Samsung Captivate : Change Home Buttons At Bottom Of Main Screen?
Aug 23, 2010
I have looked everywhere in the forums and although I know it is in here I can't seem to find the answer to this question. How do I change the home buttons at the bottom of the main screen? I have switched to k9 mail and would like to replace the stock email icon there.

i saw a video back when i was debating between evo and epic, and it showed me how to change those bottom 4 buttons (PHONE CONTACTS MESSAGING APPLICATIONS). i figure phone and contacts kinda go hand in hand so its a waste, and i use HANDCENT. now that i have the phone i cant figure out how to do it to save my life. anyone have any ideas?
The same feature also allowed you to swap around the applications view, and delete unused home pages. i dont need 7 pages id be fine with 4 or 5 (multicon FTW)

Most screen shots of Touchdown have the Home Screen Buttons on the left side. My Samsung Vibrant has them across the bottom and I can't figure out how to get them on the left. The Nitro Desk configuration manual shows them on the left, but the installation manual shows them on the bottom. It does not say in any of the manuals how to move them.

I have 3 home screens but when I press the "Home" button, it always goes to the 3rd (last) home screen. Is there a way to specify which home screen I want to return to when pressing the "Home" button?

Okay so here is another strange thing I noticed with the update.2 of the 3 phones that got the update now have a little home icon on the bottom of one of the touchwiz screens when you are in the edit mode. This page with the home icon can now be moved to whereever you want it in the positioning of the 1-7 screens you have and when you click on the "home" key at the very bottom it will go to that screen. Previously there was no home key and your home screen was either the middle or far left screen depending on the number of screens you had.

How do I change the icon that is used for bookmarks added to a home screen? I has the favicon really tiny in the corner of the red bookmark icon, but I want to replace the entire red bookmark star icon with a better icon or a large version of the favicon.

I wish to change the 2 shortcuts at the bottom of Gingerbread default home screen (Phone, Browser) to something else (Messages, Gmail). But I couldn't find a way to change those icons either by press and hold on the shortcut, or by dragging icons from the Apps screen.
What's the best way to change them without using 3rd party launchers?

I am not able to find out the perfect layout(viewgroup) to place four buttons as shown in the attached image. Basically, i want to place four buttons near the top/left/bottom/right edge of the screen. AbsoluteLayout helped, but it is deprecated (It is also better to avoid AbsoluteLayout as it is not very flexible for orientation changes)

For those with the Samsung Captivate, are you able to change the applications that are on the bottom tool bar? I could see switching out the native mail app and putting in the gmail app on that tool bar. Is this possible?

I'm doing my usual pushing buttons. I dl'd the manual but can't figure this out. I have on the main screen an option of 5 different things: wifi (on/off), bluetooth (on/off), something, something, screen brightness. I think I toggled it on but don't know how to turn it off now.

I updated to 2.1 recently, and I am using Helix launcher with 5 screens. I let a friend use my phone the other night and when she gave it back, it was messed up. I mean, it seems to work the same, but there are 5 small screens at the bottom of my home screen that look as if they are previews/shortcuts to the other screens. I cannot seem to figure out how she got that on there, or how to get rid of it! It's really annoying. Anyone have a clue??

I just got a Samsung Captivate and I love it. But there are four applications at the bottom of the screen that includes, Phone, Email, Browser, and Applications. They came there with the phone. I was wondering if you can remove/edit these 4 applications so you can put others there. Because I would like to replace the samsung email app with the google email app.

This is difficult for me to diagnose because the Log doesn't provide the offending code line that indicates what caused it.Running the app in the Emulator seems to work OK until I press Home or Back from the Main Activity. Using Back between the activities in the program seems to work OK, it only fails at the Main. I don't have the app finished yet so I haven't loaded it to a device yet.The Log says there was a null pointer exception so I would like to find why.The log points to the android routines (and I don't appear to have the source for those routines in the emulator-most but not all and these are refering to those I can't access). The log gives up at one point and says "11 more".It would be nice to see the remaining 11 in the hopes that one of them points to the line in my code that caused the offense.I'm looking for ideas on ways to find the error and hopefully cure it.

I'm trying to figure out how to change the icons at the bottom of the screen but I'm failing miserably at it...or I'm beginning to think that it's just not possible?
Specifically I'm wanting to change the Messaging icon out to be the one for Handcent (or any other messaging icon other than stock). Yes, I realize I can set it to point to use Handcent by default, but when you initially open it, it doesn't start to use Handcent initially, only once you go into conversations does it start to use the Handcent application.
Is there a way to do this like there is on the other Galaxy devices or is this completely locked down on the Epic and I need to download another UI in order to change this?

My app has 5 different relative layouts that it can switch between by using a set of buttons that is at the bottom of the screen. 3 of the layouts contain only TextViews and ImageViews. The other 2 both have a ListView in them. On the 2 views that contain lists when the soft keyboard appears the buttons that are along the bottom move up to on top of the soft keyboard. But on the other 3 views the buttons get hidden by the keyboard. The buttons all have the attribute android:alignParentBottom="true" does anyone know why they'd be behaving differently when one of these two are the active layout at the time?

I returned my HTC hero after a week because it had a dead pixel, but I also noticed dust under the lower portion of the screen right above the buttons on bottom. I use a otterbox commuter case while has covers for the dock and head phone jack, so Im assuming the dust came in between the buttons and the bottom of the screen.

Is there an app that will randomly change your home screen and wallpaper to a different one at some pre-determined interval, say every time the phone restarts? There are so many cool looking home screens and wallpapers that I can't make up my mind. It would be nice to select a bunch and then have them randomly selected every restart or specified interval, kind of like shuffle on a CD player.

My galaxy s2's screen has occasionally stopped responding, the os was still running and everything so it wasnt frozen, my touch screen just simply stopped working. Only way to fix it was to hit the back of the phone and do a battery reset. This issue started poping up more and more, and now it won't respond.
Model: GT-I9100M
No custom roms/kernels have ever been installed, has always run off the stock. Never been dropped or had water on it (I took very good care of it).
The nav bar at the bottom (back/search/options/menue) and hardware buttons all work. Everything above the screen no longer works.
What iv done: I've reset the phone, did a bettery pull for the night, fully charged it, looked at the board and checked all the connections (all good). Would flashing a custom rom/kernel be something to try next? Why would the bottom nav bar work but no the rest of the screen? Could it be locked somehow? If it is.. how would I unlock it?

Coming from the iphone, those bottom buttons on the Vibrant are so difficult.First, it often takes some hunting to get them to respond, especially the far left one, which take several attempts quite often.Because they're not tactical in the dark, it's highly problematic that they LEDs time-out after a measly 3 seconds! What's the point of the LEDs if they're going to shine for that short of time?I'd have to say this is the most frustrating part of this phone. Hopefully, these woes can be cured with a software update?
