Sep 11, 2010Is there an app that allows me to switch between open apps?

Is there an app that allows me to switch between open apps?
I open task manager i find no apps running i leave it for 1 min for example and i reopen it, i find some apps running without i run them such as MAIL, Touch input, com.htc why do they open
View 1 Replies View RelatedI like how in winmo , you can click the top right icon area and pull up all open apps to quickly switch between them. with android, i have to hit the home screen, swipe left (usually one time) to find my app and "re-open" it again. it's a hassle. maybe android doesn't have this option, maybe it's just a winmo thing, but i'm still getting adjusted from winmo > android.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had my hero for 3 or 4 days now.I understand that i do not need a task manager to shut-down apps, but don't fully understand how this works, since apps like Pandora (music streaming) and sportypal (gps tracking) continue to run in the "background." Adding to my confusion is the fact that I'm noticing the phone get sluggish lately, even after a fresh reboot, with only two programs running (Pandora and sportypal). The past 3 days, there were no problems, but now I cannot run with music because the music continues to skip - and pandora becomes unresponsive.I thought perhaps there were too many apps (I've downloaded about a dozen apps) and so I uninstalled most of them.No better. What, if anything, am I missing? Can I be low on space or memory, or what?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been with my Droid 4 for about a week, but it has slowed down for some reason.I'm suspecting that it's due to all those open apps, which I don't know how to close. How do you close all apps? Is there task manager? I come from the Windows Mobile world, and, as archaic as the OS was, it was very easy to bring up the task manager, just like in the Desktop Windows OS, and close any or all apps to reclaim memory and speed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Task Manager program and when I open it up to see what's running and what Apps I want to kill I see these listed:
Alarm & Timer (Never used)
Amazon MP3 (Never used)
AppBrain
City ID
Contacts
Dialer
Digital Clock Widget
Dolphin Browser
Ebay (icon on desktop but rarely used)
Facebook
Gmail
Live Scores (Installed but not used)
Mail
Market
MediaShare (Never set up any devices)
Messenger
Music (I'm guessing this is because I have custom ringtones?)
News (No news widget installed)
News and Weather (No news and weather widget installed)
Quickoffice (Installed but never used)
settings
Skype Mobile (Never Used)
Social Networking (Never Used)
Text Messaging (Don't Text AT ALL)
The Weather Channel
Voice Commands (Never Used)
Why do so many of these things start themselves back up and is there a way to stop it?
I have this Motorola Flipside and I installed GOLauncher on it. With it I am using the GO Task Manager, and some other widgets, etc. as well. I have noticed that I will close out stuff I am not using any more, using the GO TM widget, and I will turn off the display/put phone to sleep. Then I'll get a text or something and tend to that, hit the home screen and will see the TM and there are like 10 apps open. I'll close them out again and put the phone back to sleep. A few mins later an e-mail or text comes in and I'll tend to it, home screen, again, a bunch of random apps show up in the TM.
Apps like Facebook Camera, ESPN Score Center, GPS, News, Settings, a widget that I don't even use and others randomly populate in the TM. I haven't even opened them or used them, but they are there. The things that were used are in there, and the items I have locked are there, but that's expected. I just don't understand why things are showing up there that haven't been opened. And randomly? Sometimes I will even close them out, hit refresh on the widget and it will just be what is supposed to be there, hit refresh again, bam - more random things show up. Close those, hit refresh a few times, those/others show up again.
What do I need to change? Or is this just something to do with the phone/launcher, perhaps?
Can anyone recommend a good task manager to get from the market.
Been using the super security app which has slowed my phone down and the task manager on it isnt the best
Few people saying a 'task killer' is bad for androids. Again anyone got an opinion on this?
Do you know if ATK uses much cpu/memory and battery when running in background, when using the autokill-feature when going to standby because it than needs to refresh the running app-list always.
View 1 Replies View Relatedif I remove all these it clears up to 400mb of ram. what benefit is there to leave all the recent apps there? is th3 phone chewing through more battery to use the 1.2gb of ram vs 800mb?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for something that will close apps (and the commands that make them relaunch) in an automatic way (i.e every time the said app is beign activated).
I need something non root ( the apps being closed are not an internal part of the rom), preferably free, and that is trustworthy (security wise).
I've scoured endlessly on Google looking for the best apps for Vibrant. Then I thought why not ask actual users,
These are MY apps on my vibrant:
WHERE - a restaurant finder. Pretty good, I've had issues with the app pinpointing my location, but could have been a fluke.
YELP - another restaurant finder.
FACEBOOK - no introduction needed. This app really needs an update. Keeps switching me b/w the app and the mobile site. Some of my mail threads on fb stop halfway and I can't see new replies.
MOTRIS - a tetris style game. Kind of good but hard to move the pieces around.
TASK MANAGER - an app killer. Pretty good. Could be a lot better, though.
FANDANGO - an app that helps you find theaters near you. Good.
What do you have?
Just got an HTC Desire through O2 in the UK as an upgrade to my old SE P1i. Happy with it so far, still going through it trying to turn off and disable loads of stuff though. Here's some initial questions:
1) I got the Force Close Button program from the marketplace. Should I be using that to close programs to save battery life?
Or should I just leave everything running in the background? Camera, web browser, email, calendar and whatever else I've ever used since I last cycled the power.
2) Is there a particular Task Manager program I should look at? I've got ES File Manager and notice they do a Task Manager as well but didn't know if there's any others that people recommend.
3) Is there a way to disable the SMS threaded/conversation view in the stock SMS program?
4) And to supress the deletion prompt in SMS?...........
I've been using Task Panel X and Advanced Task manager to kill unneeded tasks and keep memory at a maximum.
Recently, every time I open Task Panel X and then revert back to Home screen I get the HTC logo and then a loading screen while the device sets itself. This happens even if I kill NO tasks.
So my solution was to uninstall Task Panel X and then use just Advanced Task Manager. All the sudden, same result.
Everytime I open either of these apps and then go back to home screen I get a BLACK SCREEN WITH HTC LOGO, THEN A BRIEF (10 SECONDS) LOADING SCREEN. THEN ALL IS NORMAL.
I know this was talked about before at different times but I still have 3 questions.
1. what is the difference between a task killer and a task manager?
2. should we be using one of these apps or not?
3. when you look at the awake time if it is like 70% or 80% and you aren't using the phone a bunch I take it that means something is running, how can you find what is running.and is the awake time that big of deal?
Looking for a guide on how to use task killer. I had task killer on and deleted it. I think I was killing tasks that were needed to keep certain functions running that I use frequently. If someone would take the time to help me understand how to use one, I think I would be much more successful with it.
example - text messaging just stopped ( werrent receiving them ) . Once I took task killer off, everything started working again.
Anyway, I just wanted for everyone to post their favorite Task Manager/Killer, and why, and if there are any flaws. I personally use Advanced Task Killer Free. It has a simple UI, and the when you select or unselect apps it remebers it so next time you launch the app you can only remove the apps that you usually do, and keep ones that always run. It doesn't slow down or break the system.
View 40 Replies View RelatedI have tried 3 different task killers but each one do not seem to be killing the task even though it says it is. When i open the "killed" apps, they open to the last screen before they were killed. I am using the froyo ROM. On 2.1, when the apps were killed and then re-opened them, it always went back to the main screen.
View 19 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded my Desire to Froyo I am having trouble closing the apps. I use 'advanced task killer' to kill the apps. But if I go back to the 'advanced task killer' few minutes after closing all the apps, I see all the apps are running again. And also I cant close the default music player with 'advanced task killer'.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using a Task killer without problem since I got the Desire but since yesterday when reading through one of the threads on here and downloading a load of stuff the Task Killer has started behaving badly, I've tried two different Task Killers and they're both doing the same.
When killing some apps the screen seems to restart, like it killed the Sense UI but I've put all the system processes on the ignore list.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a few questions about Task managers. At the moment I'm using ES Task manager. It works well and has a nice interface. My questions are.
A) Does the Android OS even need a task manager? Some say their not needed. The ones I've used do clear out tasks, frees up memory, and saves on the systems load.
B) What tasks should I clear?Lets say for example I killed voice mail at startup. Does this mean If someone called I would not receive voice mail until I reloaded the voice mail app, or would the phone see a voice mail is incoming and reload the program?

View 3 Replies View RelatedHow do I jump between running/open apps? Yesterday I was playing spades and chatting with a friend on google talk. It was terrible. I could not jump between the game and the chat. I had to hit home button, then menu then Google talk, to go back to spades I could hold the down home button and jump back to spades from the popup window. I could not do this with google talk from spades because google talk was not in the recently opened apps popup window.

I'm currently running Fresh and want to try Damage Control. Anyway everytime I select the "backup current rom" option it prompts me for the file name and just boot to recovery mode and does nothing. Is there something I need to do to allow ROM Manager to work? I'm I fully rooted if i'm running Fresh? Can someone post instructions on how to flash between ROMs using Rom Manager?
