View 1 Replies View RelatedThen I tried doing Toast's root and got confused at step 2 (the adb step).
Now, I know a LITTLE about what ADB is and that you basically only need it so you can use your computer to type/see things instead of doing it all on your phone.
(This is the thread that I'm using by the way: [TUTORIAL] How To Root The HTC EVO ~ Part-1 / - xda-developers)
1. So, so far, I downloaded SDK package, saw the "tools" folder and see the "adb" file. When I click on it, it pops up like a "command/cmd" screen and disappears. Is it supposed to happen like that? Or am I doing something wrong?
2. Also, in Toast's method, when he says to put the PC36IMG.zip file on the root of your sdcard. What does he mean by that? I'm sure it's something simple but I'd rather be sure how to "put it in the root of your sdcard". Just that mean just right in the front by all the folders?
3. Next thing the page says is: "adb push PC36IMG.zip /sdcard"
I don't know what he means by that. Am I supposed to do something here?
The steps follow this (until it's Rooted) I understand but not this.
4. Then after rooting there are some other steps he has in the original thread that say somethings about "adb shell, adb.. etc"
What do all those mean?
I have installed root and all was good, but i put my default gmail as the one that did not have my purchased apps so i need to factory reset. If i factory reset will my root stay or do i need to re-root?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is for all of you who are having troubles getting your application "Wireless Tether for Root Users" to work. I personally kept getting an error on which would say "Initializing WiFi Interface: Failed." I have since been able to get it to work. Here's how.
Disclaimer: Obviously you need a rooted phone for this to work, We're in Root forums for a reason. You will also need the Amon Recovery Partition.
Steps:
1. Boot phone into Recovery by holding Volume Up + Power (End Button).
2. Wipe phone of all data.
3. Flash to the 0_3 rom, install Astro File Manager from the Market
4. Download and install file from below and place into phones SD card.
5. Install from Astro by opening it in App Manger, Open up application and enjoy!
Wireless Tether!
Used Toast root this morning successfully and without problem. Trying to use evo-recovery and every time I try to do anything I get the error, "error: device not found." Any ideas how to fix it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedTrying to root for the first time; I ran the one click root app I got from here:

and it said it was successfully rooted. I can execute su from adb shell (and the phone pops up saying that unknown has been granted superuser). But I don't have flash_image in /system/bin so I can't flash a recovery image, and I tried the instructions in the link in this post:
What am I doing wrong: BootLoader/Flash_Image/Recovery Image (basically download the flash_image, mount system as rw, and push it in to /system/bin) but it still doesn't work. The mount seems to work (doesn't give any error messages) but the adb push command gives: failed to copy 'flash_image' to '/system/bin/flash_image': Permission denied
i recently bought a cheap irulu tablet off ebay. it's running 4.2.2, and i'm not quite sure if it's rooted or not. i've read that most of their tablets are rooted right out of the box, so i downloaded 4 or 5 root checkers from the marketplace and some said it was rooted and some said it was not. i know that it does have su and busybox installed, but i don't have one of those superuser apps that request permission or anything. i can browse my full phone with any file explorer. i installed titanium backup, and it says on the main screen that root access is ok, but then it will pop up an error message that says:
BusyBox works but the "su" command does not elevate to root. There's something wrong with your "su" binary and/or "Superuser" app.
What are the advantages of root explorer over estrongs file explorer?

I am using Ubuntu (newbie) and I installed JRE, JDK and Android-SDK knowing that this is what I need to start developing android apps. However, I noticed that platform-tools directory is missing. According to some articles that I read, I need to run the android tool inside the "Tools" folder to get a copy of the missing folder. But when I try to run "android" tool, it gives me this error "android: Command not found". I did not do anything aside from installing JRE, JDK and Android-SDK.

Motorola Droid - Original
1. Rooted 2.1, then
2. OTA Stock Update to 2.2, then
3. Seem to have lost root, However - I still have the Superuser Permissions Icon.
I use Barnacle for WiFi Tether - I get a "Permission Denied" error when I try to start the application. I also went into the terminal emulator and tried an "su" which also gave a permission denied response. I tried "sudo" and also got permission denied response. Others have told me this is common with this progression of events. However, How do I now ROOT 2.2 in this scenario?
I just rooted my stock froyo with it! If this has already been discussed.

So I'm trying to put kali Linux onto my phone using the vnc way. I have the file (1gb zipped 3gb unzipped) I have 11gb of free space on my phone. I have to get that file over to /kali a folder I created using root explorer. Yes I am rooted with supersu. I mount the system as r/w and when I paste this file into that folder my phone crashes. Like it begins to do it (gets nothing done) and then crashes. I managed to get the zip file into the folder but when I try to extract it it crashes as well. This Also doesn't work on nexus 7 2013 running slimbean. Why can't I move that file there?
I have root access in my program, but i am still unable to rename a file in /system/media. once root has been obtained my code is

ba.renameTo (new File ("/system/media/bootanimation.zip.bak"));

I'm trying to gain root and having some problems...
I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.
After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html
to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?
I am trying to route my HTC Hero (locked to Orange UK).Following jUsT2eXy's instructions :-
1)Download it.
2)Save it to your SD Card ROOT (not in any folders)
3)Open up a file manager on your phone (Download ASTRO File Manager from the marketplace..if you don't have a file manager..)
4)Find the 'InstantRoot.apk' file.
5)Run it.
6)It will say it's been successful
Ok, so on step 4, I am opening ASTRO, clicking InstantRoot, clicking Open App Manager (other displayed option is Browse file), clicking Install (then Install again). It then displays 'Application installed'. However, I get a notification stating 'Install Root failed / Root access was not acquired'. What am I doing wrong? More info if required Firmware = 1.5

First off, I want to say thanks to Kam187 & the Creators of asroot Okay, Below is the Method I used for getting Root working for my app's.even though Shell is running as Root, any Call's made to su trigger's the white List Superuser.apk, So don't think your phone is wide open. G1's & MT3G Setup's are the same regard sh.I'm not sure is the apk is counted as warez or not, if so I hope a Mod will remove the link to the Apk or let me know to Remove it Okay, File's Need to complete the Task is.Try3 Placed in C:SDK ols> found here > try3 SU for /system/bin found here > su Superuser app control for our App's found Here > Superuser.apk Next, Mount the SDCARD and place the SU file in the root of the sdcard like so ( /sdcard ). This is Important! From here we do the Following. ( Kam187 script the I edited ).

I have attempted to root using Unlock Root "its supported?" but unsuccessful.
Okay, we have many little things going around so I'm going to try and consolidate for everybody. With my phone having hardware issues I've practically got this memorized now. These are basic steps, if you do not know how to flash a file you need to do a little more reading before you follow this. I take no responsibility for your actions, they are yours! If you destroy your phone, I cannot help you. Most of the links I provided have instructions on them. If they are just downloads, it assumes you know how to use the file provided.
