Motorola Droid : Should I Delete Some Apps To Open Up More Memory?

Nov 16, 2009

I have had my droid since launch day and read about how there isn't much room for apps but didn't think much of it. But my phone is slow and lags when i try to go home, it sticks between screens and i have to swipe the phone to get it to go to a screen. I am using Open Home when this happens. Should i delete some apps to open up more memory on the on board memory?

Motorola Droid :: Memory Usage Works When Open Running Services Tab?

Nov 14, 2010

how the memory works on my orginial motorola droid (2.2). When I open the running services tab I see this on the bottom:

Other: 54MB in 3 Avail:19MB+45MB in 7

I'm wondering if someone can explain what this means. I assume this is all coming out of the 256MB of Ram the droid has? I was also installing app's and got a memory low warning aftering firefox beta that was 14MB in size. I gather that almost all the apps do not support installing to the SD card yet if ever. So of like the 100 apps I have installed is it likley that they are all taking up room of the RAM of the 256MB? I'm also wondering if there is a good app that shows you how much of your RAM is full with apps, so you know when you need to uninstall some etc. Like you are using 200MB out of 256MB or whatever.

HTC Droid Eris :: Available Memory

Aug 12, 2010

I have an HTC Eris, not rooted with the OTA 2.1. I used to use ATC to try to manage battery and speed but recently started reading about how worthless they are with the 2.1. So, I downloaded System Panel Lite, just to monitor things and have the ability to kill something if I needed to. Now, since I haven't been using ATC I've been noticing that my available memory stays very low. Right now it's sitting at about 29/30M. And of course, if I kill all the background stuff it'll jump to about 75 or 80M, but then it'll kill my auto updates and synchs. Kind of a no win situation if you ask me.

Also, since I've stopped using ATC I've noticed the battery isn't as good as it was. It's still not too bad, but could be better. I unplugged it from the charger yesterday morning and am at 45% remaining. Is this about what everyone else gets?

So, basically, if anyone has any suggestions or words of wisdom, I would appreciate it. I was going to do the factory reset but now I understand it could kill 3G so.... I won't be doing that anytime soon. Also, before you suggest it, I already know about the basic battery saver techniques such as display and background data settings.

Android :: Out Of Memory / Orientation Change / Memory Analyzer Question

Jan 21, 2010

My application is designed to support both portrait and landscape orientations. Using my HTC IO device, it survives 12 orientation changes before throwing an out of memory exception while inflating my activity. When I follow the recommended procedure of using DDMS to first force a GC and then write a heap dump, and then load it into the Eclipse Memory Analyzer, there is only one retained instance of my application, as there should be. None of the other retained objects are obvious offenders. Just for yuks, I reran the test, and did everything the same way except I didn't force a GC. In this case I see 13 instances of my application, which is more consistent with throwing an OOM exception. Is this telling me something useful? If forcing a GC with DDMS reclaims the memory used by now-defunct instances of my activity, I would have thought the VM would have garbage collected some, if not all of these defunct activities automatically. Do I need to request GC at the very beginning of my activity lifecycle to make sure?

HTC Droid Eris :: Got Low Memory Warning Message

Jun 3, 2010

I received a 'low memory' message last night and my first action was to dump some unneeded apps which seemed to relieve the problem, but I figure that it is just a matter of time until it comes back. I am not using the SD card for anything right now and was wondering if that could be a path to avoiding this in the future. If so, what can I move there and how do I do it? Can I run apps from the SD card? I have a couple of large 3rd party apps including Grocery iQ (9.25MB), Touchdown (7.98MB), Documents to Go (7.59MB) and Trapster (4.61MB) along with a bunch that are in the 3-4MB range.

Getting memory low warning on my Eris. Available space on internal storage is only 28MB. Available space on SD card is 7,506 MB out of total space of 7,572 MB. So, I guess the only thing on the SD card is the pics I took. What can I move to the SD card, and how do I go about doing that? I would think just moving all the Market Apps to the SD side would solve my problems. Any help out there?

HTC Droid Eris :: Can Someone Interpret This - Memory Data

Mar 15, 2010

In the 2.1 Eris:

In Settings -> Applications -> Running Services

There is a white bar at the bottom. Mine says:

Avail: 10MB + 0.00B in 5 Other:0.00B in 6

(Those numbers have been different, obviously at different times. The above numbers are after killing the still-running Music, Listen, and AK Notebook processes. No other "non-essential" proceses were running. )
But what do they mean?

How does that correlate to Settings -> SD card & phone storage which tells me Available space is 86 MB?

HTC Droid Eris :: Low Memory / Uninstalling Apps

Just switched from a blackberry for the past 3 years to the eris. Loving the phone loving android its amazing compared to my storm1. Just a couple basic questions to ask real quick.

1. App memory. On my blackberry I got into the habit of constantly checking my app memory. I have about 12 apps installed and jump around 30-55 available memory. Should I be worried about my app memory and keep freeing it up?

2. How many apps do you all have installed I see tons of apps I want but I tend to uninstall them because of app memory.
