Is it possible to change an application icon directly from the program? I mean, change icon.png in the resdrawable folder. I would like to let users to change application's icon from the program so next time they would see the previously selected icon in the launcher.

I'm trying to write some functional tests for my application that include interactions with the UI. As part of the test I'm trying to press a button programmatically. I've both tried TouchUtils.clickView() and Robotium (third party's utility for this task). But buttons don't get pressed. With Robotium, whose sources are simpler to understand, I can track my code until it properly generates ACTION_DOWN and ACTION_UP events. At the same time, I've tried a Robotium sample together with a small sample application, and it works perfectly. So, Robotium works and my Android SDK is ok.it must be something specific of my application. What should I check?

Sometimes I have a button in my UI that it is so small that it is difficult to click. My solution so far has been to add a transparent border around the button in photoshop. Just increasing the padding on the button does not work, since this will also stretch the image. Since it is kind of a fuss to open photoshop each time I want to change the clickable surface, is there any way to do this programmatically? I have tried placing a framelayout behind the button and make it clickable, but then the button wont change appearance on touch as it should. Ofcourse I could also add a ontouchlistener on the framelayout which changes the buttons appearance, but then it quite some code if I have several of those buttons.

I have a similar query to the one posted here. I create a grid consisting of a variable number of buttons, at runtime (in a TableLayout), and would like to find the index of the button pressed. The actual Button objects are currently stored in an array, although I'm not sure if that is really necessary. I tried to write the ClickListener using something along the lines of code...
but this just always returns -1. Is it possible to get the id (or some other reference to the button pressed) without predefining the buttons in xml?
The solution in the other post describes cycling through the whole array of Buttons and comparing ids. Is there a more elegant way to do this?

New to Android development. I'm wondering if its possible to programmatically draw an icon to put in the notification bar? What if we want the icon to display some dynamic text for something like battery level? If anyone has a code sample it would be nice.

I'm looking for a way to access the settings for the browser and mms apps programmatically. I know that there are APIs for browser content providers to add bookmarks and add search strings to the db. But is there a way to access any of the options such as text size, default zoom, etc. I've looked at the source but can't seem to find a way, as the preferences file is private and there being no content providers for these settings.

I've prepared custom component based on LinearLayout. Whole component is defined in XML. Currently to use it you have to write:
<com.xxx.android.components.TopMenu
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="44dp" />
Is it possible to set width and height in the java constructor? So it would be possible to write just:
<com.xxx.android.components.TopMenu />
I've tried to modify and set LayoutParams, but it didn't work for me.

I can't seem to find anywhere a way to programmatically change the the alignment of the button.
In the XML it is simply layout_gravity="Center" or something.
How do we do this in the code?
LayoutParams do not seem to cater for this.

If you use an AbsoluteLayout (I know that it is deprecated, but it was the only way to solve my problem ) you can give the childViews the tag "android:layout_x" and "android:layout_y" to set their absolute position within the AbsoluteLayout.
However I dont want to set these informationen in the xml, because I only know them at runtime. So how can I set these parameters at runtime programmatically? I dont see any method on the View like view.setLayoutX(int x) or something.
Here is my XML, which works fine, when I set the layout_x and layout_y values. code...

I would like to know the way to make a user interface for Android for people that have low vision. The idea is to make a UI with the following features: 1- Uses very very big buttons. 2 -Uses very big font size. 3- Te colors to use are basically black and white (for more contrast). 4- The icons in this UI are not relevant. 5- We must sacrifice the number of chars that we can show in the screen to get bigger labels and buttons. 6- A simple zoom system for the images should be a great idea. 7- We can use the camera of the phone to get a magnifying glass. I'm member of a blind people association in Spain and we think that this should be a great idea for begining a new low-vision-user- interface that is not aviable in the market for the new mobile phones. This will help many people that uses movile phones but have many difficulties to work with them.

How could I be able to change text color in buttons? From the image, I tried changing the boxed text from '<item name="textColor">@color/primary_text_holo_light</item>', and creating my own drawable xml file to link it with that. Color change seems successful, but it also affects other holo white buttons as well (see image). I don't want it to happen, for it renders those buttons unreadable.
