HTC Eris :: Wired Tether Root Program / No Internet Access

Mar 31, 2010

I rooted my eris the other day with the all in one 0_3. I have a few questions about everything.

1. How do I know If there is an update for the specific root I used? and to update will I lose everything?
2. I can't seem to get usb tether to work. pdanet works but I want all access. the wired-tether-root program. It runs on my Eris, but doesn't access the net. xp x86 and 7 x64. I have two root required wireless applications installed that work perfectly, I just want a usb app too.
3. If the rooted ROM I used isn't the best, can I get some opinions as to what to try?r making this possible for us all!

Also I cant reduce a file into small buffers because i am just sending it to "DocumentBuilder.parse(in)" as a whole so can not use buffer. The error is on line: Document doc = db.parse(in).

Motorola Droid :: Root Problems - App - No Root Access

May 10, 2010

I'm trying to gain root and having some problems...

I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.

After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:

http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html

to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?

General :: App Access To Files?

Jan 1, 2014

what controls the access that apps have to the user-visible file structure that I see via the "My Files" widget (structure shown as "Root" with subfolders "Alarms", "Android", "Download", "Movies", etc. etc.)? Or do all apps automatically have permission to access all of this? If it makes any difference, this is on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 running Android 4.0.4.

General :: Access Files On VPN Server?

Jul 26, 2010

I have a PPTP VPN connection that I use from time to time to access files on my Windows server at work when I am at home on my laptop or on another computer. It works great... I just map the drive in windows and bingo, my files are there.

So, I was excited when I set my VPN connection up on my Samsung Captivate (it is rooted, if it matters). I set everything up, and it connected on the first try. I sat there and looked at the screen and thought, "okay, what do I do now?"

Perhaps I am missing the boat on this whole VPN for Android thing, but is there a way to access the files on a VPN server? I have the ability to map the drives on a PC, but I can not find a spot to do it on the Android.

HTC Droid Eris : Trying To Download Apk Files As Zip Files?

May 6, 2010

I'm trying to download the SMS app from XDA and the guy has it up as a zip file. I download it and extract it, and it's a folder with random crap in it. No apk.

Then I read that I just change the file name. I'm on a Mac, so I change the filename and it verifies if I want to change it from .zip to .apk and I say "yes." Put it on my card and Astro still doesn't recognize it. It's list, but it's an icon with a window and a gear in front of it.

I installed the Vanilla email app, no problem. Not sure what the deal is with this one.

Android :: Can App Access Files On Removable Media?

Oct 27, 2009

From what I've been able to find, Android apps are sandboxed, and can only list, read, and write files within the application's data directory (e.g. /data/data/<pkgname>). but, what about an application that allows users to view photos on an SD card (or play music, etc)? Surely this must be possible. Does one have to write a Service Provider for this?
