HTC EVO 4G :: Sprint Store Has Recieved A New Batch?
Jul 8, 2010
My sprint store has finally recieved the new batch of evos this week. I exchanged mine for one today (had some bad screen light leakage all over the phone and it was slowly growing). immediate thoughts:
Yhe back is noticeably grayer than my old one.
The camera has metal shavings (correct term?) and isnt as "polished" and smoothed as the old one. But it really isnt bad..actually feels rugged and more secure ^^.
Screen colors seem..more realistic?..i believe it is an epson now.
Sensitivity seems just a tad bit better...tested it on my old Evo this morning and it was definately slower.
The bottom and sides seem a bit more sealed than before..although not as much as I'd hope for but i guess i have to give it a week to see if the screen starts separating like last time.
And it is hardware version 3. my old one was 2
So...has anyone else gotten a replacement Evo? and if so, notice anything different?..feedback would be great. oh and I'll get back on the battery and if it's different at all (charging right now).

If I want to send a text to a group, will handcent recognize a group I created in the phone listing? Try to figure this out for my son's baseball coach.

Sprint chooses an 'Advocate' for each new phone when it launches, giving a new, not-released phone to one employee to learn the month before the launch. My friend works at a store, and today they decided on their Advocate.My friend said that the Advocate is always decided within about a month of its release!

I had to drive an hour away to pick up my evo because everywhere within a reasonable distance was sold out, but i finaly caved in. I have barely a light leak under my home buton (somewhat thankful that this is my only problem haha) but i like things being perfect and i want to start exchanging evos until my standards are met. But i would like to know if i have to drive an hour or if i can drive 3 mins to the one down the block.

figured i would post this up since i havent seen it here.. wonder if it is true..Visit Your Nearest Sprint Store To Downgrade HTC EVO 4G From Froyo To Eclair.There is some interesting discussion going on XDA Forums that caught our attention. According to XDA member, EyesLikeOlives, he/she recently had a discussion with some Sprint rep who declared HTC EVO 4G is downgrade able from Android 2.2 Froyo to Android 2.1 Eclair.Spoke with a customer service representative from Sprint while moving my replacement HTC EVO 4G from one phone line to the other and asked if he knew of a way to "down-grade" from Froyo to Eclair. His response was this:"I checked the information regarding the degradation of HTC Evo software, you can visit our Sprint store to change the software of your HTC EVO to 2.1 . We will change this for you without any cost."We really don't know if the above mentioned discussion/proposition holds true for rooted HTC EVO 4G owners running Android 2.2 Froyo. Some of the members at the Forum are apprehensive of the situation and claim it as You heard what you wanted to hear and this will never happen actually.

So I bough a couple games from the Sprint store (online) a couple years ago, including Bejewled, Deer Hunter and Tetris. I have changed phones a couple times since then, and was able to redownload them free of charge because it kept records on my account of them. Now I have my Evo and cannot figure out how to get back to the Sprint store site, so I cant get these games I have already paid for. Any ideas?

I have a HTC hero unlocked, using an Oragne sim card. This happened 3 times in the past 4 days that I know of and I am not recieving text messages. I was using Chomp SMS as my text program but now uninstalled that hoping it may fix it. I power cycle my phone daily, this does not solve the issue or then send me the missed texts. Thanks

Is there an app that turns on the screen when an SMS is recieved? I have found one called SMSAwake, and its great and simple, but only turns the screen on for 5 seconds. If there was one out there with which you could customize the duration of the screen turning on, that would be great (perhaps 7-8 seconds?)

Does anyone know how you get the information of a call up ?
The time you made it, length ect.
When you press the call button it only comes up with the number and if it is outgoing/incoming/missed.

This morning I received the 2.2 OTA update for my Droid. The confusing thing is that I am rooted and have 2.2 Sapphire FRG22 build running. I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this or received and update on their rooted phone? Also wondering if I should install it. The Sapphire build seems stable.

Used the bluetooth on my Desire for the first time today, took a bit of fiddling to get it to receive the video it was sent but got there eventually. Question is I can't find where it has saved it. I can see the file in the camcorder option but when I try to open it it disappears.

My device HTC desire doesnt show SMS sender name upon recieving sms(local sms), instead showing the sender number.I am having this sender in my contact list. There is no issues while recieving international SMS, only having problem with local sms. But when the same person calls me, its displaying the caller name correctly.
What would be the reason?
I am in QATAR where country code is +974.
I tried the following.Contacts saved with the country code(+974)
- then its showing the name when sms is recieved, but call recieving
stopped showing caller name - only number is shown.
One thing i noticed is, while recieving SMS, the sender number is preceeded by country code(+974) while recieving a call only caller number is there.

yesterday I accidentally changed the settings on my ally and I set it so I could see the status of my sent messages. I took it off earlier today because it wasn't what I wanted. Now after 3 messages I have a grey box on my screen that says "Message received by (person's number)" and it doesn't go away unless I turn my phone off and back on again. Then after a few texts, it pops up again and won't go away.

I work alot in an area that has very spotty reception, or none at all. My problem is that my wife mainly, or ppl will call or text me and i will not recieve ANY notification of a missed call or text. Usually with my old phone "samsung eternity" i would recieve a missed call or text later once my phone got reception again. Any one else having this problem and also any fixes? My only idea is my task killer might be messing up with it. But i've ignored anything that has to do with text or calls.

I try to select just a certain part of a message I've received, and it seems the only way to copy anything is with a long press in the text field. Unfortunately the only option for copying is copy message and not selected text. I was able to select certain text and copy only it in the browser, but not in SMS/MMS (sometimes I need to copy an address or query). Does anyone know how to change this so I can copy only selected text (partial message)?

Just curious if anyone is worried about getting a phone that is new on the day it is released. Last time I did that I was very disapointed. (VZW Storm 1 owner.) I waited in line to get this PoS and have hated the majority of time I have had it. Anyone worried about something like this with Droid X?

I have a long series of graphics -- icon1_0.png, icon1_1.png, icon1_2.png..., icon12_0.png, icon12_1.png, icon12_2.png -- and I'd like to package them with my android application. Ideally I think I should be able to load them as resources but the resource id's are set up as java identifiers. Of course, java identifiers can't be assembled at runtime. I have to ask for R.drawable.icon12_00 so I cannot set up a loop
for(int icon=0;icon<12;icon++)
for(int frame=0;frame<3;frame++)
//syntax error obviously
BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(), R.drawable."icon" + icon + "_" + frame + ".png");
So is there any way to get resources by their names? Better yet, is there a canonical way outside the resource system to pack data files into an android application package so that I can get at them? I'm thinking about reflection but that doesn't seem like the right solution to me.

I'm looking for an app that can batch rename files, none of the file managers I've seen or use seem to be able to do this. It's an operation I repeat many times every day.
It can be achieved as it is with commands in the terminal, but it's quite uncomfortable to do it this way and mostly not worth the effort, also I use Asian characters ( Japanese, Korean ) and things just get too complicated.
Only thing I could find is something called "re.*" but it's not much better than using the terminal.
Is there anything out there that can simply select files, apply a rule, one/two clicks ?
