Nov 8, 2009I used the navigation function in the "car home" app this weekend for the first time. The nav. worked great. Voice directions were clear and actually helpful for a change and the gps kept a lock on me. However, I had to make a call to tell my friend I was going to be a little late, only to find out after the call ended that navigation was lost. Luckily, I remembered the address and re-started navigation. So two things, I suppose: 1) Can you easily recall previous destinations? 2) Is there a specific way to make/receive calls while using the app? I noticed if I use use the back button and go through the car app (contacts, voice search) I can get back and forth from nav. to phone pretty well. But it still doesn't seem right.

Jun 17, 2010I like how in winmo , you can click the top right icon area and pull up all open apps to quickly switch between them. with android, i have to hit the home screen, swipe left (usually one time) to find my app and "re-open" it again. it's a hassle. maybe android doesn't have this option, maybe it's just a winmo thing, but i'm still getting adjusted from winmo > android.

From the image, I tried changing the boxed text from '<item name="textColor">@color/primary_text_holo_light</item>', and creating my own drawable xml file to link it with that. Color change seems successful, but it also affects other holo white buttons as well (see image). I don't want it to happen, for it renders those buttons unreadable.

Sep 4, 2009I would like to know the way to make a user interface for Android for people that have low vision. The idea is to make a UI with the following features: 1- Uses very very big buttons. 2 -Uses very big font size. 3- Te colors to use are basically black and white (for more contrast). 4- The icons in this UI are not relevant. 5- We must sacrifice the number of chars that we can show in the screen to get bigger labels and buttons. 6- A simple zoom system for the images should be a great idea. 7- We can use the camera of the phone to get a magnifying glass. I'm member of a blind people association in Spain and we think that this should be a great idea for begining a new low-vision-user- interface that is not aviable in the market for the new mobile phones. This will help many people that uses movile phones but have many difficulties to work with them.

Henceforth After every X minutes another broadcast receiver gets those notifications and kicks the service off, which does it's job and quits. So far so good. Oct 31, 2010Is there any way to change this in the android SDK?It looks like some of the .bat files in the ools folder sets some environment variables but cant tell exactly what they are doing.I set my windows system profile settings in the registry to point to d:users and everything else is pointing there but the android sdk keeps wanting to put things in c:users.My reasoning for this is I have a much faster drive as my d drive(5 disk raid0) and my system drive is a 5400 spin ide drive.

May 6, 2010My app creates and shows an AlertDialog which accepts input from the user (the user needs to type some text into an EditInput).
With the AlertDialog on screen, if the user opens up the keyboard on the device, then the app's OnCreate and OnResume methods are called and my AlertDialog promptly disappears from the screen ... not the effect I was hoping for!
I thought that perhaps I needed to override the Activity's onConfigurationChanged method, but despite having the following in my Manifest:
