Any good books on Linux, and kernels.. say for beginners/text book style?
The more I get frustrated by root, Roms, the more I'm intrigued by it
Haven't put my phone or computer down for the longest time. I get off of work and just want to keep tinkering. Get home from the gf's and right back at it. Sure eat, maybe sleep a little then work agian but still fiddling with my phone
Where do I start aside from paying for a class?

Just like the title says: Let's see who on here has neglected their poor Eris the most and kept it on for the greatest amount of time.
Please provide photographic proof---the ol' "my buddy left his on for like 3 months lol and then it overheated and burst into flames omg" won't cut it.

I still haven't received the update. I'm in the greater Los Angeles, CA area. I also bought the phone when it first came out but that shouldn't matter. Anyone else not receive it yet?
One thing I'm speculating is 'Background Data.' Do I need to leave that on to receive the update? I leave it off and only turn it on when I'm browsing the Market. All I need to leave on is '3G Mobile Network' right? I don't leave it on 24/7 so maybe I was supposed to receive it OTA but my 3G was off.
It's really bugging me that all the people I know that own a crappy Eris already received the update and I'm still sitting here with an expired 1.5 cupcake...

I would like to have an application sync itself with some files on a host computer.. Anyone know if this is possible? Eg: When you connect an Android phone to a computer i would like an application on the android system to read some allowed folders on the connected computer. Making it so the user doesn't have to sync files itself.

i was avaible to swap pictures, music and everything between the 2...but now i took out my memory card from my old hd2 and put it in(hence its 16gb, and i didnt even use my hd2 for a day it was given to me so it has nothing crazy on it) and now when i plug in my vibrant, it dosent read the card for some reason, removable drive pops up, but it wont access it, i also saw this happen with someone elses vibrant, any advice?...and oh yea, i do press mount on the usb thing on the vibrant screen.

On laptop: Mobipocket, Caliber, MSWord
There's a vast amount of material in MSWord format that I wish to read on my Eris. I can save a file as .txt and put it on my SD card using Astro, etc., but Quickoffice and Tulip are the only readers able to read those files - and both are otherwise inadequate. I've never passed the Caliber IQ test. It seems to convert to epub, but none of those readers ever see the result.

This is my first post and it comes with some questions:
First and foremost at random times my 3G is turned off even though I haven't turned it off...go into the setting and it says its still on. Only way to turn it back on is to turn it off and then turn it back on? Any ideas just a problem with the phone maybe. Didn't know if anyone has encountered this problem
Second is there and application that I can use that will let me select what things will startup with a reset of the phone? Also is there an easy way to reset the phone without a battery pull? I just like to do this when Unistalling apps and installing apps...always seems faster after downloading or Unistalling after I do this.

I sync my Eris with Outlook on my computer but have not done so since March 2010. When I now plug my Eris into a USB port, it does not recognize it as another drive or hardware like it used to. The computer does recognize other peripherals when plugged into the USB port.

My first computer was a hand-me-down from my father. It had a Pentium II, 200ish mhz. I think it had 64 MB ram and a 2 gig hard drive. I'm pretty sure that my Eris is faster and better than this computer in every respect except for screen size, but I wonder, how does the Eris's processor compare to other x86 processors out there? Has anybody benchmarked arm based CPUs against old pentium CPUs? Does anybody know how our phone processors stack up against computer processors?

I want to tether my phone to my computer using that option the phone gives you when you plug it in via miniUSB. Windows XP does not find any drivers when I tell it to look for them. Is there some program or place I can get them?
I was told that with root you could go around programs like EasyTether and PDAnet which don't allow you to go to https sites.

Is there a way to use my computer to make calls through my Eris? I want to dial from my computer, speak through my computer's microphone and hear the other person through my computer's speakers. I don't want to use VOIP though, I just want a program that will sync those functions with my phone. I ultimately would like to be able to dock my phone and not have to touch it until I want to unplug it.

I am dealing with a application which associate with GPS mock locations and XMPP communication,and need to send the mock location to two emulator by ADT at the same time. However I've got a problem .It seems that the location can't be send to two emulator in my computer at the same time. I finally received my Eris today. So... I rushed home, plugged the phone into the wall, and did the activation. (This was about four hours ago.) My phone has yet to be charged. By far... this has taken way more than any of my other pones. (Then again, this is my first Smart phone.) So... how long does it usually take for the phone to charge?

I'm fairly new to OpenGL ES and am having a heck of a time trying to get my material to show up. Right now all I'm looking at is a shaded gray rotating triangle. At least it looks shaded (light and dark parts), but now color other than gray.

Ok I've read a gazillion threads on battery life and 2.1 etc etc and you have me all waiting anxiously for an update and bigger batteries but what about actual talk time on the phone? didn't see any threads about that. Its not uncommon for my phone to be a toy all week then on the weekend catch up with some buds or family or whatever and yak on the thing for 2 hours straight. Will it hold? I know my old razer with an ext batt would go 4 hours talk time easy, glimmer would do 2.5 hrs easy with stock battery sometimes more. Pearl did well, haven't really talked the Storm out cause its my work phone and I tend to shun that thing on the weekends ....so let me know how long you've talked on it! Battery life does seem to stink but I can't put the damn thing down so I'm sure that has something to do with it and all my other smartphones sucked battery wise too the first week or so, so I'm not passing judgment yet, just want to know how long i can talk on the thing before it dies....I will do my own testing soon but would like some ideas.

Everyday this phone gets slower and slower...and it takes longer and longer for me to text someone..not only do i send them gibberish cause the phone lags SO BAD...it sends them so many texts of the same thing. i cant do a darn thing with this. I'm about to throw it. nothing i seem to do is making this thing run faster less leggy.
