'm thinking this does not bode well for phones with the leak as once Verizon releases the upgrade for download from PCD or HTC we still won't be able to use it until the Hboot problem is fixed. The following instructions for doing the downgrade to 1.5 are cut and pasted from the Android Central forum and I edited them for PC's: Download the MR2 Upgrade Eris ROM from verizon partner: personal Communications Devices
1. Unzip the file
2. Plug your phone into your PC.
3. Navigate to folder ADR6200_MR2_Upgrade
4. Run .exe file in the folder (RUU_Desire_C_Verizon_WWE_1.17.605.1_release_signe d_with_driver.exe)
5. follow on screen instructions.

I have installed root and all was good, but i put my default gmail as the one that did not have my purchased apps so i need to factory reset. If i factory reset will my root stay or do i need to re-root?

Hey everybody, I've looked for an answer on here, but to no avail. I tried to root my replacement Eris with 1.5, and HBOOT 1.47. Everything was going well until it got to the point of making a recovery, which for some reason, my phone wouldn't let me do. Infuriated and frustrated, I followed the steps to go back to 1.5 to a tee. However, I miss Vlingo so much, and i went to install the OTA 2.1, and it aborted the installation. I now have HBOOT 1.49.2000, so does my phone basically think I have the 2.1v3 leak, or am I just flat-out screwed? Done multiple factory resets, etc. and they haven't helped either

In our alltel contract, all my family lines get unlimited data for $40 a month. My parents are looking to upgrade their regular phones (for free) and I was going to recommend the eris (from amazon) to them. I have heard some talk of not having very good signal and mention of some bugs and want to know how much truth there is behind these (especially signal) or if they were lemons, etc. if it matters all my parents would do is call/text (obviously), email sync, and maybe browse the web every once in a while. Bugs with, say face book, wouldn't matter.

yesterday i read this on the rollback thread. "Anywho, with the Desire root method being released tomorrow, (It'll probably work on the Incredible too! ) that gives us a closer chance to rooting the Eris leaked 2.1." just wondering if any of the devs have looked into it and if so what progress has been made?

I've gone through the tutorials for how to root the eris on 1.5 like 30 times now, and they are all based for a PC. With my mac, some things are different, and therefore i can't find a way to root it. Does anyone have a guide for how to root on a mac?

I saw a similar thread, but didn't see the answer I was looking for. I did the OTA upgrade to 2.2 last week. Having some problems, so I thought I might roll it back to 2.1. Is doing the factory reset the same as downgrading to 2.1? OR is there some other way to downgrade? If so, could somebody provide step by step instructions?

So i got to the step on XDAweb's guide to root 2.2 where: cd /data/local./flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img then reboot the phone. it went through flawlessly and it rebooted. now, i have no video on the screen, its all black. i pulled the battery, i tried to abd to it, but it said device not found. i can hear the startup chime, feel the hauptic force feedback, so i know the phone itself is working, but for some reason the screen crapped out! I use this phone for work as an IT professional and im kinda up a creek.

I can not for the life of me get the recovery image to work. I have downloaded sdk and all of the drivers but can not figure out how to get step #10 You can test to make sure everything is working by going to a command prompt, go tools directory of the Android SDK, and type: "ad b shell". If you see a "$" (or "#" if you're already rooted) sign you're good. How do you go to the TOOLS directory of SDK and type ad b shell when I am in my tools directory I do not have a command prompt. When I open a command prompt I can not figure out how to get to where I need to be... Guess this is over my head I can build a Harley motor in my sleep but can not figure this out Any help would be great thanks in advance and sorry for the dumb questions but I cant figure it out.

I'm supposed to be on figure no. 40 in the Universal Eris Root for Dummies thread, but my ROM that I just downloaded (from my Eris browser) and it's not listed. Totally confused about if I can Root or Not, If it will cure my problems (unresponsiveness, Freeze up's and the annoying self starting useless apps - Amazon MP3, my uploads, Footprints etc.).And of course, How to do it?I Progressed through all 3 leaks on My ERIS and now (just last week) have the OTA update as well.I know this has been talked about B4 but I can't seem to find the correct thread. Also, I can't get a simple definitive answer, that doesn't preface something Like, Here's a Link go read this and the 20 other links it references as well.Not that I have a problem reading all the info, it's just that everyday the answers change or someone offers a "better mousetrap" or just confuses the issue with opinions instead of facts.If there is anybody who can simply tell me if on leak 3 and the recent update, I can Root, How to "simply" do it. That one click root thread seems simple enough! And can give me the name and link of a ROM that will get rid of the Crap that runs in the background but wont cripple or disable the phones main functions such as Phone, GPS Email and the modified FLASH we have had since day one that for me at least, Works. I would be forever indebted.One other thing I would like to change is the phone dialer, I would love Moto Droid one, That just puts a large keypad on the screen, with tabs for contacts, recent etc. Instead of the horrible 1/2 screen one we have. that when you try swiping through the contacts it always dials them!

I got my eris 2 weeks ago so 2.1, and it has hboot 1.49 (can someone tell me wht that is/means?) was already on it. I've found out that the hboot is why I can't root. Has anyone came up w/ a workaround yet?
I only want to root to be able to use the Eris as a hot spot for my itouch, so if there is another way to do that.
